Suggest you look at Dynasty Inn. Good hotel, a few different room types and good value.
Cheers,
Mark -
I need when I am in Bangkok in a few weeks to get my laptop repaired.
It has a screen fault where it turns itself off if I move the screen to much or put the power supply when the screen is at the right angle - it goes back on pressing the power supply but my heart misses a beat each time.
Also need a hard disk imaged and a higher capicity disk put in.
Now I know there are hundreds of shops and there is pantip plaza etc but this is my workhorse which I use every hour of the day. I am self employed and need it for work.
So even if it costs more if you have a recommendation where they can do this with care then please let me know.
Hi,
Suggest you go to Fortune Town and just visit one of the smaller shops with a work area visible - 3rd floor I think (if the street level is 1). The ones I have used are pretty switched on and not too expensive.
But screen faults, especially if it is a replacement, are expensive so prepare yourself for the possibility of needing to buy a new machine mate.
I hope you are pleasantly surprised.

Watch out for reduce party times during the week of the 23rd of October. The 23rd and 26th are both National Thai holiday's for the Kings cremation ceremony.
Word is many places may be closed or closing early each night.
23rd? Don't think so mate.

Fortune town mate. Everywhere. BTS to Asoke then MRT to Fortune Town. Too easy. Fortune Town is streets ahead of Pantip. No annoying touts is a big plus. Having said that it has been ages since I have been there as Fortune is so convenient.
Or alternatively order them online and have them delivered. http://www.lazada.co.th/catalog/?q=cat5%20cables

Thanks Mark. I will keep that in mind. For me, having come from Vietnam a few days earlier, it was Ok. I think I will look for a good Korean restaurant for some Bigolgi next time. Know of any? Cheers!!
Hi Chook,
There are some Korean's in a plaza between Suk Soi 10 & 12. There is also a good one in the Times Square building, 2 floors up from GF. Where the walkway exits to Asoke BTS, a bit past soi 12 . I love the BBQ at your table.
Cheers Mate,

Let me know what you think about the food. You should visit the place as it is very nice inside. Cheers.
Hi Chicken,
To be honest it was just ok, nothing special. And quite expensive. Having said that I would certainly order it again.

Thanks for letting me know about that. Just ordered my lunch delivery from there. They get very good reviews.

Suggest you take a look at the Grand Dynasty on Soi 6. Very good value for money, decent rooms, pool (shielded from the afternoon sun) and other amenities. Lots of friends stay there, the type that when the company is paying it's the JW Marriott but when it is their own pocket it is the Grand Dynasty. Very good value for money.

Hi,
Well that will be a big relief for the Mexican restaurant on the soi 2 side. That being closed must have really hurt their trade. I for one, not a big fan of Mexican, will go over now to put a bit in their coffers.

I arrive on 20th of May, staying at the Majestic Grand. Any chance the passage will be open by then?
Mate,
You know as much as I do but from the photo's above it looks very unlikely.

Hi,
Some photo's of the construction site. Last 2 are towards where Annie's Do Do was/will be maybe. The walk through is still blocked off and the turds at the Sharma will not let anyone through so it's the long way 'round I am afraid. I understand it has really hurt the Mexican restaurant on the other side.

Sorry to bug u again mark but is Annie's Do Do bar open.
No problemo. Do Do is part of the renovation. The building from Do Do to next to the 7/11 has been gutted. Now it is an empty shell.
If I remember I will grab a pic later today. That's if the toxic smell is gone. Yesterday it smelt like a glue sniffers paradise as I walked past.

It's still closed mate. Very much WIP.

Hi,
Can't stand the place myself. Lived there for 2 years recently. Here is a thread that covers it in detail though:

Hi,
You might try Heaven@4 on Soi 4. http://heavenatfourhotel.com. Owner is Mike. Nice fellow and the hotel is nice. I know he does monthly rates.
You could also try Petals Inn which is virtually next door to Heaven@4. https://www.hotelscombined.com/Hotel/Petals_Inn.htm. To be honest I don't know anything about them except the place is relatively new and in the style that may give a monthly rate. Try the internet to contact them and if that fails let me know and I will stop in to ask them about monthly rates.Another one is Lohas. https://www.lohasresidences.com/. Entrances on Soi 2 & 4. My mate has been staying there for a few months and is not impressed. He reports poor service and a building that is moldy. But worth checking out.
Also there is My View further down Soi 4. http://www.myviewapartmentbangkok.com. I stayed there for years and it is ok. Massive bedroom, comfortable as fook but small living and kitchen areas. No lift so try and get a lower floor if you can. 2 apartments to a floor so not much foot traffic. Owner is a bird called Khun Ning. Worth a look see.
All the above places are within walking distance to Nana BTS.
Once you find a place and are on the ground you can then take a walk around to see what suits better.
Hope this helps.

best dumpling and xiao long baozi in thailand... but pricy.
Hi,
Yes they are good, real good, but I prefer the "real thing". Jump on the skytrain over to Saphan Taksin. Then take the public ferry up the river to Chinatown (Sathorn to No. 5 on the map below). Walk up Rajawongse to China Town and wander around there for as long as you can take the crowds and then dive into a hole in he wall dim sum restaurant. They normally turn out to be quite big inside. Enjoy the air-con, dim sum and a cold beer.
One of my favourites in Bangers.

Hi,
Can't go past the Dynasty Group of hotels. Good locations and facilities. www.dynastyinn.com. Dynasty Inn is 50 m from Nana Plaza (and 20m from my place!). Grande Dynasty is a little more upmarket with swimming pool etc. And there is also the Dawin & Parinda hotels also on Soi 4.
Anyways the web sites will let you know what is available and at what price.

Never seen it in Bangkok, but that guy who owns Bar 4 on Soi 4 probably knows, he's been there forever.
That guy? Knows nothing, he is a real clown.

Guys,
Australians can roll up and get a 30 day visa exemption. No need to pay anything. If you need to stay a bit longer you can get a 7 day extension in country. It ain't hard.

21st-23rd June as a stopover heading to Phnom Penh. Anyone up for 2 nights of carnage in the Nana area send a pm! ^_^
edit: Never been to BKK at this time of year before. Only been over January - April. How does it differ?
This year it is a bit more quiet than usual. So will have the pick of the birds mate. Expect a bit of rain as well. Seems to have just arrived in the last couple of days.

A friend is trying to connect connect his wireless printer to his new laptop. Works fine with the old laptop (I configured). I tried and can't get it working. Does anyone know a support person that can come on site i.e. his apartment, and assist?
Thanks,
Mark
