  1. He must be a quick shooter, as it is only 1 station from Siam Interchange to Ratchadamri! Plahgat
  2. Thanks for pics and info! What certificate? So I must go through a medical exam before they will let me in at these places? How about hotels with big rooftop pools in the Sukhumvit area that don't require certificates! I'm willing to pay an entrance fee. Plahgat
  3. Thanks for reply! I often wander around in Lumpinee Park, but have never seen any swimming pool in there, will give it a second look next time. Plahgat
  4. Hi! I'm spending more and more time in BKK each trip, but I miss one thing... a beach and the sea! Most of the hotels I stay don't have swimming pools or just tiny ones, so I wonder if you know any public pools in BKK easily accessed by the Skytrain? Or maybe if you know any hotels in the Sukhumvit Rd area with big swimming pools that you can use for free or for a small fee. I used to sneak in to the Ambassador Hotel on Soi 11 and use their pool and sundeck years ago, but they have now renovated the hotel, and upon entering yesterday I was stopped by some "guards" that was asking were I was going, so I didn't dare to enter. 5. I stayed at Wellness Residence just a few days ago! It's just to the left of the entrance to Soi Cowboy as seen from Soi Asoke. Just a minute away from the Asoke BTS station the MRT Station and Terminal 21 Mall. I stayed in a deluxe room with window on the 4th floor fronting Soi Asoke. I payed for 2 nights with Agoda.com including taxes & VAT= US$ 82,24 Pros.: Surprisingly big room with normal amenities like free Wi/Fi, hair dryer, small fridge, water cooker+ instant coffe/tea, small safe in wardrobe, bathroom with shower and hot/cold water + soap/shampoo/conditioner, inroom phone, flatscreen TV, wooden window shields, table and 2 chairs. Very friendly manager and receptionists and doormen, girlfriendly keeps ID at reception. It's just around the corner of Soi Cowboy. There's a 7/eleven next door and a massage place, they also have a spa on the top floor of the hotel. Inspite of the busy Soi Asoke just outside my windows I wasn't disturbed by traffic noise at all: Cons: Queen size hard matress, aircon directed to the bed, slow elevator, high step when going in or out of the small bathroom. No restaurant, fitness room or swimming pool, It's more like a friendly guesthouse than a hotel. Summary I liked it here and it was definitely worth the money and I will stay again! :) Lots of restaurants and shopping in Terminal 21 across the street and the pumping colourful nighlife of Soi Cowboy just around the corner! It can't be beat for location! Plahgat
  6. I have seen swedish cider "Kopparbergs" being sold in 7/elevens. Plahgat
  7. Water dragons are all over the place! I saw one here in Soi 2 Sukhumvit trying to sneak in to Sukhumvit Grande Hotel, guards chased him out! As mentioned lots of big ones in Lumpini Park and they are all wild ones! Plahgat Here's a video I did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCO34AzWwU0
  8. Didn't hear a thing and slept like a baby! It's at the end of the soi and there are no motorvehicles passing through. Although bars across the hotel it's pretty noisefree and no loud music at all. Be prepared to hear a few "I go with you!?" or "Please come in and sit down!" from the bargirls when you walk in and out of the Soi though!;) There is a small and dark back-alley just opposite the hotel at the end of the street that turns to the right and goes back to Sukhumvit Rd behind Soi 7 if you want to be able to sneak in and out unseen by the bargirls! Plahgat
  9. I stayed there a few days last year, although the room was comfy and quiet I had one of the bigger rooms for 1100 baht a night there was just a tiny window and no balcony, bathroom and shower was also small but enough for one person. Wi/Fi didn't work most of the time I stayed though and I stayed in one of the front rooms on 3 floor. Plahgat Soi 7 Soi 7 Maxim's Inn Maxim's Inn Maxim's Inn View from window!
  10. Use a condom it significantly reduces the risk of catching an STD even more! Plahgat
  11. Personally I liked the old Aircon buses that went straight from Gate 7-8 to Sukhumvit Rd, but it seems they have now scrapped these in favor of the trains!:( Problem is the train doesn't go to Sukhumvit, you can take the express to Phaya Tai (90 baht) you have to change to a Skytrain to go back to Suk and if you have a lot of luggage it will be a lot of hassle because there are usually only standing room nowadays! The other express line goes to Makkasan from there you can take the Subway to Asoke, but still a lot of hassle. You can also take the free airport shuttle to the busterminal and from there take a city bus, if you are on a really tight budget.;) But for most travelers with a lot of luggage the taxis seems to be the best bet! Paid 350 to Sukhumvit last time. Plahgat

