  1. Tailor on Ten (on Soi 8) is good as is Tanika Tailor on Suk, even number side of street, close to Terminal 21 both are on the pricier side (for BKK)....it is all about the fabrics you choose.
  2. excellent...let me know how the stay goes. Enjoy! (and let us know if you are going to the Insanity opening night party!)
  3. thanks for the replies... I have confirmed with the hotel via e-mail that they are GF :) I have stayed at Aloft a few times....too loud and the pool does not get much sun. If the Mercure is crap, I would stay at the Sofitel, which is about twice the price..but very, very nice.
  4. Has anyone stayed at the Mercure Soi 11? It opened in April and is the former "President Palace". I was thinking of booking there in August. Based on location, I assume it is guest friendly. Thank you
  5. thanks for the notice about the mercure. Have a look at the Sofitel Sukhumvit. Not cheap, but great rooms, gym and pool. It it almost next to Thermae, directly on the Suk after Soi 11
  6. Look at the new Mercure Soi 11 - -replaced the President Palace. opened in April. Should be new and shiny. A bit cheaper is the Grand President on Soi 11....bad service and rooms showing their age, but pool is great.
  7. It also helps to understand how much a Men's Wearhouse suit costs.... There are plenty of tailors that sell cheap suits, but the fabrics are terrible. Men's wearhouse buys in bulk, so their prices are OK, but the fit will never be custom. For a trustworthy tailor, look at Tailor on Ten -- -actually on Soi 8. Great fabrics and great service. Not the cheapest, but decent value.
  8. I can not confirm if Uber is universal, but my USA uber account worked in BKK, so I think it is. great for longer rides and/or being a place that taxis don't frequent. Much, much cheaper than taxis as well
  9. how is the Huntsman? I am thinking that many of the gals that used to go to Bangkok Beat would go there. What is the age range? Lots of FL? decent talent?
  10. I have stayed at the Grand President a few times and won't do so ever again. The facilities are more than showing their age and the staff is poor. Yes, the location is great, but the service is poor. Three different towers and they all suck! A hotel on Soi 11 with a similar price point (and cleaner) is Citadines on Soi 11--across from the Aloft Hotel/Levels. Citadines on Soi 8 is also good, quieter street, with a shuttle to the Suk 24 hours a day... The former "president palace" just reopened as a "Mercure" hotel...higher price point, but perhaps you can get a deal.
  11. What is your budget? Plenty of places to choose from and ultimately, it is about the fabrics that the tailors use. I have bought shirts, pants and suits from Tailor on Ten (actually on Soi 8) and Tanika (on Suk close to terminal 21). I recommend both, but neither are cheap.
  12. try calling via skype Often times the policy will actually depend on if the hotel is full or not. They may want to help you, but if the hotel is full, then they let you down. Depending on how early you get there, maybe use the gym/pool. if the room is not too expensive, book the night before or ask if you can pay for an early check in
  13. try the sofitel....sukhumvit road by Soi 13 (online search for sofitel sukhumvit) great hotel and girl friendly :)
  14. depending on budget...Sofitel....just past Soi 11 almost above Thermae.
  15. Has anyone stayed here? I usually stay on Soi 11, but I am thinking that it might be nice to stay on the other side of the Suk/a less busy street. A bit more expensive than the Citadines on Soi 11...but manageable. Is the gym nice? Decent pool? thanks
  16. If you like Freelancer places (similar to Hollywood/Tiger Disco in Patong) try Climax on Soi 11 - entrance in parking garage of Ambassador hotel or Levels on Soi 11 in the Aloft Hotel. both close to Dream
  17. and always remember to ask this BEFORE confirming a reservation! Some places do charge, while others that say they charge do so to discourage the practice, but sometimes don't charge returning customers. Always be nice to hotel staff! (because it is the right thing to do anyway)
  18. Is the Mercure actually open? And is the Starbucks open as well? thanks
  19. I have tried it before with one service. I think it was 1200 baht, maybe 1500. I did not have a cart take me anywhere, but I was able to go to the fastback line and I was the only person in line. If you have carry on luggage, it is a great idea. If you are checking luggage, it does not help that much, because once you clear customs, you still have to wait for your bag.
  20. It is guest friendly, but the hotel has gone downhill in recent years. I stated there in December, but will never stay there again...which is sad, because the pool area is nice. Citidines on Soi 11 is decent, as is Aloft. Citadines on Soi 8 is also decent.
  21. 180 is very, very cheap but it is shared and they may wait a while until the van is filled with other passengers and your hotel could be last. I would rather spend a few extra baht for a private car and be the only destination. a taxi at the airport is easy..a car from your hotel is great because they will have a sign for you and you will not have to negotiate, but it is usually a bit more expensive, as they have to drive to the airport as well. Still, I always have the car from the hotel, as it is the easiest. vacations should not be about pinching pennies.
  22. Aloft on Soi 11 has a small fitness center/gym. It is not very good, but the hotel is modern/up to date. if you are willing/able to up your budget a bit, you might want to look at the new Sofitel on Sukhumvit..around Soi 13, right after Thermae. I stayed there in April...got a great rate on Booking.com fantastic gym, great pool, great rooms and guest friendly, no hassle, etc I have also stayed at the Grand President on Soi 11. Great pool, ok gym (old) but now the hotel kind of sucks, so i can not recommend it.
  23. agree 100%. Better options on Soi 11 are Citadines a bit further down, Grand Swiss in the alley by the Suk and Aloft. Citadines is about the same price and Grand Swiss not too much more.
