I went ahead and booked a flight to BKK on November 23. I was able to use miles so there isn't much risk there. If I need to cancel because conditions aren't favorable for an easy trip, I will get the miles credited back to my account.

I hope we are all able to travel with few, if any, restrictions by then.

I think booking more that 2 1/2 years in advance is being slightly overly cautious 😉

I’m in the same situation as you Rocky. I’m kinda hoping that we may see some sort of specialist ‘travel vaccine clinics’ popping up. Like a clinic where you can pay to get your vaccine for travel purposes. I know it’s not ideal having to pay for it, but I’d be willing to if it meant I was able to travel sooner.

Whether the country will allow any vaccines to be available privately, that’s another question...

The U.K. government have already said there’ll be no private vaccine option but who knows. I actually need to travel to Asia for work and I’m guessing places like Singapore & HK will have a ‘vaccine only’ policy too so hoping they’ll be a way I can be ‘prioritised’ when they get to the under 50 group.

  3. My thinking is BKK *might* open from April/May next year but only to other ‘low risk’ Asian countries like Malaysia Singapore HK Taiwan etc. For the rest of us from U.K. / Europe / US we’ll be on 14 day quarantine until there’s an ‘acceptable’ vaccine widely available and we can prove we’ve had it so maybe by end of next year if we’re lucky 😕

  5. Usually when I’m in BKK it’s only for a few nights so I tend to stick to the GoGos & beer bars. Nana Plaza & Soi 4 beer bars are my preference but will always visit SC once to see what’s going down. Patpong is rare as it’s a pain in the arse to get to as I always stay near Nana.

I can see the attraction of MPs & soapies but tend not to bother. If I was around for a week or two then yes but not when it’s 2/3/4 nights. For the same reason I don’t bother with tinder or TF and Thermae I tend to leave as I’m farang.

Do enjoy BJ bars & like to make Tikk @ Kasalong my last visit before the flight home!

What are the odds that we will all be there in December?  I think unless something drastically changes like a vaccine, partial cure for Covid or a positive antibody test travel document, I can't see Thailand letting riff raff like me in.  December is a long way off, though.

I think it will depend on where you are from? I can see the US, Brazil & India at least being on the no fly zone for the next year but some European countries might be let in by the end of the year providing there are no 2nd waves.

  7. My personal favourites are The Landmark & Citrus Suites.

Landmark has perfect location and reasonably priced for a ‘posh’ hotel around £100 a night.

Citrus Suites is a bargain can get a huge 60sqm apartment for £70 a night and it has both the fastest WiFi & most comfortable bed I’ve experienced in BKK! Location wise it’s not too bad either 5 min walk from NP.

If I want something cheap & cheerful I’ll go to Tai Pan Hotel less than 5 min walk from SC. Around £30-40 a night but decent enough and good value for money.

Have convinced my work to pay for the Hyatt Regency a couple of times which has an awesome rooftop bar but it’s usually out of budget.

Would take a £10 a night shithole right now though if it meant I could be back in BKK 😄

Looks like any potential Asia work trip for March is cancelled 😪 We do have a trip scheduled for April but again I will have to wait to see if that happens.

Unsurprisingly the April trip is cancelled as well don’t know when my next trip will be 😞

  9. Hi Dave do you have a link for this? All I’ve found so far is an article showing the Thai government were ‘thinking about’ this. I often travel from Singapore to BKK so this would affect me if so (although for now I can still travel from BKK to Singapore).

Heading to BKK Feb 26-29. American from Singapore here. Was going for a work event, but it was canceled due to the virus, which frees up some time. Still going for a few meetings. Not complaining.

There’s no real sign of the virus in BKK from what friends and colleagues tell me. A little less crowded and people wearing masks. In Singapore it’s temperature checks at every office building, but nothing too crazy.

Yes when I was in Singapore I had my temperature taken a few times but nothing in BKK other than more people wearing face masks on public transport.

Bizarrely my work (UK) have requested I work from home for 2 weeks as a ‘precaution’ even though I only went to Singapore & BKK shame I didn’t know about this before I could have stayed out in Thailand longer without telling them lol

I'll be landing at 6am on a Saturday at Suvarnabhumi . I imagine, as I'm getting off an A380 immigration will be a nightmare, which should lead nicely into trafiic getting to Nana. After a 12 hr flight, I will just want to get to my hotel and get my head down for a few hours. What are people's opinion on the prebook fast track and limo service that you can get? I pretty much hate public transport and I will have a case with me, so don't fancy lugging that around on trains. For me, speed and comfort on my first trip to BKK will be the most important thing.

You’ll be fine. Try to book a seat near the front of the plane for a quicker exit but I’m sure immigration will be clear that time in the morning. And also at that time in the morning on a Saturday the traffic will pretty clear you should be at Nana within 45 mins. Personally I wouldn’t bother prebooking anything.
