Actions like this will turn tourists off.  If you can't give a negative review, then how can you trust any reviews about Thailand?  I can't believe they actually jailed him, but time will tell if he serves any time.  This really makes LOS look bad imo ...

This s an extreme case to say the least, but the guest does seem to be an ass hole. Read the story about the original altercation in the hotel restaurant over a wine corkage charge.

I do not believe it was the 1 star review that landed the guy in hot water with the authorities. It was the defamation of the restaurant manger and the false, vindictive (from the perspective of the hotel manager) report posted on travel advisor. Did the hotel manager over react in filing charges? Absolutely. I would be concerned about his mental state If I were the owner. Perhaps both the manager and the guest should take an anger management course with Jack Nicholson. 555.

My understanding is that the guy went on multiple review sites, and left reviews that went clearly over the top and far beyond his original grievance, with the apparent goal of damaging the venue's deputation and future revenue. It's those latter points around scope, truthfulness, and ultimate intent that hung the guy. He clearly wanted to screw them, and got screwed in return. Som nam naa...

The guy was posting multiple bad reviews so the hotel asked for police assistance after he refused to talk with them. The police mediate issues like this all the time, no charges just oversee a meeting to sort out a dispute.

He refused to turn up to the police summons, so an arrest warrant was issued.

Unless Daddy owns Red Bull, if you get a summons by the police you go.

The guy deserves everything he got.

Yet another reason to stay in nice hotels.

It is a beautiful resort.

The guy was an a-hole that was pissed because they would not let him drink his own whiskey at their bar. He then went on multiple sites and posted many defamatory posts. He was not even a customer, he just went there to drink. This is not a free speach issue, it is a clear case of malicious defamation.

The resort re-named itself within a year of this incident, after being in business 20 years.  The fallout must have been devastating to their bookings. 😄

The reviewer was a guest that had paid the walk-in rate, the dispute was over a corkage fee.  The reviewer posted three reviews because his initial post was removed.  Trip Advisor, in particular, was adamant in defending his right of free speech.  They post this message on their website about the resort.

Message from Tripadvisor:This hotel or individuals associated with this hotel filed criminal charges against a Tripadvisor user in relation to the traveler writing and posting online reviews. The reviewer spent time in jail as a result. Tripadvisor serves its users best when travelers are free to share their opinions and experiences on our platform – both positive and negative. The hotel may have been exercising its legal rights under local law, however, it is our role to inform you so you may take this into consideration when researching your travel plans.

I don't know what happened to the farang Food & Beverage manager who so ineptly handled this situation, causing irreparable damage to the business.  I assume he was terminated, maybe working at a Burger King now?

I've stayed at this resort.  I'd never stay there again because there are so many better options on Koh Chang.  I don't even mention this resort in my Koh Chang thread, because it's not worth mentioning, and I have stayed there.  Here are some better places to stay on Koh Chang.
