Chiang Mai is worth visiting for their excellent zoo and other attractions. Mongering is available but nowhere near the levels of Bangkok and Pattaya. They have a few soapys, a few GoGo bars, and a bar scene on Loi Kroh road. I recommend the Raming Lodge for accommodations, good location and has a nice mongering ring to it. Best 3 Hotels Around Nana 1500bht~3000bht
Woody Woodpecker replied to Rock@BKK's topic in Hotels & Accommodations in Bangkok
Majestic Suites has rooms on the 5th floor overlooking the Plaza, this photo from 2010: Most of my stays there weren't recent, but I paid 944 baht for a room in November 2020, 750 baht two weeks later, and 570 baht in February 2021 (without international travel due to covid). -
Sounds like the New York’s Finest Taxi Service, from the movie The Usual Suspects. I once flew a trans-Atlantic flight to Amsterdam that arrived early, before 6 AM. There were no Immigration Officers on duty, maybe still having their coffee, so the entire flight walked in without being checked or stamped.

A discussion of American breakfast should include Buddy's Bar and Grill, four locations, this one at Soi 8. I live near by, just a stones throw. They also do a British breakfast (The Full Monty), and a Mexican breakfast, besides French toast and pancakes. (Unfortunately, IHOP didn't survive covid). Here's the Corned Beef Hash and eggs. Canter's Deli it wasn't, but I don't expect to find corned beef like that in Thailand. My biggest complaint was the dry toast, and the bottomless coffee cup isn't available anywhere in the Kingdom.

Bangkok Auto Salon 2023, with Sexy Car Wash

Best to use your phone camera for photos of bar fines, girls can become intimidated when you pull out a speed light. -
Christmas Dinner
Woody Woodpecker replied to Woody Woodpecker's topic in Restaurants, Places to Eat and nightlife
For Christmas Day (today), I considered Bourbon Street for 999++, but don't do buffets. Hemingway on Soi 11 offered a 3-course for 1200++,with optional free-flow for extra 999++ (a no-brainer), but I opted for Fitzgeralds on Soi Nana. Cod Chowder with Butterball turkey and honey glazed ham (was only interested in turkey), Saved 100 by skipping desert. Next stop, Soi Cowboy. Merry Christmas! -
Christmas Dinner

It was just OK -
This is what I had yesterday, crab and avocado salad with a dozen raw oysters and a few glasses of white wine, at Viva on Sukhumvit Soi 8. Later went over to Nana Burger for something to soak up the alcohol. Haven't decided where I'll go today yet. Anyone have a special meal planned?

Tex-Mex in BKK
Woody Woodpecker replied to defender1207's topic in Restaurants, Places to Eat and nightlife
Here's a new place, Molino, just opened on Soi 11. Had lunch there, a fish taco and a gringo taco, with passion fruit margaritas (buy one, get one free). It was tasty, thankfully the fried fish was cod and not Pangasius, and the margaritas had enough tequila to cop a good buzz. They're also open for breakfast. -
Rajah Alley closed

Yes, and the guard may hassle you if you look like you don’t know where you’re going. I didn’t walk through as there’s nothing on Soi 2 of interest to me but I did see others walking through. -

Rajah Alley closed

This alley had been closed for the past couple years due to construction but it’s open now. You can walk to the Doubletree from Soi 4 past this new Hotel Maison. -
Thanks for your review. I wondered about this place because I lived next door at the Trendy for seven years. They refurbished the lobby 3-4 years ago, looks far better than it used to. I usually stayed at Majestic Suites or Raumchit Plaza when booking a room at this price point.

I stayed there May of last year, paid 1175 per night without breakfast. Great location but the rooms are very small.

I’m off to Koh Chang today. It was great during covid, very few visitors and incredibly low rates. Still good, this is my third visit this year.

I found her at a GoGo on Soi Cowboy but haven’t seen her since (I’d bar fine again).

A quiet, guest-friendly, 3-star hotel with a pool I would recommend is Rembrandt Suites on Soi 20, an 8-10 minute walk up the Soi. You can get a room with a kitchenette, including microwave and washing machine, if you want to pay a little more. Another 5 minute walk, away from Sukhumvit, and you can enjoy the best ribs in Thailand, at the Smokin Pug's new location.

Hotel in Sukhumvit with a good city view
Woody Woodpecker replied to smurf7's topic in Hotels & Accommodations in Bangkok
Royal Orchid Sheraton is less than 20 minute walk to Saphan Taksin BTS, Shangri-La and Lebua are less than 10 minutes. -
Hotel in Sukhumvit with a good city view
Woody Woodpecker replied to smurf7's topic in Hotels & Accommodations in Bangkok
Here are some places I've stayed where I'd recommend the view. Hyatt Regency has been mentioned Personally, I prefer the Sofitel, which also has a rooftop bar. They gave me a corner room on the 25th floor Not a great view at JW Mariott, but at least you can see Nana Plaza. There are better views on the Riverside IMHO, and it's just a BTS ride from Saphan Taksin station. For example, the Royal Orchid Sheraton, but I should have gotten a room on the east side to see the nightly fountain show at IconSiam mall across the river. Unfortunately, there are no balconies. The Shangri-La The Lebua has a Michelin starred restaurant on the 64th floor. More towards Patpong is the Banyan Tree. I could see the river from my room, and they also has a rooftop restaurant -
This auto show was abbreviated this year, only four days, but great to have it back at Impact Challenger, the world's largest column-free exhibition hall with a combined column-free space of 60,000 sqm, although only one of the three interconnecting halls were in use for this event. This is more of a custom car show and attendance was light, but I'm sure there were more attendees on the weekend. Lots of great cars, first time I've seen a Tesla at a car show, although I've seen them on the street. The hottest car I saw was the Shelby Mustang convertible. I don't believe it was for sale. The metallic Porsche was interesting too, but I don't know if I'd do this to my Porsche. There were some bad paint jobs too. At a car show in Thailand, of course there were lots of pretties, the main reason I chose to attend. Two thumbs up for the Fuchs Girl! 👍👍 Video games were set up for the kids Meanwhile, highlight of the event is the Sexy Car Wash Show I usually don't shoot video but I wanted to test how my camera could shoot stills while recording video simultaneously. An inventory of the gear I took along, over $6,000 worth. A fun way to spend several hours. Cheers
