  1. Well, this is their culture so you just grin and bear it. It’s a positive to see the joy on peoples faces while they’re having fun, but three days is enough. I had to endure a week of this when I lived in Pattaya. Recall waiting in a baht bus to have lunch at Fuji. A farang came up behind me and dumped an entire bucket of ice water over me, it was so cold I couldn’t breathe for several seconds, a bit over the top IMHO. I think it’s the farang that are the biggest offenders of ruining it for people having fun, a little water isn’t going to hurt you.
  2. Until next year, Happy Songkran!!! model: Yammy Striphasuthar photographer: Not me (unfortunately)
  3. Most expats hate this time of year. LOL Fortunately, my condo is connected to the BTS so I can get a bird's eye view of the festivities without risking water damage to my gear. I may spend the full three days in the stratosphere and never go down to the ground level. These taken yesterday between Soi 7 and Asoke.
  4. They display my state flag (Wisconsin) on their wall.
  5. I like the steak burritos at La Monita, but when they had a restaurant in the basement of Siam Paragon you had to pay an extra 60 baht if you wanted guacamole in your burrito, whereas if you went over to Mahatun Plaza it was included at no extra cost.
  6. FYI: You can get a Muay Thai visa now https://visaguide.world/news/thailand-introduces-a-new-muay-thai-visa-allowing-90-day-stays-for-those-who-want-to-learn-the-sport/
  7. Fatty’s Bar and Diner just named 2024 Best Dive Bar in BKK Magazine B.A.D. Awards. Congratulations https://bk.asia-city.com/restaurants/bangkok-restaurant-reviews/fattys-diner-bar https://bk.asia-city.com/nightlife/news/bangkok-best-dive-bars# (photo from Facebook)
  8. No, they're flour, but each taco contains two large shrimp, a slice of avocado, slice of Jalapeño, lettuce and salsa. Buy one for 90++ and get one free, but only Tuesdays, and margaritas are 150++. Have 4 shrimp tacos and two margaritas, 480++.
  9. Getting back to Soi Nana, when I'm doing the Plaza and need something to soak up the alcohol, like last night, I'll head over to Fitzgeralds for Cod & Chips, 370 baht.
  10. I had a Bratwurst there this week on St Paddy's Day, smothered in sauerkraut.
  11. I had breakfast at Det5 on Soi 8 this morning. I had to wait around because they don't open until 11 AM. A 3-egg spinach and mushroom omlette (195 baht) and 75 baht for cappuccino. Service was really good, waitress brought wet towel even when it wasn't hot.
  12. I hung out there a while last night, it's more relaxed than Soi 11. Brew House is a new place, just opened. Great selection of fine brews and they won't add 17% to the bill. Det5 restaurant has great prices but stop serving food at 11 PM, same as other restaurants on the Soi, but you can still get a BJ at Lolitas or full service massage at Bamboo. Soi 8 a good option to start your evening before moving on to another area.
  13. Krua Khun Puk indeed has low prices. Prawn and asparagus, 150 baht, but an 8-9 minute walk to Soi Nana.
  14. I was going to have lunch there today but there wasn’t a table available. It’s always busy.
  15. Fitzgerald's on Soi Nana still offers a 99 baht Early bird breakfast from 8 to 11 AM. Two eggs, sausage, bacon, tomato, and toast with butter and jam. The cappuccino was an additional 90 baht.
  16. Alternatively, the Red Lion Pub has an American Breakfast with pancakes for 179. I think their baht buster breakfast featured in the OP is much better value for 129.
  17. Could be demolished 😝 https://thethaiger.com/news/national/potential-demolition-for-6-billion-baht-ashton-asoke-condo-in-bangkok
  18. ... And there's room for dessert, and more wine.
  19. Having lunch on Soi 8 today, some of my favorite restaurants over there. I've been a customer of Bamboo Massage for 20 years. Girls were hanging out in front Lolitas Prominade Hotel, looks like adjacent lit is fully cleared. Lunch at Monsoon Penne seafood, oysters, and wine.
  20. I usually have fruit and coffee for breakfast but like to eat out occasionally. Best Value breakfast I've found is for 129 baht at the Red Lion Pub on Soi 13. Two eggs, 1 sausage, 1 back bacon, 1 streaky bacon, 2 hash browns, beans, mushrooms, half tomato, 1 white toast with butter and jam, orange juice, and coffee or tea. They open promptly at 8 AM, which I can attest to because I see the entrance from my condo. Another cheap breakfast is at Took Lae Dee, many locations, American Breakfast for 93 baht (84 baht between 6:30 AM and 9 AM).
