  1. Not near the BTS but near the MRT route: try staying in Ratchada. It is a lot more local than Sukhumvit and has plenty to offer. From the huai kwang night market to major malls just as Central Rama 9 and Esplanade as well as some mongering action in the form of the huge soapy massage parlours such as Emmanuelle, Posideon and The Lord. You could also try staying at On Nut. Plenty of street food and massages everywhere and all at local thai prices.
  2. Yeah they are a ripoff unless you know how to take one, and they are more for the uniqueness and experience more than anything else. To be fair though, in the more local areas, they usually do charge local prices and rarely rip you off.
  3. For locals it should honestly be 20 or 30 ฿. For farangs probably they start the price at 200 ฿. I would accept anything less than 50 ฿.
  4. Pretty sure he just means Thai SIM Card.
  5. do you mean motocycle taxis? If yes then fares typically start from 10 - 20 baht and then range to 150 and above. If you are a farang, be prepared to be quoted 50% or even 100% more than what the cost would be. For example I took a motosai taxi from Nana to Sukhumvit Soi 11 and paid 40 baht (which is already quite expensive, but given its in a tourist area), but have overheard other motosai taxi's charging 150 baht for the same distance. However, in more local districts, the price is obviously lower. For example from my condo in Rama 9 to Rama 9 MRT was 20 baht, from my condo to Nana was 80 baht, from my condo to Hwai Kwang MRT was 50 baht, and from my condo to Esplanade was 40 baht. How I usually judge a price is 20 baht for every MRT/BTS stop. So for instance from my condo to Nana: Condo to Rama 9 MRT: 20 baht; Rama 9 to Sukhumvit is 2 stops so 40 baht, and Asoke to Nana is 1 stop so 20 baht. In total 80 baht. There isnt a maximum distance they will cover, but they wont go super far either. And no they are not the safest mode of transportation. They are however, probably the fastest.
  6. Many condos are not going to rent out the room for just one month. For many owners, they would want a minimum of 6 months. However, you might be able to find someone who wants to sublet it out for a month. Can't personally recommend any service apartments / apartment style hotels as I stayed in a condo.
  7. I'm young so never had a problem before of not getting hard or not being able to finish, but for the fun of it, and because I wanted to try, I bought 3 sachets of kamagra gel from the corner of soi 7/1. The guy quoted me 50 baht per sachet, or 5 for 200 baht. I negotiated to 3 for a 100 baht.
  8. Excellent detailed description for those who don't know what a g-club is. It's not for me though. Too expensive, and too much time and effort needed to put in. I manage one night stands and freebies either ways so no point in signing up for an overpriced membership to maybe get some pussy.
  9. G clubs are gentlemen clubs. A waste of money in my opinion because usually sex is not on the table.
  10. There's a saying: don't shit where you sleep. I wouldn't stay along lower sukhumvit. It's too crowded too expensive and too many farangs. Instead I stay in a nice condo with plenty of both locals and expats just a 5-10 min motocy ride to soi cowboy. Paying less than 15k too!
  11. It's a 60 ฿ and 7 minute motorcy ride to Asoke, so yes to soi cowboy. However, not on the BTS line. Furnished but initially not with wifi. I asked my housing agent to get it installed for me.
  12. Go to the soapys and look for the fishbowl girls.
  13. You'll find apartments in on nut and further away from nana/SC for that price. Nothing closer. These are basic apartments with hot water and air con. Probably no wifi included. Can't recommend any myself because I'm paying 13k for a decent condo. Try hipflat.
  14. Just fly from DMK to Phuket and back for a short holiday. Took NokAir. First time flying with them and they are pretty good. They have complimentary 15kg check in luggage as well as a free small bottle of water and cupcake. Not sure exactly how much it cost, because the 'girlfriend' paid for them. But should be around 1500 ฿ for a return ticket.
  15. I dont recommend the rooms in Nana Plaza itself. They are filthy. I always used the short time hotels along Soi 4 called DI Place Hotel. Its about a 3 minute walk from Nana Plaza and costs around 350 for 2 hours. Either ways, the girls will know where all the short time hotels are.
  16. Aspen Suites, Hotel Icon, Hotel Solo. All along Soi 2.
  17. You can get a full service massage for 1500 baht at Biwa Massage along Petchburi. I've personally never been there but have heard good things. I don't think it's a soapy though it's definitely a full service massage.
  18. 30k budget should be enough. Although some service apartments want a minimum of 6 month contract. Try looking for hotels that provide monthly rates such as Phachara Suites, Aspen Suites.
  19. I am in the midst of trying to plan a 5 day trip to Bangkok in Jan 2015 and was just browsing some hotel prices on booking.com and thought I would give Airbnb a browse too. Was wondering if anyone here has any experience with Airbnb in Bangkok and if yes, any recommendations on specific listings? Also compared to booking a regular hotel, are there any disadvantages of booking from Airbnb?
  20. The only American diner I can think of is V8 Diner at sukhumvit soi 12. I've been there a couple of times. The food is decent for my taste buds and reasonably priced. But I rarely eat non Thai food in Bangkok. It's one of the reasons I love thailand. Why don't you give them burgers a rest for a couple of days, hit the street and fill your stomach with some amazing cheap Thai street food!
  21. If you arrive at 5pm, by the time you clear immigration, get you SIM card sorted and take a taxi to your hotel, I'd say it would be around 7pm. After checking-in, I would suggest, a quick shave and shower, out for dinner, and you'll be able to hit the bars by 8pm. Both Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy open at 8pm until 3am. And even after 3am, there are after-hours clubs where you can pick up girls. Beer bars usually open from the afternoon until 3am so yeah its fine to go during the day and have a drink. Bangkok is about 35 degrees celsius for the next couple of days. I would suggest heading down to MBK/Platinum Mall to grab a couple of shorts if you dont have any. I can only recommend Aspen suites as I have stayed there before. Go back to page 1 and you can see my post regarding my stay.
  22. it should work if your phone is unlocked. just buy a sim card with 3G and you're good to go. I think the shops call them tourist sim cards but i am not 100% sure. Thailand uses the type A and type C plugs and outlets so just bring along an adapter or else the hotel should have one to let you borrow. Worst case, buy one from the street in sukhumvit for 50 baht or something (not sure of the exact price)
  23. I stayed in Aspen Suites in Soi 2. It is quite a walk from the hotel until the main road but there is a free hotel tuk tuk that can take you to the main road. It is also an easy walk to Rajah Hotel where you can simply cut through the carpark into Soi 4 and Nana Plaza is just a 1 minute walk from there. The hotel itself is quite good. Comes with breakfast and it has a swimming pool as well. Inside, the rooms are big enough for me, with a small dining table, small kitchen as well as it comes with a bathtub in the bathroom. The wifi was a bit slow though. It is guest friendly and doesn't charge extra, but to be sure just make sure you book for 2 guests. They keep the ID of your guest as well. But what really impressed me is when I brought my thai girlfriend over and she was just wearing simple shorts and a tshirt and they did not ask for her ID. I thought that was really professional and I think both me and my girlfriend would have been slightly upset if the reception did end up asking her for her ID.
