Ideal Hotel location?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, first post and apologies if this has been answered before. I couldn't find anything specific to this exact question. Only reviews of specific hotels

I have My hotel already booked at this point with the option of free cancellation. I booked Prince Palace hotel over near Khaosan road. Would I be better off getting a more centrally located hotel? Or would I have just as good of an experience even though I would have to likely Uber into The city center? Would I have any issues bringing girls back to my hotel or having them come over with the exception of the ones who only want to do ST? Any advice is much appreciated because this is my first time going to Bangkok and I want to make it as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

I stayed in khaosan in my first trip to BKK; it's a very different vibe due to the high density of tourists. It feels much more aligned to a conventional backpacking tourism experience. It's much easier to meet other tourists etc..

It depends on what your intention is i.e. are you doing vanilla tourism with some mongering. Or mainly visiting as a sex tourist? If you'll spend the odd night or so in Nana or Soi Cowboy then stay in khaosan, it's a fun place and you will socialise easily enough if you're outgoing.

The central hotels, close to NEP have a different feel, imo. But besides that I don't see why TF girls or FLs will be hugely bothered, although you will likely need to include return taxi fare if the price.

Uber or Bolt or any taxi will take an hour to get to Nana area. More in the never ending rush hour. Unless you're on a backpackers budget I can't think if a worse hotel area other than near the airport.

At least stay somewhere on the BTS or MRT so you can get to Sukhumvit but they have limited late hours.

Yep, this is a terrible idea. Khao San Road is interesting to see and I would recommend getting dinner in nearby Chinatown, but there's no reason to stay in that area if you want to bring back girls from central Sukhumvit back to your hotel room. There's so many mongering options between Soi 4 and Soi 25 along Sukhumvit, plus plenty of hotels, restaurants and malls. You're also near the Skytrain and subway if you're interested in exploring farther afield in Bangkok.

Khaosan is for college kids and australians. Fine if that’s what you want, but for those who know, it’s a shithole.

I would estimate I'm going to be spending probably all my days being a tourist and all my nights being a monger so about 50/50? Like for example, I want to go visit Chiang Mai and Krabi while I'm there. Thanks for all the advice. I have a lot of time until my trip so I will start researching alternatives that are closer to the area and work my options.

If you're out at night then getting back to backpacker land will mean no public transit (0600-2400) so get a hotel near the action.

Honestly if you want to see the major tourist attractions take a day tour where the guide knows how to get there and what to show you.

There’s always the 511 bus for folks wanting to travel between Sukhumvit and Khao San lol. Nothing wrong with staying in Khao San if you’re a younger, traveler wanting to meet and hang out with similar like minded people, just like nothing wrong with lower Sukhumvit if you’re a sex tourist.

When I look at the OP’s hotel, it’s not really that close to Khao San though and I can’t think of any reason to stay at that location. If a person wants to do sightseeing, I’d recommend staying near a BTS or MRT station. I know I always try to pick a place close a subway/train station when visiting large cities with good systems. I also like to pick hotels closer to where I’ll end my nights than where I’ll start my days.

For a first time visitor who wants to be an ordinary tourist by day and sex tourist by night, I recommend staying on lower Sukhumvit to have easy access to the BTS and MRT, e.g. somewhere near Nana BTS or Asok BTS/Sukhumvit MRT.

Remember that both rapid transit systems stop at midnight making an awkward trip back even if it's on either but a lot of stops away.

Stay Nana or Asok area, use BTS to see the sights in the daytime and then stay where you can walk back after entertainment.

You might not find many bar girls wanting to go from their bar to KS road either

I would be cancelling that hotel ASAP Genghis..when travelling in asia/Thailand its all about location..ie being able to get around easily which means not too far from a BTS station or MRT ..Best to leave taxis/Bolt app as a last resort and forget tuktuks unless you are happy paying over inflated prices for short trips.

Then next you want to be near good eating palaces which for me in Bangkok is between Nana BTs and Asok .

Terminal 21 at ASOK Bts has so many different restaurants/coffee shops even a huge very cheap food court on 5 th floors

For night life in Bangkok nothing beats the Sukhumvit area around Nana soi 4 to Asok as many others have pointed out.

Also don`t stay in an hotel too far from the action ..There are many hotels in Soi Nana and Sukhumvit ,But for some night life action stay close..ie Majestic Hotel ,Ibis Hotel soi 4 ,On8 hotel Sukhumvit,Ruamchit Hotel,S 15 hotel Sukhumvit , plus many other hotels..Most of these hotels are mid range hotel but more than adequate for what you are looking for.

This is good advice especially for first timers. Khaosan was not really easy to get in/out of. If you stay on Sukhumvit you have BTS and MRT options as well as Bolt is cheap up and down or a tuk tuk.
