As of last December the three main venues that I know of are Fortune Town, Pantip Plaza and MBK in order of quality. Fortune Town upper floors has the most branded computer store with a few workshop/repair types places. Pantip Plaza is a shadow of it’s former self, although talking to one of the stall holders it is looking to make a comeback after it’s foray into the food market seems to have failed. It felt like Pantip had the largest number of workshop/repair places. MBK is more around mobile phones, I felt, but they have some computer outlets so worth a look.

Bangkok prices I found were not much different from the rest of the world. Worth comparing prices on the internet before coming over.

where Bangkok has an advatage over the West, Japan and Korea is in the price of tech labor. hardware is about the same as elsewhere and the retailers seem to collude on prices, the same hardware is usually same price in every shop

totally agree that Pantip has faded. it's a ghost town taken over by big retailers who pretend they're separate shops but really aren't.

the repair guys way upstairs in Fortune are good. there are some shops that specialize in old/obscure laptop batteries, i think they're still around. also some good camera shops and even some high end audio if you poke around.

TO THE OP: in the area upstairs toward the direction of Lotus's (yeah that's what they call themselves now) there's a shop specializing in RAM. prices are reasonable and they don't charge to install it. so even though my day job is literally doing stuff like that, i have them install RAM upgrades and SSDs on my laptops. it's in the round section and on the left (facing Lotus's-ward) but i cna't remember exactly what floor.

I'll be coming to Bangkok in January and plan to get an upgrade to both RAM and SSD.  I think Fortune Town is my probable destination.  I've been browsing the website and see that none of the vendors have contact info other than telephone.  I was hoping to be able to arrange my requirements in advance since there's no guarantee that a vendor would have specific parts in stock (there are just too many). I don't want to leave my machines longer than it takes to open the box and swap the parts (and pay).

I've checked the cost of various parts for both Thailand and China (where I live).  The big difference is in the sales tax, which is about half in Thailand, as well as having a better chance of finding a vendor who speaks English.

Any advice with regard to a preferred vendor or contact info would be appreciated.

Thanks.  I did a price comparison already and I think the price differential is simply the difference in sales tax.  I'm coming to Bangkok anyway, so I've just added this item to my list.  I'm currently based in China and can't do anything here without my wife in tow as a translator.  Otherwise, I get foreigner special pricing and virtually no English-speaking vendors.

Yesterday I answered my own question about where to go for SSD and RAM upgrades.  In several threads I saw reference to Pro Corner plus one that said "something with Memory" in the name.  Both of these shops are on the 3rd floor of Fortune Town IT mall.
Even before finding the shop I was totally impressed with this mall.  If you're into music, photography or computers there's a shop for you.  Now back to topic.

I found Pro Corner quickly enough.  The shop is small and looked a bit messy.  Further down the same corridor is Memory Today.  Wow, bug, clean, lots of product and several employees head down over systems they were working on.  I didn't wait for service.  My laptop and requirements were evaluated in a few minutes.  An upgrade was planned, and while it was in progress I did some other shopping.
Got my 5-year-old laptop back after a bit over 2 hours.  RAM moved up from 8 GB to 32 GB.  SSD moved up from 128 GB to 2TB.  This old box boots up in 10 seconds now.

For major upgrades I'd definitely recommend Memory today.
