  1. May have been a duty free store employee fearing that they had made a mistake by not charging the right amount or forgetting to charge something, or a customs employee that realized too late that you may have brought in more than the acceptable limit (which I believe is one bottle). Of course that's just a guess, but I do admit it's odd.as Bangkok's main airport does not seem like the type of place that lets employees run in and out of secure areas to try and scam people... That part usually begin once you've left the airport or start taking 10 bath tuk tuks :P

It was a bag from Dubai duty free.

Wouldn't be the first time the airport has been known for scams:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8154497.stm

Or a taxi company looking for business hence her look when you went off in a car.

Defo customs girl, she was wearing a dark blue uniform Willow.

  2. Sorry if I wasn't clear, meant that it was strange that this happened AFTER "clearing customs", i.e. when customs should no longer have been a factor. And was the girl wearing some kind of offical uniform, that's the part I was curious about. While there are a still a few touts running around, I find that Bangkok airport is rather well organized for the most part.

Yes it was after the customs checking area in the hall, I had been to the ATM, and was slowly walking down when she came up to me.

Don't know what the scam was but she wanted to look in my duty free bags?

She was wearing a dark blue uniform....

  3. Technically, they don't call it "clearing customs" for nothing, so your story is indeed quite strange. And you say she was wearing a customs unif'

"clearing customs" to me is leaving the baggage hall and going through the "customs" area, where they have an x-ray machine.

So...what part of my story is indeed strange?

  4. I arrived this morning into Bkk, and I had a chauffeur drive booked with Emirates.

So after clearing customs and going to the ATM in the arrivals area (where people wait for incoming passengers) I was minding my own business walking down to gate 5 where the Emirates drivers hang out, until some customs girl ran up to me and started asking to look in my duty free bags!! To be clear this was well after the official customs check, out in the hall.

I just ignored her and carried on walking, but she kept asking to look in my bags! Once I reached the Emirates driver she seemed to give up but was glaring at me until I walked off to the car.

Don't know what the issue was, but no doubt some type of scam, so keep an eye out for her if you are inbound.

  5. Not so sure you guys know about the new taxi system in Bangkok Airport. Before, you went to the booths and the staffs wrote down the taxi driver's licence number on a form and told the driver where you were going. Now, all of the booths are gone. You line up, press a button to get a number and go the find the taxi. Not so sure how it works. I will go to Bangkok early next month. I will have a look at that new system. By the way, I found out that from the Pattaya forum

I am travelling back on Monday so will report back on the new system.

The link to PA thread if any one is interested (few complaints about scams already):

  6. Always get a bottle of wine for my condo when I am coming back in from my 4 weeks at work, as the price of good wine in Thailand is ridiculous!

Just be aware that you are only allowed to bring one bottle in, I know a couple of people have been stung with a fine bringing in too many ciggerattes and bottles of booze.

  7. I prefer the President Palace, which you can get for around 2100 baht.

A cheaper -but still very good option is the Citadines on Soi 11- - in your price range.  Next to Oscars, almost opposite Levels/Aloft hotel.

guest friendly as well… and comfortable.  I have stayed there a few times.

One last thought would be the Citadines on Soi 8 - directly across from Soi 11…a bit cheaper, guest friendly with a great 24 hour tuk tuk service to the Suk.

My only issue with Citiadines is the size of the beds, did you not find them too small compared to other hotel?  I think most of the beds in there are queen size...

  8. Kopite, you would hope that better sex education in Thailand (especially in schools), over the last six years, it might have reduced the number of younger girls willing to go without a condom (hopefully decreasing the transmisson rates).

However sure it wont be the case, a number of girls I have been with in Patts are willing/attempt to jump on you before you manage to bag up the little fella.

There is another thread going on the forum asking bareback or condom  hopefully this will be a wake up call for some of the bareback riders.......

  9. There is a thread on the hotel somewhere if you do a search.

I have stayed a few times (not for at least ayear though) and no real complaints about the place, good location.

Only downside is there is no pool, I eventually started to use the Dawin which is a little further up the road with a pool.

    Cheers

  10. Stayed at Heaven two times last month.

    Pros;

Reasonable price (first time around 1600, next time 1400)

Good location, 3-4 mins walk to Nana Plaza, also very close to the sky train

    Free fast Wifi

    Clean enough

    Cons,

    No pool

fairly small rooms (sure there are bigger suites to the rooms I stayed at)

I would stay there again, and have no problem recommending it.

  11. I use the Pharmacy next to Majestic Suites on Suk road......if your heading from Nana just turn left at the police box and its the first pharmacy on the left- they sell newspapers outside.

I usually pick up 4 Kamagra tablets at 400 baht I think!? Cant remember the price to be honest.

I normally wait until the place is empty before asking and they are normally discreet with it.

  12. Thought provoking first post!!

I am circumcised, and can't say there is any reduction in feeling, however I had it done when I was young!!

I am sure most of the big hospitals will carry out the procedure for you. I would think you would only be in hospital a day or two nowadays, but how long it takes to heal no idea, don't think there would be much mongering going on for a while lol
