  1. I have read that some of the lower priced rooms in the Nana Hotel (Soi 4) have no windows. That would not appeal to me at all. Like sleeping in a cave.
  2. Keep in mind that if you are flying on from Bangkok, you will not be able to take your duty free liquor with you on your next flight. I understand that you are restricted to 100 ml of liquid in you carry on luggage. I neighbour of mine was complaining that they had a couple of bottles of expensive duty free booze taken from them when they transferred to a flight down to Phuket.
  3. It's really good to have this sort of information on the forum. There are scammers around and being warned about them gives you a chance to avoid them. I am always a bit concerned about going into places with pushy street touts outside. I think that it's best to avoid them.
  4. I stayed in the Majestic Grand hotel on my last trip. It has undergone a major renovation and the rooms are nice. Its in a central position on Soi 6 just off Soi 4. Guest friendly.
  5. If all you want to do is make some phone calls, you can pick up unlocked basic keypad phones quite cheaply. Just drop a sim card in and they work fine. Still I know that it would spoil the holiday for some people if they did not have the companionship of their sophisticated smart phone.
  6. I believe that Samui is certainly worth a 5 day stay. I've been there twice myself. My favourite place to stay is Lamai beach. The beach is nice and the shopping centre has plenty of restraints and bars.
  7. Bangkok taxi drivers can be a real pain. I find being asked for more than the fare they have agreed to particularly annoying. I don't mind tipping but I don't like being scammed like that. Even being quoted several times the correct fare because your a tourist gets a bit much. I find most Thai people pleasant enough but a lot of the taxi drivers display a bad attitude towards tourists.
  8. I just can't eat the ultra sweet Thai bread most places serve for breakfast. Anyone know of somewhere in the Nana Asoke area when I can purchase good non sugared bread? That would make for a big improvement in my Bangkok breakfasts.
  9. I've always found the food at Hanahans Pub on Soi 4 to be realy good.
  10. I've heard that there is some contruction work going on at the Dynasty Grand in Soi 6 near Nana. Has anybody heard anything on whether this is likely to be going on for some time? I'd prefer not to book in until all the work is finished. Any information would be appreciated.
