  1. Has anyone stayed at the Hilton Sukhumvi Bangkok?

Me! ... it's a nice hotel on Soi 24 near Emporium Shopping Mall. It's just a 3 minutes walk to BTS Phrom Phong and 2 minutes walk to Mango Massage, EZ Massage and others.

Yes, it's girl friendly, they even didn't ask for the ID of my temporary companion. It definately fits all criterias of an upscale hotel, but they make you pay for this. If you are a Hilton HHonors Elite Member they will treat you nicely and you will get upgraded at least one (sometimes 2) level above your booked room.

  2. I really love Ubon but it's not really an area for mongering. There are a couple of soapies that mainly cater to thai man. AFAIK no gogo bars in Ubon, just some beerbars. But Ubon is also a unisversity town, so lot's of young students from Isaan who maybe are looking for some sponsorship. In any case you should be able to talk some decent thai, which definately increases your chances.

Maybe these links can help you: http://www.thaivisa....on-ratchathani/ and http://www.weloveubon.com/

  3. I really love the hotel, but even with 5% discount the rooms are still ultra expensive.

Actually I got a email back in june with the following offer, when using SOBKK promotion at accorhotels.com or softel.com

Keep in mind this offer should be for returning guest. Even I'm back in september I'll skip on this due to the insane rates of this hotels. Great rooms, wonderful staff, but so pricey

  4. Forget the doubletree. I find rooms in those places to be too small.

I stayed at all 3 Hilton hotels that have been opened so far. This is my very personal opinion:

    Millenium Hilton

    - located on Thonburi side, so you have to pass Saphan Taksin every time you want to go to the "right" side of Chao Phraya river

    - a little bit outworn

    - very heartly, friendly and helpful staff

    - if you booked a n executive room or executive suite you get breakfast for free at the lounge, but you have to pay for getting breakfast at the restaurant

    - gf

    - local market right around the corner, local restaurants as well

    - The Mall Tha Phra is a 5 minutes taxi ride away

    - easy access to Asiatique - The Riverfront

    - hotel offers free boat shuttle to BTS Saphan Taksin, which works well

    - great view from the Executive Lounge

    - easy access to Wat Phra Cheo, Wat Arun and Wat Pho by riverboat shuttle

    Conrad Bangkok

    - right in the middle of Wireless Road

    - hotel has free shuttle service to BTS Ploenchit

    - there's a mall next to the hotel but not many shops and restaurants nearby

    - gf

    - for me the matresses are very - too - firm

    - staff fits well for a business like hotel like the Conrad, but I never really liked their service attitude, but maybe it's just me

    - if you don't get stucked in traffic jam within 5 minutes you are at MBK, Siam Paragon and other malls

    DoublTree Sukhumvit

    - nicely located at Soi 26, near lot's of massage shops like Snow White, Angel Massage, Cherry Massage or EZ2 Massage

    - BTS Phrom Phong is a 3 minutes walk away

    - rooms are rather small but nicely decorated

    - very comfortable matress

    - Emporium Mall nearby

    - no one blinked an eye when I walked through the lobby with a sexy girl in my arm

    - if you book a standard room for 20.000 points you can get a Nor1-Upgrade to a suite for 900 THB, imho can't beat that

    - there's an alley that links the DoubleTree with the Hilton at Sukhumvit 24, so it's ideal for hotel hopping if you want to generate stays

    - lot's of chinese guests (mainly tour groups)

    My recommendation on your needs:

    1. Hilton Sukhumvit

    2. DoubleTree Sukhumvit

    3. Millenium Hilton

    4. Conrad

  5. What's put you off the Banyan Tree if you dont mind me asking?

nothing wong with your approach of trying out different hotels, but in my opinion Banyan Tree was rather old and outworn, service from hotel hotel was rater subpar standard, not really friendly, breakfast was ok, but nothing special, but you still pay premium rates for a 5 star hotel.

The hotel still benefits from its reputation from the past, but that's it.

So many awesome new hotels that proivde both great accomodation and service: (in no given order) W, Sofitel So, Sofitel Sukhumvit, Okura, Hansar, Oriental Residence, S 31 and probably many more.

But this is just my preference, YMMV

  6. I have booked a 2 bedroom suite, going with a mate. The booking sya it is for a maximum of 4 people. does this mean they will be ok if we bring a couple of girls back to the room ?

Yes, they will ... the hotel is gf and as long you don't have more than 4 person in the rooms there shouldn't be any problems at all.

Also wondering how far from soi Cowboy and Nanna this hotel is. It seems Nanna is only one stop away on the sky train but I was wondering how long it would take to walk if I wanted to.

Forget about walking to Soi Cowboy, but to NEP you should make it within 10 to 15 minutes
