  1. Old thread, but since it's the only one I found that mentions the massage shops on Sumhumvit 79 I thought I'd reuse it. First off, earlier posts in this thread seem to be confusing Soi 79 with Soi 77/1. Soi 79 is the one at 7/11 that also hosts the restaurant "Cafe di Maria", while Soi 77/1 is the one going up to BigC, lined with massage shops left and right. Have been countless times to various shops on Soi 77/1, never as much as a hint of any extras (tried "everything" - one hour, one and a half hour, two hours oil massage. Most often showered before the massage, as initially I thought that might be a "secret code" for "extras please". Nothing. But great massages! There are currently three massage shops on Soi 79, all three are right next to each other just 20 meters into the soi. Have tried both Chiang Mai (the first one) and Tree Massage (the third one). On my first visit to Chiang Mai Massage I had "Da", and I got a good oil massage. She also mentioned "in a few days the rooms upstairs will be finished renovating... big rooms, with walls, you know *hint hint*". That, plus the fact that she suggested one hour was "too short", seemed to make it clear that there were extras to be had (didn't ask though and wasn't flat out offered). Next I tried Tree Massage. Got a very good oil massage here too, and went for one and a half hour. After about 1 hour and 15 minutes I got offered a HJ but declined since I didn't really feel like it and my masseuse was an older lady. Now the puzzling part. I was about to try Takrai Hom (the middle shop) but changed my mind when I saw a cute massage girl sitting outside Chiang Mai Massage, so I went there instead. As usual (for me anyway), it didn't matter that I had my eyes fixed on the cute girl while walking up there and I even asked her personally for an oil massage, but still got the usual "inside please" and she didn't seem to get that I was interested in getting her to do the massage. I find this happens all the time with these more "normal" massage shops. Anyway, inside there is a very friendly lady owner whos demeanor basically yelled out "extra services". She starts off by asking me if I would like any particular massage therapist, and before I even answer she suggests "the small lady outside, maybe?". Then as we head upstairs she gives the old "enjoy your massage", making it seem like one of "those other types" of massage places... At this point I'm 100% confident about the outcome. But it turns out the massage is really great, one of the best massages I've had in a long time, but there is never any hint whatsoever of any "extras". And I'm not into asking for these things, as for me one of the most thrilling parts of the "extra service" at a "normal" massage shop is that it shouldn't be 100% guaranteed, and it should be offered as a "surprise" by the massesuse. Otherwise one might just as well go to any of the shops on Sukhumvit Soi 22 or 24/1, but that takes away some of the suspense. So I'm still puzzled why no extra service was offered even though there were a lot of indications that it probably would... maybe I'll have to try again another time :)
