  1. All the Citadines are a good choice. Ruamchitt is a dump. Manhattan needs help. Fusion Suites, On 8, Darjelling, Paradiso, Majestic Suites, Kingston Suites, Sacha's Uno, Le Fenix, the City Lodges, Somerset Lake, Citichic, Citrus 13, Ramada on 10 are all pretty damn good and in your price range. wj
  2. Stayed on the Soi 22 unit. Was called something else then (can't remember). Still pretty new. Good spot. I like 22 & Wash Sq, so it's perfect for me. Not too far from SC. Long way to Nana. Between BTS stations so you'll cab it a lot. They've got a new one on Soi 13 and it's more central and a little cheaper. Not close, but walking distance to Nana, SC, & BTS. Guest friendly. Book direct - it's cheaper. Trustworthy ? I never want to test that - always lock yure shit up dude. Just tell the clerk out front at BKK your hotel and street. Printing up the hotel on the map isn't a bad idea either. wj
  3. Ever thought of just googling the hotel ? Some people are SO LAZY ! LINK: http://baiyokesky.baiyokehotel.com/index.php?main_page=service&id=14
  4. There's an entrance on the sidewalk & after walking past a couple shops to the lift - you can go directly to your room floor. Quite convenient since BarSu is there & it's full of overpriced hookers. wj
  5. Stampede, Bangkok isn't Saigon. I've stayed at 40 or 50 hotels in BKK (usually 4 or 5 star) and have yet to be charged a joiner. I don't even think about it anymore. 6 or 7 years ago, you had to be more careful. Joiners are out there - like Amari Hotels, but in a small minority these days. Maybe more efficient for guys to post when they get nicked for joiners - then we can avoid the fuckers. ps: Almost forgot, still lots of joiners in Phuket, so do your homework. I hate that place now. It's been turned into a giant rip-off machine since the tsunami. To get the best prices, compare Hotels Combined, Agoda, WOTIF, & Latestays. wj
  6. GF. 100 yds from Cowboy. The place rocks ! Don't pay more than 3000B. There's deals out there. wj
  7. This is what Google turned up in about a 100th of a second: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/258813-/
  8. Jrdk: Need more info dude. Must be 100s of 4 & 5 stars in Bangkok. How much are you willing to pay ? You're bring your own, so are you going to do temple tours and the National Palace ? Do you want to go shopping ? Do you want to hit the Hi-So clubs and restaurants ? Do you want to visit the Go-Gos ? Do you need a great pool and gym ? Do you want to be near BTS or MRT ? Why don't you read Lonely Planet or something and figure out what you want to do and what neighborhood might be good for that. Then we can help you out. We all usually stay near the pussy in the Sukhumvit area. If I was bringing my own I'd probably stay down by the River or Lumpini Park. wj
  9. No joiner in anyplace that says 'Suites' or any managed apts. No joiner (for 1 girl) anywhere near Nana either. Place looks good. I booked it for Sept. but had to cancel trip. Give us a report, eh ? Look around a bit. I saw it for 1800 somewhere. wj
  10. Klege: It's way too far out for the 'Pussy Hounds' on this forum. I for 1 cannot figure why the fuck anybody would wanna stay out there. Live maybe, but on holiday, no way. You know of course that BKK has excellent & cheap public transportation. Maybe check out Rough Guides, Thai Visa, Teak Door, Virtual Tourist,& Lonely Planet. Chock Dee; wj
  11. Booked in Dec since I'm a big fan of Bacchus nearby. Got it on Agoda for a hell of a lot cheaper than the direct price ($80 ai). Thanks for the good suggestion xcess. wj
  12. FuramaXclusive Asoke is $48 on Travelocity right now. $70 any place else. Some good mystery deals on WOTIF too. This place looks like a great deal too. LINK: http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/bangkok/twin_palm_sukhumvit_hotel.html wj
  13. Yeah, we've figured out a few of them on another thread. All of them are good deals, but the best has to be Solo 2 for 1000! Just copy & paste the description and Google it. wj
  14. Sam: All hotels have 24 hr desks and will check you in if they have room. It's off season and they have lotsa room ! Just e-mail the hotel ahead of time. Many good options were enumerated on your thread over on the PA side. I just booked Pachara Suites for Sept. It's new and getting great reviews. $60 all in. Try Hotels Combined for the best prices. They combine maybe 50 sites and Agoda is back on there as well. wj
  15. Yeah, just book for 2 guests. Laundry - no clue. I usually have the old birds on the soi do it. Cleaning daily (might be different for long term guests). From the pics, it looks like they put in LCDs. I went from an upgraded room at the SGS to CP10 and was impressed. I doubt they've gone downhill much in the last 9 months. wj
  16. The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is 3200 baht on weekends through Aug (at least). wj
