That feeling you get when you buy your airline tickets and get hotel reservations for Bangkok!!!  I have that feeling now...just purchased my airline tickets on EVA for November!!!  November can't get here soon enough!!  Since I'm a diamond member with Hilton, I opted for the Conrad Bangkok...hopefully I'll get upgraded...Conrad Manila always upgraded me to a suite.  If not, no big deal...I'll still have Executive Lounge privileges!!

Once I'm "boots on the ground", I'll provide updates on massage parlors, Nana and Soi Cowboy, and the BJ bars!!

I was waiting for flight costs to come down, but they've remained pretty consistent this month...Business class from Chicago to BKK set me back $5,777.  I have a 3 hour layover in Taipei, but that's manageable.  I've flown from Chicago to Incheon to Clark, with a 13 hour layover...that sucked!!!

I just booked EVA in business flying out of Houston in November. I have miles on American but couldn't find any availability on the dates I wanted to travel.

Oddly enough, my ticket cost was exactly the same as yours-$5777. About the same layover in TPE.

    Have fun out there

  2. I like the idea of a condo or apartment instead of a hotel in Bangkok even for a short stay. I have never used AirBnB before but I have looked at the site and tried to figure things out. I get a little confused and find it hard to understand why most places just don't tell you the name of the building so that you can map it out and determine if the place is right for your stay. No big deal.

I have always used only a condo in Pattaya and only a hotel in Bangkok. I like the sense of freedom that a condo brings moreso than a hotel. I would be interested in more details about serviced apartments too as it seems like you get the best of both worlds.

Smithzac91,  using miles sounds perfect.  I bet you got the best deal on them too.  I was worried that with fewer flight options prices would soar, but it hasn't been the case.

Really, I'm in a waiting phase.  Flights and hotels can be booked a few weeks in advance.  November is the first real option for a business trip with a side trip to Bangkok.  April/May just isn't a realistic option.

Any quarantine is a no-go for me.  I'll even take overnight flights to save time.  I can't sit around trapped in a hotel for any amount of time.

I think by November people will be eager to travel and Thailand will be ready to let tourist money come back in, but I could be wrong.

I agree. Quarantine will not work for me either. The miles were the same as they always are but the availability of flights on American's website surprised me. It's usually difficult for me to find a business class flight all the way from the US to BKK on the website using miles. I have to call and have an agent work it out. I guess I got lucky or maybe they are desperate for customers.

I am going to wait to book hotel rooms for a few months. There are some good deals to be found if booked right now, but many of them don't include free cancellation. I am finding that if I choose free cancellation for Nov/Dec, the prices are close to the same as they have been in the past. I'll keep looking though. If the Four Points or Landmark come up with a good deal that has free cancellation I'll probably go ahead and book it.

  4. I went ahead and booked a flight to BKK on November 23. I was able to use miles so there isn't much risk there. If I need to cancel because conditions aren't favorable for an easy trip, I will get the miles credited back to my account.

I hope we are all able to travel with few, if any, restrictions by then.

Yes and it’s a nice 4.5 star hotel. Not sure why you’d want it on the other side of the road though surely having it the same side as Nana is if anything an advantage?

No real reason. I seem to spend most of my time, with the exception of visiting Nana Plaza and Soi 4, on the odd side of Sukhumvit. I hate crossing the road because I can be a lazy ass sometimes.

I do agree, that if you are visiting Nana, it is certainly an advantage.

  6. I've stayed in a corner room twice. Once I paid for it and once I was upgraded for no apparent reason. I have also stayed in a premium room twice.

The corner room gives you a bit more space that is filled with a couch, chair and a coffee table. If that's worth the extra money to you, then book it. I do prefer the corner room but I didn't use the couch or chair to do anything but set things on. When I look at it like that, it's really not worth the extra money.

I would also say that the regular premium room is nice but not spectacular. It's probably easily compared with a few hotels in the area.

The things that I like most about the Landmark it's location in reference to Nana Plaza and the no hassle policy with the girls.

The things that I like least about the hotel is that I wish it was on the opposite side of Sukhumvit and I wish there was a decent laundry place nearby.

