Is the Mercure actually open? And is the Starbucks open as well?
thanks
i walk through soi 11 at beginning of September and the hotel was in refurbishment. No more sign of Starbucks in the lobby.

for the reviews i see on the net probably is better to use this hotel only as St Hotel. it seems that rooms are a little bit old and the hotel need a refresh.

Regarding Phangan, if you know some peoples that live there and can introduce you to the private partys they do in some villas, that would be very cool. The Full Moon party is not anymore the same of some years ago. As you say too many kids etc etc.
Aside from that there are a lot of beautiful beaches to go and places to see

more or less the prices are the same in all thailand for hotels, food and also for girls. you can find small difference that not affect your holidays

This time last year i got 52 B to the £.
Now it's 44.5 B to the £ (that's with the recent resurgence, it was lower)
If exchanging £1000 that's a difference of 7500B. So i would say the resurgence isn't quite good enough. That being said it's not stopped my plans for this trip, but does give me pause on frequency of return visits as the difference will start to mount up over multiple visits.

How this climb on the Thai Baht against the main currencies is affecting your travel plans to LOS?
Are you going short periods?
Do you save in hotels?
More meals on food courts?
I have the sensation that every single visit I have less value for money.( Probably I'm getting older)
Any thoughts will be appreciated and any ideas to have more fun without breaking the budget.
Regards,
My sensation is quiet the same...every year our poor euro have less value

Probably the more quiet zone in Samui to stay with family is the Fisherman Village in BoPhut. Good beach, nice restaurants and no playng zone
