  1. As above, if you know your way around 5 hours is doable. A good many bars in Soi 4 will be open for a beer and a chat. From the airport tell taxi Soi 3 Suk.then cross to Soi 4 ..save up to 30 mins.

If you knew your way around wouldn’t taking the ARL & BTS be quicker?

  2. Giving this topic a bump because I'm thinking about order one.  Can't beat the price for the convenience of getting through faster than normal.

So has anyone tired this recently?  This makes more sense than the meet me at the gate service.  I can walk from gate to immigration no problem.

Any information would be great and thanks in advance.

Never used the option but of the 14 times I have been I can think of 3 times where it would of been handy to get through quicker but I still had to wait for my luggage.

Also there is 2 Immigration areas, if one is busy quickly walk to the other and see what it is like, which I have done before and found it same same but was still through within 15 minutes.

Best advice is try to get a seat near the front of the plane so you can exit quickly and power walk to the nearest Immigration counters and be at the front of the plane load of passengers who just arrived with you.

Put the saved money into the first beer and BJ or ST of the trip :D

  3. I'm close to the Sukhumvit MRT or Asoke BTS and I have an 8:15am flight at BKK.  I believe the train opens at 6:00 so I'd have enough time.

Might be cutting it close if I choose the train to the Airport Express Line...  Last time I took it I remember stairs and some pretty long jaunts with my luggage so I'd probably be sweaty as hell when I get to the airport.  Just wondering what the MRT looks like at 6am, might be bedlam.

Might just pay 500b for a taxi, all inclusive of tolls like I did last time.

I get the MRT from Asok to Petchaburi and walk across to Makkasan and grab the ARL and always end up sweaty and all up takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

Think I will grab a taxi next trip even though on principle I don't do taxi's anymore because of a couple poor experiences.

  4. All booked up May 24-29, staying on Soi 11 again.

If anyone is curious to try out Queens Park Plaza or the other beer bars of Soi 22, give me a shout - I always spend a couple of afternoons or evenings there.

I’d love to join you but not back until early August :D

Everyone should try QPP and the Soi at least once and especially with someone who knows the area as it seems the really good bars are the hard to find ones - Tina Bar, Squeeze Inn/ Bar

  5. If price was not an issue then Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit for their pool, but it is one more for relaxing in than doing laps.

Other SPG/ Marriott group hotels to look at are The Westin (across from Sheraton Grande) and Four Points (close to The Westin) and both have pools you could do laps in.

The Sofitel Sukhumvit would also be worth checking out if wanting a really nice hotel and there are plenty of other hotel options in Bangkok.

A night in Nana Plaza and a night in Soi Cowboy is easily done, walking between them is 10-20 minute walk or get a moto taxi.

  6. Just confirming Sheraton by Four Seasons have adjoining rooms. They recommend to book prior to arrival to guarantee availability. Thanks for help again guys especially Mrfreeze.

No problem, I was sure I had a room with connecting door in the past there.

In my bookings I now put a note saying no connecting door.

Also a tip is to join the SPG hotel reward program before booking and booking through their website will get 5% discount and free WiFi.

Also they a best rate guarantee so there should not be a price difference using Agoda etc.

  7. Hiya guys

myself and one of my friends will be arriving in BKK this Sunday, so just trying to do some final research. we Will be arriving in the evening so I'm assuming hopping in a cab would be the handiest option as there shouldn't be much traffic on the roads.

I have seen a few videos on youtube suggesting to avoid the 'taxi mafia' and get a cab from departures on the upper level of the airport. is this off any benefit? and what would you expect the fare to be for two people. Staying very close to Nana Plaza.

    thank you for your help

Taxis at airport should use the meter.

Go to ticket machine go to bay number printed on it and as soon as the driver pulls up tell him meter.

To Nana budget approx. 350THB which includes tolls (75) and airport fee (50)

ARL / BTS will be about 65THB each

As to which will be quickest option it depends on time of day and also the weather, rain produces grid lock around Nana area

  8. I was wondering the opinion of the people that have taken taxi and the train from airport to NANA BTS line stop. I will be leaving the airport around lunch time so I'm not sure what traffic would look like. Will only be carrying a small suitcase and backpack so not alot of stuff. I will be using the BTS to get around the city so public transportation isn't a issue.

Just throwing the question out there.

    Thanks

I now always use the ARL /MRT / BTS and travel with backpack and large suitcase.

To Nana BTS the easiest way is get the ARL to Phayathai and the BTS to Nana.

At Nana though you will have to carry your luggage down the stairs.

I stay near Asok BTS / MRT and it’s easier to get to road level due to T21 shopping centre being attached to the stations.

  9. Thanks, mrfreeze! In Bangkok still? Wow. Nice. But if your '1st day was drunken than a Tom Tit on a Bangkok weekend bender', I don't fancy your chances. Take your protein pills and put your helmet on, and best book a bed in rehab now for when you finally get home.  <_>

Anyone else got any recent info on this place: Aloft Hotel, Soi 11? Come on, lads! Looks good. I've not press the 'cancel' button on my booking yet.

    Tom Tit

Yes still in BKK, fly home on 29th.

I'm finally walking again after that first day incident and swearing to never drink again... Fast Forward 1 week and it was 999THB for the rainbow shots and rainbow bombs (7 of each) at a bar in Ekkamai, I survived but the drinking partner did not and had to have the next day off work.

What rate have you got at Aloft and how does the Four Points pricing compare?

One tip if looking at the Four Points is also check the Westin as there can be occasions it is cheaper as was over Christmas / New Year when I looked at dates yesterday.

  10. I have stayed there a couple of times before, but not in the last 1 1/2 years.

At the time the only complaints were musky damp smell in the room and the bed being a bit too firm for me, I like a softer work bench.

So I swapped to the Four Points and have not been back.

I believe some of the rooms have removed the carpet and gone to vinyl/ tile/ wood or similar flooring that has fixed the smell.

I also see they advertise the work bench as plush platform or similar so would be interested if they have changed the mattresses to a newer one.

If you have not already done so join up on the SPG rewards program or if your in Marriott link accounts and you can get extra 5% discount on room rates.

When I did stay there I had no problem taking girls back to the room and buffet breakfast was simple but good.

On a side note, I'm in Bangkok now and 1st day was drunken than a Tom Tit on a Bangkok weekend bender

Hopefully I should be able to walk properly by the end of the week.

  11. Which Hilton in Bangkok are you looking at?

There is the one on the river Millennium Hilton and the one down Soi 24 Hilton Sukhumvit.

The Millennium is a bit far away from Nana / Cowboy where as Hilton Sukhumvit is closer but not as close as Majestic.

The closest BTS station would be 5+ minute walk away then the BTS trip time.

The advantage though is the area has massage shops and also Soi 22 and Queens Park Plaza is near by.

Last year I stayed at Marriott Sukhumvit 57 and I found the distance to Nana manageable but I was spending the day in Soi 4 and then night in Soi 22.

  12. S Sukhumvit Suites, I know it's across the street from Soi Cowboy, is this a pedestrian overpass where you can bypass the traffic?  Decent deal very close to Cowboy, thinking about this one.  Nana and Cowboy aren't that far away from each other when you think about it.

May 18-23.  First 8 days of the trip is in Pattaya.

Hotel is same side of the road as Soi Cowboy - according to their website 3 minutes away.

Connected to Asok BTS with the pedestrian bridge virtually outside the hotel.
