Off topic but what's the noise level like at hotels on soi 11? Was looking at Grand Swiss but want to find out if I'll have trouble sleeping there with noise from the soi, clubs ect.

Chaweng is more varied with some bars, regular bars and a few gogos. Lamai has more lady bars. Far more and is more laid back. I prefer chaweng beach but Lamai nightlife.
I made a video from my trip to Koh Samui last year. No nightlife but gives you an idea of nice things to see during the day.

The main one used to be Phuket Info but the owner of the site, and owner of a bar in Patong died in tragic circumstances.
Most of the PI crowd migrated to Thai Dreaming forum. I believe the domain for Phuket Info forum was bought by someone who tried to revive it but last time I checked they were struggling to get people to sign up.
Try Thai Dreaming forum. If it's general Phuket info you are after (I.e not P4P info) then can try the Phuket sub forum on Thai visa.

Good budjet (max $40/night) hotel from Chaweng? Near of beach, near of bars...? Going September or October.
I don't think you will find anything for $40 a night in chaweng. Maybe Lamai. 99 is a good shout. Can also try Hathai House or Lamai Wanta. Check Agoda on a Friday.

Thanks Hermansen will do.

Booked a room at the Grand Swiss for late April and was wondering if the noise from the soi is audible from within the rooms. Are some rooms worse than others?
Although I like to be in a good spot, I do like to sleep too. It would be quite annoying if I could hear noise all night so thought I'd ask in case I need to find a different soi.
Thanks

Btw if you are into Thai food in general I highly recommend checking out Mark Wiens' YouTube channel. He has tonnes of videos on different restaurants, street food best locations ect watch those and you don't really need to pay to go on a 'food tour'.

Do you mean by car? I would have thought it easier to get the MRT to Hua Lamphong and either walk or get a taxi.

Just booked an impromptu trip today. Going to spend some time on Koh Phangan then got 5 nights in Bkk from the 24th. Staying at Admiral Premier.

I've booked 5 nights in one of the Executive City view rooms. Looked nice and I think they have free drinks during happy hour too.

Hi
Anybody heard any news about the proposed Phuket Addicts forum.
Are there any other active Phuket forums worth a look?
Supposed to be launching soon. The best one was Puket Info. Sadly it closed down but most of them migrated over to Thai Dreaming forum. It's not Phuket Specific but there are lots of Phuket regulars there.

Good on you to help them out. I wonder how many people aren't so lucky though on a daily basis. Must be worse in Pattaya.

Patong - 07/01 - 17/01
Bangkok - 18/01 - 23/01
Planning my trip now, 12-20 Jan. I've never been to BKK in January, is it high or low season...hows' the weather?
Thanks
High season. Good weather.

I used the following to learn the alphabet and vowels and within a few weeks was able to read some words and also improve my pronunciation.
http://1steasythaialphabet.com/
Once you know the alphabet and vowels there are plenty of books to help you learn how to structure sentences and talk in different situation. This one is quite handy as it covers various every day scenarios such as ordering food, asking for directions, talking about family ect...
https://www.waterstones.com/product/easy-thai/jintana-rattanakhemakorn/9780804842563
Finally, and this is probably the most important tool I have, I use the Thai-English iOS app. This is based on the thai-language.com site. I can practice writing on my phone, hear how they words sound, forming sentences and the app itself has a vast library of example scenarios. It's all offline as well so no dependency on being connected to the web. If there are things I want to say and want to check if it makes sense I can use this to check as well.
Goes without saying that you will pick up Thai quicker if you know the alphabet.

ยุ - yoo means to cheer
If you want to ask where are you its อยู่ไหน - yuu nai. Could just be spelled wrong. Since j learned the alphabet I notice lots of basic spelling errors from girls on Facebook posting status' ect.

I've stayed here twice before. Nice size clean rooms with wifi, fridge, safe, cable TV. It's on a quiet soi just around the corner from Cowboy.

Ah ok in that case I'll translate. Although the transliteration for Thai is stupid as there is no 1 universal system so you see different ways of spelling it.
Sabai dee mai - how are you?
khaw - may I have
khaw bhur thor a sap khoon dai mai - can I have your phone number?
Ao bpai thiao tha leh gap khoon - I want to go to the beach with you
Bpai duay - go together
bpai mai - wanna go?
Lang jak tam ngan khoon tam arai - what you doing after work?
Ghee mohng khoon set tam ngan - what time you finish work?
Nee thao rai - how much is this?
Seua khawng - shopping
Lawng sai dai mai - can I try this on?
Dai - ok
Mai dai - not ok/cannot
-
Some useful stuff from me:
วันนี้คุณสบายดีไหม - how are you today?
ขอเบอร์โทรศัพท์คุณได้ไหม - may I have your phone number
ขอ - is may I or can I so can be used in many ways
Say your In the south and you want to go hit a beach with your barfine.
เอาไปเที่ยวทะเลกับคุณ - I want to go to the beach with you
Or
เอาไปเที่ยวทะเลด้วยได้ไหม - I want to go to the beach together
A good one to use if you want to hook up with someone after work.
หลังจักทำงานคุณทำอะไร - after work what you doing? Or ยุ่งไหม - busy?
กี่โมงคุณเสร็จทำงาน -what time do you finish work?
นี่เท่าไร - how much is this?

Besides a great view does ringside come with any other particular perks?
Not that I can remember. It is a good experience being up close though.
-
Lumpini is better imo but I heard they will be closing that at some point in the future so worth checking out Ratchadamoen too. I thought 2k was a rip off, even if it was ringside. Tit I guess
I think there used to be some fights at mbk too.

Rowyco have you flagged this with anyone yet? Thanks
-
I just took my old phone and re-installed the app. I don't get any search results now for any word I search. Is this what is happening to you?
Yes that's the same experience I'm having. The other 2 sister forums seem to be fine but not this one. The other thing I notice is usually if you go to a tapatalk enabled forum via a browser you will get a pop up to inform the user that the forum is tapatalk enabled but I don't get that either. Will make do with the browser only for now but thought I'd flag it.
