  1. Yes virtually all airlines give out vouchers like the one in the photo above to business and first class passengers. make sure that if they do not hand them out on the plane that you ask. Sometimes they forget to load them, but they should be able to call ahead and get someone to meet the plane and hand them out.

Note that Thai have a separate system for their First and Business passengers, they do not give out vouchers. They have their own separate Fast Track desks and you have to show your boarding pass

The best I have had was last month in Jakarta flying business class with Garuda. When you leave the country you don't even go to an immigration counter. They direct you straight to the business lounge after check-in and a girl takes your passport. 10 minutes later she brings it back with the exit stamp. Not sure how that works when they don't see you in person.

  2. Used Agoda. had a problem with the booking on dates - totally my fault - called the guys and they worked out everything. The site said I was to pay regardless, but they took care of it. I told the guy that it was my fault and would pay the price, but he said I do lots of hotels with them so he talked to the staff over the phone and they all agreed to let me slide! It was cool and the result is I will continue to do business there.

I had a problem with Agoda in February when the hotel I booked for 9 nights in Phuket was fully booked and would not accept my Agoda pre-paid booking. They put us in a far inferior hotel and when I complained to Agoda on my return all they offered was a 10% discount on my NEXT booking. They asked me for a review later but did not publish it. I think they only like good reviews.

  3. nothing wong with your approach of trying out different hotels, but in my opinion Banyan Tree was rather old and outworn, service from hotel hotel was rater subpar standard, not really friendly, breakfast was ok, but nothing special, but you still pay premium rates for a 5 star hotel.

The hotel still benefits from its reputation from the past, but that's it.

So many awesome new hotels that proivde both great accomodation and service: (in no given order) W, Sofitel So, Sofitel Sukhumvit, Okura, Hansar, Oriental Residence, S 31 and probably many more.

But this is just my preference, YMMV

I agree. Have not stayed there for a couple of years, but it was starting to look a bit worn. The suites only concept is good, and all the new age stuff really wows the TGs (completely GF by the way) but there is better value at that price.

  4. bangkok is very safe , but as long as you stick around the tourist areas and not some unknown dodgy suburbs late at night , crime happens in bangkok just like any city in the world ,just be aware and dont wander off with anyone you dont know , by that i mean males or thai guys trying to scam you in something, if your staying in 4 star hotels all good as well...

if you follow the rules all will be ok ,

Sukhumvit between Asoke and Soi 3 used to have a bad reputation for ladyboy pickpockets late at night - usually working in pairs. Not sure what it's like now.

  5. Somewhat depends on your lead time. You can get admission to Cambodia by showing up at the border, either overland or at the airport, with your passport and $20USD. Getting a Vietnamese visa takes a bit longer, probably going through one of the travel kiosks in town. Dont try to show up in Vietnam and expect to get an immediate visa. At least that has been the story the past few times that I looked into it.

You can get a visa on arrival in Vietnam if you have a letter of introduction. This is easily obtained from these guys

Much easier than going to the VN embassy in BKK as you can do it all online and you don't have to give up your passport.
