  1. I'm under the impression that a little rain storm would be refreshing from the heat if caught in it.  Less customers would mean more of a choice for who's there, I think.  Might be less pressure for a first timer like me, not facing huge crowds.

Yeah it won't be as crowded how it is in say - Nov, Dec, Jan, none of the elbow to asshole tight crowded spaces. I tried low season in July last year and it was my best time yet. Girls can be a bit desperate at times. Alpha that shit and you'll be fine.

As a first timer add the Line app. Add the Line group and if you need a wingman just holler. Most BM's will oblige. Have fun.

  2. Things are clearer now since I learned that I can't get enough time off in July, looks like I'll be shooting for September, when I already have the time off guaranteed.

Less visitors in the low season I'm thinking, is this because it rains every day during this time?

Less visitors in low season means that some girls have gone home but there is enough to keep you spoilt for choice.

The rainfall charts points to that prediction but I found it no concern. I have travelled in both July and September before (as well as Dec, Jan, March, Nov) and managed to miss it ever being too rainy.

Oh sure it rains for a bit, then you dry out real quick.Having lived in Melbourne teaches you that rain isn't really a hassle. I packed a light spray jacket and to be honest I used it maybe once.

  3.

Mrs. Balbir's Indian Restaurant 155/1-2 Soi Sukhumvit 11/1, Bangkok.  Good place to have dinner.  Nice Indian food without being too "chili hot". Food is all in good portions and tasty.  It’s a little more expensive than some other indian places but for me its worth it.

Tandoori chicken (nicely spiced), chicken, 2 plain naans came to around 400 baht.

It seems to be a small chain, they also have a counter on the lower ground floor of Robinsons, Asoke, Sukhumvit Soi 19 and another in MBK Centre and another in Central Silom Complex and maybe others.  All serve similar menu.

     I second Babirs. Very good.

I buy a lot of street food on Soi 11, there's some sidewalk restaurants that open up around dusk, very good food.

  4. I'm an economist. I like to shop like any other happy consumer. I use the supermarkets to my advantage while in BKK as well as eating more street food as a first choice over say going to a restaurant. I like Big C, had a great time getting my groceries from there.

With shopping it pays to look around, BKK is wonderful for that as there are more stores, which means more competition.
Online is not always better and if it is then it's only slightly better.
For example I went to Pantip in July and found all of their stuff only a few dollars in price difference to online retailers in my country. When you add postage the cost saving for an item bough in BKK made for a slight advantage. I would not buy PC parts that were not consumables.

Also in my previous post I mentioned a few brand names. Branded clothes don't mean so much to me anymore. But I still shop around, keep my eye out.
Another idea not mentioned is Tailoring.
I enjoy tailored goods. The stuff I had made in BKK is good. I have a few nice shirts and pants for work.

  5. Notwithstanding this trip, I'm still looking for new spots to visit and explore. If any of you have found interesting or unique places off the beaten path (Bangkok central/ pattaya) please post.

I seem to recall a TR on Koh Chang it sounded like it had promise.

  6. The Siam area is home to some mega malls. Malls in the size unlike anything I have seen in my home state.
The shopping in BKK is easily comparable to Hong Kong, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
I tend to feel that Bangkok offers a lot more range. Pricing is similar but there are bargains to be found for sure.

These malls cater for what I would consider high end shopping as well as mid range branding.

For example, Gaysorn mall is mostly high end shopping.
Siam Paragon is again mostly high end. Though the department store has a variety of mid level range branding.
Central World is mostly mid level brands. It's a good mix.
MBK is where legit and counterfeit come together for some great bargain shopping fun. I prefer MBK over a market like Chatuchak because it's easier to navigate, air conditioning and it's right on the BTS. They have two food courts, Food island is very impressive. And did you know you can pay for your meal using a Rabbit card?
Terminal 21 - I really don't know how to classify this mall. But I like their food court.

*What do I mean by mid level range. Anything branded with a sigil or logo that most medium income earners can generally afford.
I dunno, think of coveted branded items like - Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Nike, but remember branding is on a tiered scale. The further up the food chain your polo shirts might come from CP or Paul & Shark. Your suits might come from Zegna or Brioni.
