  1. I ended up applying for tourist visa which is valid for 60 days only cost 1100 baht easier and cheaper.

Glad you got it all worked out and enjoy your vacation!

  2. Hello Kimao,

thanks for the response -- I am wondering if you know the specific "tourist areas" you mentioned on your post. The last tourist area I have been in Bangkok was the Grand Palace and Khaosan road. Certainly, these aren't the right places.

My apologies, my post was tongue in cheek. The touristy bar areas will always have Thai guys advertising to take you to a ping pong show, or in their imperfect English to 'Show!!! Ping Pong!!'

Meaning of course the sex shows (famous for girls shooting ping pong balls with their pussies)

A different kind of fun, but bring your paddle and you'll get a laugh. :)

  3. Hi, I have a longer question about things to do in Bangkok on the general discussions thread but here is a specific question about live music and especially traditional/contemporary Thai music. Are there places where they have decent live Thai music in Bangkok? Any recommendations are most appreciated.

Here is place with live Thai music, dances and shows. Have a look, not sure if it fits the bill for what you want.

  4. Do you need to get a business visa if you are going to do some business in-country or can you just get a tourist visa and use that?

Technically, yes. You are coming for business not tourism so of course you need that class of visa.

Does anyone do that for the situation you describe? Probably very few.

Many people live and work full time in Thailand on just a tourist visa, albeit illegally.

For your situation it isn't going to raise any flags or seem suspicious at all.

  5. Hi please excuse my ignorance but can you just get a visa on arrival into Bangkok as I need as staying over the 30 days. I am just trying find easiest way. I am a New Zealander so get 30 days but need 35 days.

    Help appreciated

You can check if this applies to NZ, but for US passport holders you get 30 days on arrival visa waiver if you arrive by air rather than land (you don't have to apply in advance).

You can then go to the immigration office on day 28-30 and pay 1900BT for a 7 day extension. This would get you your 35 needed days without leaving or overstaying.
