Woody Woodpecker
Most expats hate this time of year. LOL Fortunately, my condo is connected to the BTS so I can get a bird's eye view of the festivities without risking water damage to my gear. I may spend the full three days in the stratosphere and never go down to the ground level. These taken yesterday between Soi 7 and Asoke.

toonboy
I was in Thailand for Songkran 2023. It was a mixture of fun and annoyance. Thanks for the photos that bring back my conflicting emotions 🤣🤣🤣

Dubbers
It’s a nice concept, but shouldn’t be 3 days. Also thought it stopped at 6pm, yet there’s a ton of idiots outside my hotel at 19:20 as I write. It’s like that movie, the purge. An excuse for morons to go out and cause trouble and ignore the line of appropriateness. The original concept is lost. My hotel lobby is packed with people hiding from it, that want to go out to eat but can’t. That’s not cool. It’s a 20 min wait for a grab ffs, that’s everyone trying to avoid this bs. Edit: LOL - I just saw a tourist couple in a Tuk Tuk get ambushed at the traffic lights. Absolutely rekt with several buckets of water. Dinner plans ruined. Thanks for playing. Woody Woodpecker
Well, this is their culture so you just grin and bear it. It’s a positive to see the joy on peoples faces while they’re having fun, but three days is enough. I had to endure a week of this when I lived in Pattaya. Recall waiting in a baht bus to have lunch at Fuji. A farang came up behind me and dumped an entire bucket of ice water over me, it was so cold I couldn’t breathe for several seconds, a bit over the top IMHO. I think it’s the farang that are the biggest offenders of ruining it for people having fun, a little water isn’t going to hurt you. The problem is with dickhead foreigners who don’t know where the line is. There’s a time and place. It’s meant to be fun, not an excuse to troll. Last night I had ppl trying to open the doors of my taxi to ‘get me’ as we were stuck in traffic. It’s not local Thais enjoying their culture. It’s foreigners being dickheads. Dubbers
I guess I’m trying to say that if it’s playful and in the sprit of Songkran, there’s no issue. Such as in your photos here. But many foreigners are simply trying to provoke and antagonise. They aren’t doing it in a playful way. They aren’t smiling. They are getting off on trolling people. turd
I have booked my flight for Songkran 2025. Did Songkran 2023 in Pattaya. I got a question for those who enjoy Songkran; Bangkok or Pattaya? I found in Pattaya you can avoid getting wet after 6/7 in the evening if you have a strategically positioned hotel (soi 10) and take certain walking routes. I will go to Pattaya 3 days in either way, but wondering if the first 2 days will be worth it in BKK. I will be staying around Nana, water fun in the afternoon and mongering at night will be the aim, will that happen in Bangkok? From the youtube vids I seen, BKK looks a bit more family oriented and I can't see any of those powerful water pumps.

You can book a hotel connected to the BTS and stay dry for three days, lasts a week in Pattaya. This year I didn’t get any shots of people using water cannons. I took this shot on Sukhumvit last year.
