Shifty
I have not but I have a buddy who lived there. It’s safe, cheap, and quiet. He did multiple stints over a few years and kept going back. Mongering is still available, but nowhere nearly as prevalent as BKK or Patts.
otwist90
Depends what you are asking. For Mongering there arent GoGo's like in Bangkok so unless you look via TF or chance it at Massage Parlours the options are probably pretty grim. I am sure something decent can be found on TF though. As a city in general? Absolutely loved it and made for a great change of pace from Bangkok to re-charge the batteries. Its relaxed, beautiful surrounding scenery, incredible food. I would absolutely reccomend visiting for 2-3 days to break up a Bangkok trip. Let me know if you would like any hotel or restaurant reccomendations. Chiang Mai had a very bustling P4P massage scene, with some stunners easily available, certainly not grim in anyway, just stay away from the tourist area. It's just different to the Bangkok scene, just as the Pattaya or Phuket scene is very different compared to Bangkok. Search this forum, there's a few of us who have posted various reports and info on the Chiang Mai scene.

And youre rght I have read (possibly the same) report on this forum of members who have had good MP success. I more wanted to stress there isnt anything like the GoGo scene like in BKK but shouldnt have said "grim".

Adore
What's generally the easiest way to get from the airport to wherever your hotel is? I've never used Grab and the few times I've used taxi in Bangkok the taxis would either turn me down (distance was too short) or try to rip me off. There is a Grab stand at the airport, but unless you're going out of town then just use the airport taxi. Chiang Mai is easy. Its a set 150 baht fee from the airport to the city. No hassles from any taxi drivers, its all very organized and friendly. Yes a Grab might be under 100 baht, but for an extra 50 baht take the easy option. Although I'd recommend Grab for bikes and taxis to get around Chiang Mai once you're there.
