Recommended Posts

Bangkok is a city that evokes and oozes sensuality where crime, sex and greed walk hand in hand with exotica and seduction. For fans of crime, mystery and thriller novels based on this incredible city, its fascinating people and its seedy underbelly Wednesday 17th April (from 7.30pm till late: dinner & music from 6pm) is not to be missed “Bangkok Fiction: Night of Noir”.

Many of the finest master fiction authors will meet at the iconic Checkinn99 to share their stories and sign their latest editions. They include Christopher G. Moore, Dean Barrett, James Newman, Chris Coles, Thom Locke, John Gartland, Tom Vater all of whom have a strong following of readers and fans in and out of Bangkok.

Their skillful writing, likable characters, personal experience and knowledge of the city deemed as the 'Big Mango' creates the perfect atmosphere for mystery and thrills. You will see and feel the rawness and spirit of the city and atmosphere that they read their favourite book excerpts or explain their their art. Entertainment from Music of the Heart Band

No other bar in Bangkok is known of that claims to have been operating continuously as long as Checkinn99. Originally the Copacobana or just say The Copa opened in the late 50’s and pre-dates the Vietnam R&R period having been a favourite haunt of pioneer expats, special agents, military advisors, Peace Corps and USO entertainers such as Bob Hope all whom had fond memories of this iconic night entertainment venue.

For many years – that black smoked glass steel framed front door at the end of Sukhumvit’s most foreboding alley entrance ensured that Checkinn remained strictly a word of mouth bar – allowing time to pass whilst its character and decor remained unchanged over the last 56 years.
