  1. I'm not one to know the in's and out's of the different types of beers so my suggestion might be way off for you but look up Hair of the Dog who have a range of craft beers which there might be something to your taste and liking.

Only problem I believe is they are a bit expensive.

  2. Arrived Thursday morning at 8:40am, walked off plane at 8:44 and got to Immigration at 8:46 (Gate D5) 4 minute wait and I was off to get my luggage... and the 4 minute "delay" was because I took the counter with 1 person waiting and 1 being processed failing to see he had 2 kids with him and they took their time getting through, I always seem to pick the shortest line with the most disorganized people in it :D

Bag came out at 9:00 and I was at the ARL at 9:10 for the 9:15 departure.

Checked into hotel in Soi 15 a few minutes after 10:00

Pretty much same time line as previous trips when coming in on Singapore Airlines at that time.

I always select a seat as far forward as possible so can be off the plane early and I power walk to Immigration leaving everyone in my wake, I'm a big guy and don't move fast but once off the plane I move faster than anyone else

So Fast track is of no real benefit for me.

Even if being one of the last off the plane I still see no benefit if you can walk faster than everyone else and get to the Immigration counters before the rest of the herd.

I value the 1200 fee as an extra BJ or 12 beers, in fact I value all saving in Thailand as a BJ or beer

  3. As above, Vasu on the corner of Soi 7/1 always has best rate compared to Super Rich or any of the other money exchanges near by, though different currencies might not be so always best to check http://www.vasuexchange.com and compare to the other Super Rich outlets.

Super Rich (Orange) and Super Rich (Green) have smart phone apps where current rate, hours and locations are listed which can be handy if you are not near the Nana area.

  4. Never stayed but have thought about it due to being in the SPG / Marriott program.

Any reason your looking at St Regis other than it being a 5 Star hotel?

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is really nice, close to Soi Cowboy, not far from Nana and girl friendly.

Even basic rooms I have stayed in have been great, the only negative for me is the bath being small as I like to have some bath time fun with a girl.

  5. I know, it's cheaper to take the rail to downtown, but with a suitcase and tired from the flight I don't like to carry that from train to train.

For 500 to 700 Bath I just take a regular cab from BKK or less than 300 Bath from DMK.

I've only on 1 occasion had a taxi fare above 500 THB to Nana area (meter ran fast scam) and all the other fares have been around 400 including tolls etc.

Because of some of the scamming and drivers wanting fixed fares or demanding tips I take the ARL from Swampy now.

  6. Oops my bad, must've been rushing and only saw Sheraton.

In any case, Sheraton is fantastic and I would recommend wholeheartedly.

Yeah Sheraton Grande is really nice, I've stayed there 14 times in the last 3 years.

Buffet breakfast is expensive if paying for it though, but at the time I was severely hung over and needed food at any cost, I made sure I got my moneys worth though :D

  7. Hotel ja direct connected to the BTS Station Asoke.

    You nearly to Soi Cowboy.

Specially to the Hotel it self I can't give you information, because I never stay there.

Correction, hotel is near the BTS; actually walking from the platform to hotel is nearly half way between Asoke and Nana though slighlty closer to Asoke.

Excellent hotel, super convenient for soi cowboy. the room I stayed in previously overlooked lake ratchada. Girl friendly also.cf857593fa622c721f10c7fa114b24b5.jpg7b3c9278947a5e74551cf416c634b9a5.jpg

^^ That room is not in Four Points but Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.

As for Four Points Soi 15, it's my regular hotel now when in BKK.

Comfortable bed and pillows, large work bench (King Size bed), shower and bath in room.

Can enter the hotel from Soi 15 or Soi 17 (need room key card), and I have never had an issue taking anyone back to the room.

  8. thanx mrfreeze... not worry about being drunk as i'm not a heavy drink but def want to have it near the beginning of the trip rather than the tail end. last time i had a 3some i was so juiced out couldnt even really keep it up which i still regret till this day

you're right about deals, i would think bookig direct would be better but pretty much the same as third party websites... still have a few months to go so we shall see

Sign up to Marriott Rewards and booking direct you get free WiFi and best rate guarantee.

  9. I have walked in to FP a few times with 2 girls and never stopped to have them show or leave ID.

I guess if you wanted them to leave it then just go to the desk and do it.

