  1. If you like to stay (or eat) at Accore brand hotels (Sofitel, Pullman, Mercure, Novotel, All Seasons, Ibis, Formula 1) in Asia you really should sign up for thier discount program - Accor Advantage Plus/ Asia. It cost something like 5000 baht to sign up but it pays for itself really quickly. Benifits: 1) Discounts on dinning - ranging from 25% off if you dine alone, up to 50% off when dinning with others 2) Discounted nights at all their hotels - prices can be accessed via the web or via a phone call 3) Automatic entry into the A/Club points club at silver status for the get go 4) Various other discounts on services offered at the hotels (conference rooms, fitness clubs, massage laundry, business center, etc) On top of that you get one free night to use at any of the hotels on pretty much any date. An example of the rates one can get for this hotel: Deluxe Suite: Without the membership: $83.68 USD (including tax, but no breakfast) - roughly 2845 baht/night With the membership: $37.65 USD (including tax, but no breakfast) - roughly 1280 baht/night Now this is a pretty extreme example - saving over 50% - most cases the savings are less. I just took a trip to Beijing for business and I was able to stay in a suite for about 10% less than the rest of the crew from my company were booked into standard rooms - at a Novotel. http://www.accorhotels-asia.com/advplus/default.aspx OK, so I don't know what happened but the member price of $37.65 is no longer availible - not even close. But member rate I get now is $75.31 (2560 baht).
  2. There are tons of hotels in that area. An easy way to get an idea of what is availible and where they are try the Agodaweb site: http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/bangkok.html Pick any hotel in the Silom/Sathorn/Sala Daeng area, then click on the map on the Agoda page for that hotel. You'll get a decent map of the area with all the hotels that Agoda carries. There are only a few in the area that would be more than $100 per night (Banyan Tree certainly will be more). Center Point Saladaeng Marriott Executive Apartments Sathorn Fraser Suites Sathorn Swiss Lodge Are all less than $100 USD. Right now witht the low occupancy rates of many hotels I don't think you'll have a problem getting a room at the Dusit Thani for less than $100 per night either. Dusit Thani
  3. I don't know about Dynasty Grand, but in the past most hotels were not willing to even match the prices one could get thru the discount web-sites. Now many will not only match the prices but are willing to offer even better prices if you are there in person and willing to walk out if they don't go a bit lower - in both BKK and Patts.
  4. If you were coming to BKK right now it might not be a bad idea to wait until you get here to arrange your hotel. A mate of mine just returned home from a trip here and all he booked was his first night, then he popped into a few hotels the next day and bargined a good rate. Many of the hotels are willing to bargin because of very low occupancy right now. But I don't know if I would risk it come xmas time.

  6. I don’t know if it is the same hotel as in the documentary, but there is a “Rose Hotel” over near the Silom area: http://www.rosehotelbkk.com/overview.html Not a bad place to stay if you will spend much of your time over in the Silom area or in Patpong. But if you are more interested in the Nana or Cowboy areas there are plenty of better and closer hotels to those areas.