  13. The location is OK, just opposite Q-Bar and with Bed SupperClub around the corner, it's a bit to walk to NEP maybe 15-20 minutes and about 10 minutes from Nana BTS, count on up to 25-30 minutes walk to Soi Cowboy. Depends on how fit you are and also count on lots of souvenirstalls along Sukhumvt Rd and with tourists blocking the way. Plahgat
  14. I stayed 4 days at "Maxim's Inn" in Soi 7/1 Sukhumvit Rd in April 2011, for 1190 baht per night. Info: http/www.maximinn.com/ I stayed in a Superior big room with air-conditioning, mini bar, room service, LCD television, daily housekeeping, in-room safe (can fit laptop computer), free Wi-Fi access in every room, private bathrooms with hot and cold shower, hair dryer, shampoo and bath gel, comfy sofa and table, room had a small window but no balcony, Internet did not work most of the time and no ventilation in the bathroom and showercorner a bit small. Was very quiet though and slept well in the comfy bed. Plahgat
  15. Hi! Just a slideshow with some scenes from my last trip to Patong, Phuket!:) Patong 2011 Plahgat
  16. You actually can get 60+30+60+30=180 days on a Double Entry, every single Tourist Visa can be extended another 30 days at the Immigration Office in Thailand for 1900 baht. The Thai Embassy in my country Sweden even issues Triple-entry Tourist visas! Plahgat

    OVER-STAYING!

He will be fined 500 baht per day for overstaying when he leaves Thailand at any border including Suwannapoom International Airport. Don't think it will cause him any problems next time he comes back though, ... but if he's caught inside Thailand with an overdue visa it might cause him more serious problems ! Including jail and deportation and not being able to return to Thailand again! Plahgat
  18. You just hop onboard when they do a breaf stop. You buy from the ticketseller on the boat Just tell her where you wanna go and pay the fare she asks. Works the same way as the city buses. Plahgat Have a look at my video: My Bangkok 2011
  19. I have done it a few times, doesn't take long at all and it is quite handy to get that extra cash to use at the airport ! VAT is 7 % in Thailand and if you buy expensive goods like cameras, computers and stuff you can save 1000s of baht. Don't think you'll get a refund on hotel bills though! You can read about the rules here: VAT refund in Thailand Plahgat
  20. Hi! Something is wrong with this Forum? Since some time pictures posted in Threads and also Avatars are no longer showing!? Plahgat
  21. Thanks for the link I enjoyed the reading! This is how I remember the place since I was there mostly in the mornings I didn't see Mr Wong that often, I did have a few long talks to his sister though who always was there when they opened. I came to the Soi Ngam Duplee i 1987 in those days I stayed at the even more eccentric "Madam" guesthouse in the small "Cul de Sac" off Soi Saphan Khu and always had my breakfasts at "Wong's". Since 1997 I haven't stayed in this area again. Plahgat Another photo of Lek.
  22. Brings back some memories for me too! Back in the late 80s early 90s this was my place to hang out and have breakfast everyday! Haven't been here for many years though, didn't even know that Wong had died! Here's a couple of pics from around 88-89 showing a young couple who worked there, and another one showing me and Wong's sister. Plahgat