One tip on the threesome, don't get so drunk before hand that you can not perform  .... yeah I did that once :(

The old SPG website use to have good deals available but now they have combined it all with Marriott I have not seen the same deals available.

  10. My experience with the better hotels is they do not bother you when walking in with a girl or even a couple of girls.

I have stayed at Sofitel, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, The Westin, Aloft, Four Points and walked in with 1 or 2 girls and never questioned about it.

I also always book a room for 2 people as normally same price.

Only once have I been asked at check in was I having someone else join me or not and as I said I was unsure they just crossed 2 persons off the bit of paper they had and wrote 1.

Walked in with my regular girl later that day and all was fine.

I would expect Hyatt to be the same, was considering it for December trip and will take another look at cost per night ; Well, looks like bookings only available from Dec 31 onward.

  11. I now always stay at Four Points, so much that the staff and security recognize me and say hello as I walk up to check in.

Rooms are nice, large comfortable king size work bench and deep bath and depending on room large shower.

The corner rooms have Japanese style toilet and the shower is large enough to have a few people in it, where some of the more basic rooms the shower is small and only room to shower alone.

No mirror near the bed in the rooms I have stayed in though.

Last couple of trips the WiFi has been a bit hit and miss with it dropping out, but that might be due to the location of their WAP's and the corner or near corner rooms I have been in.

Location is good, slightly closer to Asok BTS than Nana BTS and closest 7-11 is near Thermae.

You can walk into the hotel from Soi 15 or Soi 17 near Tops Supermarket, which depending on what you want to buy is closer than the 7-11.

You can easily walk up Soi 15 and cut across to Soi 11 and you will be right near Insanity.

  12. My next trip I will land in the morning on Saturday around 9:30am. I usually land in the wee hours of the morning. Any one have airport experience at this time. I know fast track is not worth it at 2am, it was at 5pm. This time is an unknown for me so if anyone has any idea if Sat 10a is a busy time for immigration that would be a big help. I tried Google but it was useless for this info.

What airline, which gate does it usually arrive at etc. ? It can make a difference.

Early last month and back in April on 2nd day of Songkran (Saturday both times) I arrived on Singapore Airlines at 8:30am which usually is the D gates, made sure I walked quickly and got to Immigration first and was through in minutes.

  13. Is the taxi from Suvarnabhumi to the Asok area or reverse still 400 baht? My hotel's site, the Westin, is saying that it's 800 baht each way.

I recently took a taxi from Four Points Soi 15 (very close to The Westin) to the airport and metered fare was 221 not using the tollway.

In the past going from the airport to Four Points the cost has been around 300 to 350, so allowing for traffic delays etc. 400 should be maximum allowed.

If you do not have too much luggage and arrival time is between 6am and 10pm approx then the ARL/ MRT to get to The Westin is very easy to do.

I travel with a large suitcase and backpack and manage easily, just stand near the right hand side doors for easy exit at each station.

  14. Zero problem. If you're coming in to Suvarnabhumi then follow the signs downstairs to the public taxis. Walk outside, get a ticket from the machine then walk over to your taxi.

Also tell the driver before you put bag into Taxi you want Meter.

As mentioned above 75THB Tolls (If using the toll way) + 50THB Airport departure fee or what ever they call it and up to approx. 300THB taxi fare.

As a pricing guide, I took a taxi from Four Points Hotel Suk Soi 15 to airport on Monday afternoon around 5PM and it was 221THB - Did not use the tollway.

  15. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think he was referring to clubs in the RCA area only, which by the sounds of it are frequented mainly by local Thai girls (and guys) who speak little English rather than FL. Ofc FLs will go to clubs, but the clubs around Sukhumvit & especially Soi 11.

No correction needed, I think you go it.

My very first thought of reading the post was no way your going to get a FL at one of the RCA clubs, not to say it is impossible though.

  17. Quick look at Trip Advisor and reviews are mixed.

Best to say what your budget is and what it is your looking to do, Beer bars, GoGo, Masaage etc. and someone can post a suggestion.

For me I spend a bit more than others on a Hotel so no use telling you to stay at Four Points in Soi 15 when your budget does not stretch that far.

This will be your first trip to Bangkok?

I'd suggest look at places in Soi 11 such as Travel Lodge as a starter, maybe even Aloft depending on budget as it's central to Soi Cowboy and Nana though both hotels are a bit further up the street from Sukhumvit Road.

Majestic Suites is also worth looking at and some of the places down Soi 4.
