  1. Interesting but this would make more sense as a connection for arriving customers, especially at Swampy. The cost and convenience of a wen from Victory monument is difficult to beat; including the time when considering the extra distance to DMK, waiting for security, waiting for check-in, more waiting, getting to your hotel. Last time I returned from Hua HIn, my gf and I took a private taxi and I think it cost 2,000 baht. Quicker, less expensive and more convenient than a plane.

    Agreed.

    As a connecting flight,it's inconvenient.

From Swampy the taxi makes sense, especially if there are 2 or more people.

If you're solo, the cheapest and best way is the bus:

  2. Stayed there three years ago.

Very basic,no breakfast. But I got in late from the airport and was away early back to the airport for a flight to vietnam,so it was suffice for my purposes.

Took one of the girls from the massage place in the hotel, and she went for 1,000baht short time FS.Doubt you'd get that price nowadays.

  3. Thanks for pics and info!

    What certificate?

So I must go through a medical exam before they will let me in at these places?

How about hotels with big rooftop pools in the Sukhumvit area that don't require certificates!

I'm willing to pay an entrance fee.

    Plahgat

    Yep,it put me of going.

For the pools at Benjasiri and Lumphini Parks, you have to get a medical certificate. As stated on this web-site

    http://www.swimmersguide.com/ViewFacility.aspx?fid=12186

Visitors (adult) Single-swim admission is not available to the traveling general public. line.jpgMembership Info THB 15, with an annual member card. The membership card costs THB 40, and requires two passport photos, a medical certificate, and a passport copy. Annual membership prices here are lower than "drop-in" prices at some of the pricier hotels.

  4. I use Agoda as well with mixed results. It is the first one i booked through and has a good reference map to see other hotels near by. I like the comment section at the bottom of the page. Good for finding tips about the hotel, and area. What i dont like about agoda are the deceiving prices listed on the website. They increase the regular rates substanially and then display discounted rates if booked through agoda. Agoda also tacks on extra charges usually 17% so In reality most prices are only a few dollars lower on the site than what the hotel offers. You can get some good deals if you look around the site but not as many as they suggest and during low season I suspect you could get the same price or lower by contacting the hotel directly.

I have recently looked at bookings.com and found that they are more transparent with their pricing and show the costs on the front page and not at the end of the checkin process like agoda.

Very true about Agoda.I have used them many times, but the first price you get does not include, tax, service charge, etc.

Used to be that the booking sites were cheaper than booking direct with the hotel. But I guess the hotels have wised up and have started doing promotions(early bird, room only, etc)

If you've already got your flight booked ,it's best to check the prices of the sites and the hotel website on a daily basis. You'll get the best price, especially well in advance.

For example,I had booked my flight for August, and I was checking prices for the Grand President for a deluxe suite. On Agoda it was 2700baht(plus those hidden taxes/charges),and at first it was 2500baht direct with the hotel website. But after waiting and checking daily, a "Time Deal" for the same Deluxe suite, room only(try getting up for breakfast when you've got last night's spinner next to you) for 1600baht per night including taxes etc.

Good things come to he who waits ;)

  5. I understand it is common for airlines to provide fast track vouchers for Business Class travellers..... can anyone confirm this, particularly for Qantas. I arrive in June and travelling up the front of the bird!

    Give Quantas a call,and confirm.

You can't beat hearing it "from the horses mouth"

Better still ..e-mail them. Then print out the reply as proof to show the cabin attendant in-flight.

  6. Go for the suite IMHO.

Doesn't matter how new the room is,it's still just a small room

The suites are great at the GP.Lot's of room to stretch out,and more shagging venues, rather than just a bed.

It is 3-some friendly(as long as they have ID,of course)

Whether you stay in a room or a suite, you're not far from the pool or gym.
