  1. Almost every hotel in the SC/Nana area is guest friendly. Personally, I would recommend picking a place as close as possible - ie, walking distance with lady. That way, no need for taxi cheats or tuk tuks or any nonsense.

If you're looking at the higher end of the baht, Majestic Suites ($70us), and Landmark ($100us) are good for Nana. Both are an easy walk. Don't have to worry about tuk tuks and such.

For Soi Cowboy, The Continent and Grande Sukhumvit are both very nice, about $100us. Sukhumvit Suites and Jasmine City are overpriced for what you get, in my opinion.

And in between SC and Nana, of course, you have Sofitel, Sheraton, etc... but that might be a bit of a walk with a lady.

  2. It seems to escalate:

Should I be concerned about my about upcoming trip? Occupation of the Budget Bureau seems a little bit more serious than just a peaceful protest.

Yes, it is getting a bit dodgy now. If you're only here for mongering and staying close to SC or Nana, no issues yet. But if you want to get out across the city, you may be delayed. Bangkok Post put the crowd number at Democracy Monument around 400,000. There's no way to gather that many people without disruptions. The next few days will probably indicate how this whole thing will play out.

  3. It should be no more than 300 baht. Remember, coming FROM the airport when you just arrive, 50 baht surcharge. Going TO the airport when leaving, no surcharge.

I've found there's no problem to get a metered taxi to the airport any time, day or night. It's the stupid 2km trips where the drivers want to demand a set price from you. If some a-hole wants to tell you 500 baht to the airport, just wave him off and get the next one.  Airport trips are the bread and butter for most drivers. They know they aren't gonna waste an hour in traffic for a 45 baht fare and most seem to love getting out onto the highwway and opening that throttle up.

  4. That's the one. I've also heard some fun times at Sacha's Hotel Uno on soi 19 and Dawin on soi 4.  Both those places I've found the clientele rather amusing because there are really only 2 kinds - the single guy and the young couples who apparently didn't know the proximity to the fun zones. The couples all look the same... female has her nose up in the air in perpetual fake "disgust" and the guy has the look of a dog who's been beat too much.

  5. If I were to book a room for one person in a GF-friendly hotel, can I still bring a girl back to my room? Or will they charge me?

I've never had a problem with this. No one has ever charged me, most just keep the girl's ID at front until she leaves.

That's a pretty extensive list of GF hotels.
