  1. A couple of years ago i had to bring in codeine.
Requirements as you've stated are  - GP letter and the forms require pre-approval.
I would email them if time is running short, don't chance it by simply declaring, chances are it could get confiscated.
Plus you'd be hard to find pharmacies to provide OTC codeine and diazepam, although that is not the case everywhere in the land of smiles.

  2. I'm in and out of BKK in the last week of June (22nd) and then back again in late July for 5 nights.
I'm all over the shop really, Chiang Mai, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Vientiane, Pattaya.
All in my 2019 trip is 4 weeks and BKK serves as the hub in between some of these visits,  and again at the tail end of the trip.

I'm easy going about catching up.

  3. By the way (if anyone is still paying attention to this thread) and for future reference...does Chinatown close up earlier than other parts of Bangkok to make way for the streetfood ?

The day I visited Mega Plaza I went at around 5-6 pm and it looked like it was closing up for the day as did most of the regular shops in Chinatown. Wasn’t a problem as I also came to check out the street food, which I did haha...Just curious

If you went during the early evening you can get loads of street food over in the markets, on weekends it's available from lunchtime onwards till around 5-ish.

Directions, if you were standing infront of Megaplaza walk over towards the road bridge, this bridge is locally refered to as the iron bridge.

you'll see the khlong underneath, to your right walk up the tar sealed walk way, then you'll see the market to your left ,

walking through the market you'll find that it's a mixed market, cloths, stationary, heaps of crap, when you come to a road crossing look left and you'll see food vendors.

Note - it may not be at the first crossing, might be the second or third. I dunno my GF at the time took me but that was the course we walked.

If these directions are confusing open google maps and have a fiddle. Otherwise if you get lost, just walk along Ratchawong Road and you'll definitely see some food stalls.

  4. I’ve been several times to Pantip and found it to be good, especially for camera accessories. There’s also another mall just down the road that houses clothing wholesalers with good quality clothing and low prices. I’ve since discovered that this is where many market stall holders buy their stock from. Great tip about Fortune Town westexpat3, I’ll head there next trip.

Pretty sure that clothing mall you mentioned is called Platinum.

  5. why specially a hotel buffet. fancy sure, but is it worth cost.

plenty of places that offer buffets, what are your tastes?

considering the breakfast buffets that hotels offer , when booking hotels i tend to find all buffets that are included to be not worth it.

do the math and it is an add on cost, if that's more than breakfast elsewhere then I say No.

I do prefer to eat locally rather than at the hotel.
That is unless you want more westernised breakfast options then get the hotel buffet breakfast sure.

  6. I wonder if there's English forum like Bangkok addict for HCMC, Hanoi, PP or Siem Reap?

    thanks!

Yeah mate if you head over to the Pattaya Addicts forum there's a huge forum section on Cambodia

As far as I can tell there are only a few topics on Vietnam scattered between both forums, it would be good to have a section for it as well.

  7. I disagree with locking threads, sometimes there's value in revisiting an old topic.

I get what you're saying about newbs bumping old threads.
Given that half of the time it's done to raise their post count, the other times is that they've used the search function to find something and have come up with an old topic. So be it.

To prevent old threads being used as a way to increase your post count instead shouldn't the progression to Advanced Member status be reviewed.
My suggestion here is to make it based on contributions where they've received upvotes. Or a vote system from the pool of existing members as who gets Advanced Membership. (just some thoughts)

  8. I used to stay around Soi 11 all the time.
Places on Soi 11 I liked were the Grand Swiss and a smaller boutique hotelier called Double One which wasn't too bad.
On Soi 13 there's a few good options too. I used to stay at Citrus 13. Cheap, clean with good options.
I've stayed at Majestic for the past three trips to BKK, I think it's pretty good.