  17. Some guy on Flyertalk took a test run. Here's what he had to say: I took the time this week to find out how the new Airport Link will work. I took BTS to Phaya Thai station and the City Link to the airport, walked up into the airport and back to the City Link. Observations: * There is no connection between Phaya Thai station and the Airport Link. You have to go down to the street, walk along the street and then take an escalator or elevator up to the ticket hall. * There are 3 levels at the City Link station: 1. The first above the street has no current function but could be tied into BTS if they spanned the 10 meter gap between the City Link section and the BTS ticket level. Otherwise, this level serves no apparent purpose. 2. The next level, the ticket hall, is reached by escalator or stairs. Security checks are performed at this level after the gates. 3. The final level is the platform. * The City Link trains are very different than the photos shown of the Express trains. The City Link are very similar to BTS except the seating is bench-style i.e. not individual as in BTS and the depth of the bench is very shallow and extremely uncomfortable for this farang. * There are no luggage racks. There is an open area at the end of the car that I guess you could put luggage or you could pile it in front of you. * As the train did not stop at any station, it took 16 minutes each direction. The ride was relatively smooth and certainly didn't give the impression of the real speed we were doing (other than seeing that we were moving faster than every car on the tollway). * Some of the stations are set up to have separate tracks for the City Link and the Express (possibly even all of the stations between the airport and Makkasan. This would allow the Express to pass the City Link. The express track terminates at Makkasan. * The signage at the airport seems pretty good. One thing I didn't see was a distinction for the Express versus the City Link but I assume that will be in place when the Express service is running. * There are moving sidewalks at connecting the lower level of the airport terminal with the City Link / Express ticket hall. They are the slowest moving sidewalks I have ever encountered. Comments: * There may be an elevator down from Phaya Thai BTS but I did not see it. I had to walk down a lot of stairs, first from the platform and then from the ticket hall. I had figured that taking the Airport train would be ideal during rain given how jammed up Bangkok traffic can get. Unfortunately, there is no way I could see to get from Phaya Thai BTS to the City Link station without getting soaked. Even when it isn't raining, you would be challenged if you had anything other than a light carry-on bag. * I was glad that the trip lasted 16 minutes each way as sitting on those benches for 30 minutes would be challenging. Given the lack of luggage racks, you may find it more functional and comfortable to sit on your luggage. The Express train seats look much better. * At the Phaya Thai City Link station, there are a lot of staircases and only a few escalators. This seems very odd to me given that it is on airport train where you would expect people to have baggage. I would have expected lots of escalators and a few staircases for backup. * While we only "drove" through Makkasan station, I will say that it is massive. It appears to be an entire airport terminal. Not sure why they have elected to so much money on this but... I hope that in the coming months, they will connect the BTS and City Link concourses. There is no indication that this will be done but it did take several years for Central Chidlom to be connected to Chidlom BTS so there is always hope.
  18. It's a serviced apt. and as such, you can bring in a girl, a boy, a poodle, and an armadillo. It's none of their business (unless you bring them all to breakfast) !
  19. If I'm usually chowing street food, but I can recommend Love Scene on 23, Giustos on 23, Los Cabos on 16, Cabbages & Condoms on 12 (good food, setting, & cause), Thong Lee on 20, Le Dalat & Baaan Kanitha on 23, Seafood Mkt on 24 (too expensive, but good), and Tenderloins on 33. Away from Suk, I love the Wine Bar at the Pullman (great specials) and the Oyster Bar down Sathorn way. wj
  20. Why in God's name would anybody want to stay out there ? No matter how short my turn-around, I'd come into town. wj
  21. Have all the rooms at the RP been refurbished now ? It's getting rave reviews on Trip Advisor these days. wj
  22. My #1 would be Siem Reap. If you've never seen Anchor Wat it's a must. Some good P4P and fun at night on 'Pub St' too. Better Viet girls in the biz here than in Saigon, I think. 3 days would be perfect. 2nd choice, I'd go to HCMC. Great town IMO. I like Phnom Penh for 3 or 4 days, but PP is admittedly a shithole. You can bring girls back to virtually all hotels in HCMC that cost less than say, $50. If you want to stay in a good hotel, just use the 'Mini' Hotels for ST. They're pretty nice actually. Go to the # bars at the river end of Hai Ba Trung. Always seem to have some luck with Viet 'civilians' as well. For your visa, go down to the Vietnam Embassy down on Wireless (next to Plaza Athenee). They'll have your pp & visa ready the next day. Here's some advice - keep your valuables in plain sight when getting a massage in Nam. (I've been robbed as well as 2 of my friends) They like to sneak a girl under the table when you can't see anything. When you get your Vietnam visa, make sure the dates are correct. They've got a scam where they date it after your arrival, then immigration will shake you down at the airport or send you back to BKK. Yes, I've been shaken down. The big boss came over and wanted $200. I think I haggled him down to $40 or 50. I know 4 or 5 other guys who got the same treatment. I recommend you stay away from the hookers on the motos. Lotsa scams involved with these girls. For daytime action, ask a moto to take you to a Hot Toc. It's a barbershop that doesn't cut hair. He'll get a %, so if you go back, have the moto drop you around the corner. wj
  23. Stayed there a couple of times and was given a huge (by BKK standards) apt. Must have been 800 sqft. Big bathroom, deck, living room, kitchen, & nice pool. I'll probably bunk here again in Sept. Never seen it so cheap ($51). I'd say it's 70% residents - 30% hotel guests. My only bitch - no LCD tvs (last year anyway). All in all thumbs up ! wj
  24. Stayed there a dozen times. Total time 12 hours. You can do better. Good selection of Cubans in the lobby though. Nothing like a good smoke after a shag ! wj