Don't get me wrong, I love the place but nothing is perfect.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Stayed at the Four Points last year and enjoyed my stay. Small hotel with top notch service. I did bring in gogo girls from Cowboy without any issue, but it is a small lobby, so if you are sheepish about these kinds of things, know that you will be noticed. As I remember there is a 24x7 door man who says nothing, but you have to be comfortable with your mongering. I checked the rates there not long ago and the going rate was closer to 200.00 USD per night. If you decide to go with Four Points, there is a Hooters just outside the lobby, if you find that enjoyable.

Four Points tip: To avoid marching the girl(s) through the lobby you can use your room key to enter through a "secret" back gate which bring you into the hotel through a rock garden / smoking area. Once in the rock garden, you open the interior door to the back of the lobby near the elevators. Can exit the girls the same way. The gate is located off of Soi 17 just behind the hotel. Very convenient and slightly faster to Cowboy.

$200 per night - ouch! Their prices do tend to fluctuate though.

Good point about the secret entrance off of Soi 17. It's also convenient to use when visiting Terminal 21 and other places in that direction.

  8. Landmark is great, in my opinion. Very close to Nana and not too far from Cowboy.

I like Four Points by Sheraton on Soi 15 as well. Closer to Cowboy but an easy walk to Nana as well.

I've stayed at both more than once and really can't choose one over the other. Both are very guest-friendly. You can either leave your friends ID at reception when bringing them upstairs or not. Up to you.

  9. I have only stayed in Four Points.and will be staying there again for 7 nights in December.

They leave you alone when coming in with a lady (or 2). I assume they would take her ID if asked but I never bothered. Not saying you shouldn't bother, I just chose not to.

You are correct about the location. Almost in the middle of Nana and Cowboy and a few steps away from Thermae. I choose it over Adelphi because I like the side of Sukhumvit that Four Points is on more than the side that Adelphi is on. Seems like there is more action on that side and Sukhumvit can be a bitch to cross if you get lazy like I do sometimes.

Four Points is also close to T21 like you mentioned and I visit there quite a bit to eat and what not.

I haven't tried to stay outside of that area yet as I like being in the middle so I wouldn't consider staying at the other hotel that you mention. I have not heard any negatives about the Adelphi but it's just on the wrong side of Sukhumvit for me. I also emailed them a couple of years ago and they replied that there was a fee for taking more than one lady back at the see time. That helped me make my choice on my first trip. I have read reports that say they do allow more than one at no charge but I didn't want to take the chance.

  10. Are soapy experiences that much better than some of the “normal” massage places?

Don’t know if it is worth the hassle of traveling away from the main drinking areas to get something I can get on Sukhumvit?

In my opinion, yes, they can be better. They can also be pretty average. I remember my first one in Bangkok at Copacabana. I had two days left on a two week long trip and decided to try one before I left. I was pissed that I didn't go earlier. I would have been back multiple times that trip.

They are different. I love the slip and slide part of the soapy on the inflatable mattress. It's something I look forward to now. In a 2-3 week trip I probably visit a soapy 4-5 times. Never had a bad time and certainly had some incredible experiences.

If you have the means, I would give one of the bigger soapy establishments a try. You might like it or you might not, but at least you will know for yourself.

  11. I've stayed in a Premium corner room at the Landmark twice. Once I booked it and once they upgraded me. Definitely had more space than the standard room. I liked the extra space. The rooms were really nice. You basically get a couch, coffee table and a comfortable chair that doesn't come with the standard room.

I agree with The Sith about them allowing girls without any fees. It is definitely a no hassle experience. I brought multiple ladies to the room on more than one occasion and they never said a word.

They also have several restaurants. The Huntsman in the basement is not bad and used to have some decent freelancers available. Presumably they still do. There is also a late night restaurant, possibly open 24 hours, in the basement which is not terrible early in the morning. Their breakfast buffet is good too, but expensive. There are a couple of other restaurants that I didn't try.

The hotel is older but well maintained, in my opinion. No complaints at all from me. All that being said, I am staying at Four Points By Sheraton this December. I like it equally as much and they have a similar attitude when bringing friends back to the room.
