Well guys, let me just say I had a great time, hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did.
Good to meet you Michael and great you enjoyed your birthday party.

I went in the afternoon the other day. About 2.30 pm. Really quick. Take a photocopy of main/front passport page, entry stamp and TMR (white) card. Also need a photo. There is a photo and copy shop down 1 floor if needed. You can get the application form off the website.
Hardest part is getting the idiot taxi driver to get you there. There is a map on the website but that just confuses the clowns.
Note they close between 12 - 1 pm. So 2 pm allows them to clear the backlog.

Mark, you're leaving in a week, when will you be back in bkk?
Plans changed again. Might not be next week but soon after. I will be gone before you arrive unfortunately. And it will be for some months. I actually have a "proper" job which I quite enjoy. But don't worry they will still take care of you in the bar.
Cheers,
Mark

Here now mate - but leaving in a week or so. :-(

Dang, will not be in BKK till Jan. Happy Birthday and don't let Mark over charge anyone.....
The only person that is going to get overcharged is you mate - immediate price increase on the cranberry juice. ;-)

Last time I was around (april this year, during songkran, I visited bar 4 and asked for Mark, but the lady on duty kindly answered me you were not there. Retry in october then :P
I have been in West Africa for a few months doing a "proper" job. Sad thing is the bar seems to work better when I am away from it. ;-)
The good news is I am on my way back soon Michael so we can have a beer or 10 mate. See you in October and looking forward to helping in your birthday celebrations.

I prefer really fat, old and ugly blokes to drink with, so I can be the most hansum man :P
I fit the above, and you forgot bald. ;-)

Thanks for your comments mark. I have yet to taste an Aussie red that could be described as barely drinkable.
No sweat mate. I am currently being hounded by some sociopath on another forum about some bill from 2006. This bloke has a sheep loose in the top paddock I reckon.
Fortunately people that know me come to the fore and help out.

Glad you cleared that up. I have met you briefly a couple of times in your old Soi 8 bar (with Brownie, Leachie, Mick the Greek, Andy, etc) and the behaviour described above seemed most out of character. I read what was written above to Andy and he too was most puzzled. You big, bald, standover merchant. ;-)
BTW Christmas lunch in No Idea was excellent. Now I know why - your chef is quite accomplished.
I also know Peter, the guy that owns Stonefish Wines. A very nice bloke who will be most dissapointed to hear his wine is not drinkable. :-(

Ate there Nov-Dec 3 or 4 times when the 1st opened. It was good to decent. The Oz owner seemed a friendly fuck. Reminds me a lot of the Penalty Spot on Suk. wj
Actually a Kiwi mate.

The house Stonefish (Aussie) shiraz is attractively priced (cheap) but falls sadly short of being drinkable.
It actually is not a bad wine however it does need a lot of air prior to drinking - decanting it does wonders.

Thanks. I havn't been to forutune town, is it better than pathnip plaza? I usually go to pathnip plaza, and i like that place ;) :D
I haven't been to Panthip in ages. Fortune Town I prefer as it is easier to get to and it doesn't have the aggressive touts.
You can get most things at Fortune.

There are two areas I know of. Panthip Plaza & Fortune Town. Fortune Town is the most convenient - take the MRT to Rama 9 stop. There are signs in the station directing you after you arrive.

There is a whole electronics street that I wish I could find again. Stores selling all kinds of components- chips, transistors, etc.- and again, a line of street shops with guys fixing fan motors.
Probably Ban Mo over near the river. maps.google.com and search for Thanon Ban Mo. I take the river ferry from Saphan Taksin to Memorial Bridge and walk in from there.

Good on you, Mark. Are you having the real grand final on Sunday too?
Thought this would happen - Astro are now showing it on their schedule so we are showing the NRL Grand Final. Whew!
Cheers,
Mark

Good on you, Mark. Are you having the real grand final on Sunday too?
Our feed comes from Astro out of Malaysia and so far their schedule does not show it. But I find it hard to believe they won't show it - but as of now the answer, unfortunately, is no.

Sports bars? Any bar owned by an Australian with a TV will have both grand finals on - that curtain-raiser on Saturday and the proper one on Sunday.
This place definitely has it on live: http://www.sportsbarbangkok.com/
And here: http://www.downunderbarbangkok.com/
And here: http://auswathai.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=127609&p=3&topicID=28422996
And here: http://www.theofficebkk.com/
Maybe also Hanrahans or Strikers on Soi Nana - Gullivers on Soi 5 Sukh - the Sports Corner on Soi 20 ...
Don't forget this Aussie owned bar. :-(
We will have it on for sure - with audio.

BTS vs Taxi's

A lot of the sights are along the river. I find the best ie. most relaxing way to get there is to take the BTS to Saphan Taksin and then the river ferry . Cheap as chips and quite enjoyable.
