  1. Stayed there 3X. Like it alot. Close to SC, but too far from Suk & BTS for me (especially during the Monsoon or heat). I like another one of their hotels, Adelphi Grande on 41 better. It's 50m to Suk, Emporium, Phrom Pong, Tops Grocery Store, & has a better pool & gym. It's newer & should be about the same price. wj
  2. Try Craigslist, Trip Advisor, & Thai Visa.
  3. You could buy a Discovery Airpass from BKK Air (PG), but you have to purchase 3 segments & they don't have flights REP-PNH. There are flights on that route, but they're pricey. PG fucks you bad on the BKK-USM & BKK-REP routes since they have a monopoly. If you're also going someplace else, go for the pass. Otherwise IIWY, I'd just bend over & take it like a man on the BKK-REP leg. Take a bus (or shared taxi) down to PNH & fly Air Asia back to BKK. Here's the link:http://www2.bangkokair.com/en/plan-your-trip/discovery-airpass/discovery-airpass.php:
  4. E-mail them & see what they charge for 1/2 a day. If it's an expensive hotel, maybe you might just want to switch to a cheap one. BTW, one is VERY clean after a soapy - you might wanna finish your trip with one. wj
  5. Cabbie obviously a MENSA member ! To even things out a bit - I had a friend who left $20K US in a cab returning from BKK. The $$ was returned a few hours later. He had none of the cab/cabbies particulars either. Amazing ! wj
  6. New place on Soi 11. Walked by it a few times. Seems to be getting good reviews:http://www.cnngo.com/bangkok/eat/where-eat-sukhumvit-soi-11-342203
  7. I've gone in CI 99 for 10 years and snagged a few nuggets outta there. Now the food's good too. They're often open Election and Buddha holidays too. What alley, do you mean the entrance way ? Wow Cattoc, free Heineken ? The Danes would have a heart attack ! wj
  8. Skip the train unless you're arriving or leaving during Rush Hr, staying close to a station, and are traveling light. Personally, I'd rather not lug my shit all over the place and up and down stairs and getting all sweaty, to save 200B. BKK Taxis are still remarkably cheap. I've taken the train 5 or 6 times and it's not all that fast when you start counting from your hotel front door or vice-versa. Sometimes during the BKK clusterfuck, it just makes sense though. wj
  9. I liked the PP, lots of pools and connection to the Capitol Club (a great health club). You want a rocking hotel in that hood - Golden Tulip Mandison. It's at the end of Soi 20 where it connects to 22. It's brand new and feels like a 3000B/nite joint. Great pool & gym. Look around a bit and you should be able to snag it for 16-1800 all in. Here's the TA reviews:http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293916-d1965812-Reviews-Golden_Tulip_Mandison_Suites-Bangkok.html All these joints are way to far from Suk IMO though. wj
  10. I wouldn't stay there if it was 500B. I don't care what you're paying - you can do better ! wj
  11. Ate there Nov-Dec 3 or 4 times when the 1st opened. It was good to decent. The Oz owner seemed a friendly fuck. Reminds me a lot of the Penalty Spot on Suk. wj
  12. Stayed at 4Points on 15 for 3000 Starpoints. Love that place. Great pool, gym, Beer Vault, Roof Bar etc. Close to Suk. I think you can get it for 2500. Tried Tenface on Ruamrudee. Huge 1bdrm with 2 big LCDs, deck. decent lap pool and gym. Good bar and restaurant. Nice amenities and staff. Paid 1700. Great place, but way too far from Ploenchit Station. Tried the Golden Tulip on Soi 20. This place is really done to a high standard. Absolutely beautiful rooms, lobby, pool etc. Feels like a 5000B hotel. Paid 1500 or so. Why - It's a long long way to Suk. Convenient if you like to dick around on Soi 22 though. I did a lot of fucking walking last trip. wj
  13. Yeah, good location, great big rooms and fairly new. A little overly ornate for my taste and no pool. Still a steal for 1500 IMO. wj
  14. Once again, I've stayed at 50 BKK hotels maybe and have yet to be charged a joiner. I like to try new hotels and I don't even think about it. Frequently,(not in your case apparently) the front desk or security guard sees a newbie and an opportunity for $$$. Some places will charge you for 2 girls though. Not a big loss Manhattan, I thought it was over the hill 10 years ago. It looks pretty shabby from the front. Good pool for a cheap hotel though. wj
  15. Good news ! I read somewhere that they had closed down. Food's good. The Filipina Girl Singers are cute and cheesy-good. BF-ed 5 or 6 hotties outta there. They always had a midget out front for good luck. The hostesses had a classy air to 'em. Kinda like Soi 33. wj
  16. Oh, good to know. The fucker was exaggerating again. I'm at the 4Points in a couple weeks (if I don't fly into PNH or SGN instead). Would obviously rather be at the SGS for less $$. Thai desk clerks don't usually negotiate well. They're deathly afraid of making a mistake and losing face. Once you get to the manager you can talk turkey. wj
  17. Friend of mine is at the Sheraton now. All the bars and restaurants are closed. He estimates they're 1/4 full. Published rates on Agoda, Expedia etc, seem about the same. Bet you could do well walk-in though. wj
  18. If you are going next week, just get on an inner-tube outside your hotel on Asoke and the flow should take down the Saen Saeb Canal all the way to the Wats and the River. wj
  19. I use all of them. Hotels Combined shows most of the big wholesalers (including Agoda & Booking.com). WOTIF & Latestays are worth looking at too. If you see a hotel you like - Google 'em and see if the price is better direct. Sometimes it is. wj
  20. I like Admiral Premier a lot. Book direct and you'll same a bundle. Convenient for SC, but a long way to Suk. Nothing wrong with DG either, if you're a fan of Nana. wj
  21. Badtaya: Why don't you just ASK us (or Tim) for a hotel recommendation in a certain price range near massage, supermarkets, and Cowboy - rather than asking these questions on every Bangkok hotel thread ? You might want to check out a map as well. As far as supermarkets in the lower Suk area - there's a Foodland on Soi 16. There's a Villa on Soi 31 and Soi 11. There's a small Tesco on Soi 24. There's a 7-11 every 50m anywhere in BKK. As for the rest - it's time to do a little research on your own my friend. wj
  22. 10 mins to SC & close - Villa Mkt on Suk Soi 31. wj
  23. Stayed at 19. It's supposed to be the better of the 2. Not a bad choice and worth the $$. Very close to SC. Only complaint - I found rooms noisy due to open front and location. You could do worse. wj
  24. Price ? Neighborhood ? Amenities ? Look for hotels that call themselves 'Serviced Apts' or 'Suites'. They don't give a shit what you do with whom. Examples would be Pachara Suites, all the Presidents, the Centrepoints, Adelphi, Admiral etc. wj
  25. Doug is a decent guy and I like the place. The food's not good even by expat standards. They give you plenty though. They're building a new joint in Thonglor as we speak. The place really comes in handy on election days, Buddha days, and King's anniversary days. wj
