Farang4 Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 On my last 3 Thailand trips in 2018, 2019 and 2023 I stayed at the Promenade Hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 8 for a few days. When I came back in 2023 after a 3.5 year gap I almost didn't recognized one side of the soi anymore where shops have been replaced with bars and it was a lot busier in the evenings. Behind the Promenade Hotel was the Wannawit School. It closed down in 2022 and was demolished a few months ago. On a blog I read they are planning a new night market there similar like Art Box. In a youtube video the youtuber said they are planning a new barcomplex. Does anyone know what they are actually planning there? And what the current situation is? If it's a construction site now and a market or bars in the future I will not be staying at the Promenade. Too noisy for me. Demolition of the school. Building at the left is the Promenade.
Woody Woodpecker Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 Having lunch on Soi 8 today, some of my favorite restaurants over there. I've been a customer of Bamboo Massage for 20 years. Girls were hanging out in front Lolitas Prominade Hotel, looks like adjacent lit is fully cleared. Lunch at Monsoon Penne seafood, oysters, and wine. 2
Woody Woodpecker Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 ... And there's room for dessert, and more wine. 3
Farang4 Posted March 15, 2024 Author Posted March 15, 2024 Thanks for the photos! I decided to stay at the Promenade next week. It's only for two nights before I go to my next destination. Will ask arround if people know what they are planning on the cleared lot.
Woody Woodpecker Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 I hung out there a while last night, it's more relaxed than Soi 11. Brew House is a new place, just opened. Great selection of fine brews and they won't add 17% to the bill. Det5 restaurant has great prices but stop serving food at 11 PM, same as other restaurants on the Soi, but you can still get a BJ at Lolitas or full service massage at Bamboo. Soi 8 a good option to start your evening before moving on to another area. 6
Mr. Plug Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Late to the thread, but thanks Woody for all the intel and photos about Soi 8. I'm also a fan of the Soi. I usually stay at On8 (across from Bamboo) for my first few nights in Bangkok. I've also stayed at Hope Land Hotel further down the soi. Both are reasonably priced hotels which I've been happy with, but I will also check out the Promenade for next time. I hang out at Viva a lot drinking beer, and I've gotten in the habit of ordering their Marguerita Pizza. Viva has it delivered from "Otto" pizza around the corner (same lane as Lolitas and the sign is visible in your photo above), and it might be among the best pizza I've ever had. Try it if you haven't already. Thanks for the info on the new Brew House. That wasn't there during my trip last fall, but it will definitely be in the mix for my trip later this year. Took refuge in the Red Hog bar five years ago during a torrential down pour. That little white dog still hangs out there, kind of like a mascot. Personally I hope they do not put up a beer bar complex on that soi. I have always enjoyed Soi 8 for it's laid back vibe, and it's getting busy enough without adding that kind of traffic to the mix. 1
Chachi420 Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Great recommendation for Otto Pizza. The Palma ham pizza is amazing! I stayed at Stable Lodge which for a budget hotel is decent. Friendly staff and close to everything. I am a lover of BJ bars, and Lolitas, Kassalong and Wood Bar were all within a couple minutes walking distance. Heaven 1
Woody Woodpecker Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 T🎱day @Soi8 Bar, a Jag (chilled) and a Heine. They shut the lights at 2AM but you can go inside and drink until 3. Gives the place a Speakeasy feel. 1
Woody Woodpecker Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 BeerLao at the Brew House. Very quiet at 1:30 this morn 1
CXW Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Many thanks for the postings especially the photos. I have always enjoyed the ambiance of Soi 8, a quiet Soi with good restaurants, yet a stones throw from the action. I used to often stay at the reasonably priced Grand Sukhumvit on Soi 6 (ideal location) which is being renovated into a Crown Plaza. Have also stayed at the Hope Land Hotel on Soi 8 which sometimes pops up with a good room rate (<30 $US) on hotel websites (Trivago, hotels.com, Expedia). There is a new higher end FS massage shop on the same side as the Hope Land between the hotel and the 7-11 (sorry I don't have the name).
Woody Woodpecker Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 (edited) ^^ I’ve stayed at the Grand Sukhumvit, really enjoyed. My bar fines liked it too, and they had a Filipino band that later moved over to the Huntsman Pub in the Landmark. The place I miss is the Kiwi. I used to have breakfast there often, and they had a special price on Jack Daniels Thursday nights. Edited June 11, 2024 by Woody Woodpecker 3
