I use AIS 1,2 call prepaid. 350 baht for 1GB usage. You can check data remaining by dialing *121*3# just save it as a contact. Dtac prepaid will get you about the same according to their website. This is a great restaurant. I've been numerous times and always had fantastic food. Couple real cute waitresses worked there a few months ago. Not sure if they are still there. Met one on the BTS and then later that night ended up eating with a girl there and saw her again. (Didn't know she worked there until I saw her there)

I too am learning to read and write, although I haven't been putting much time into it of late. I started at the very beginning (a very good place to start) and purchased flash cards of all the consonants with pictures to associate with the letters. I memorized how to read and pronounce these first then learned to write them by using children's lined notebooks that are made for repetition with guides on how to correctly write each character. After I had the consonants down I started on the vowels. Any of these learning aides can be bought at any bookstore and are very cheap. The old school text for Thai children learning Thai is called Manee Manaa and is a series of small stories written about a boy and girl living on a farm with the introduction of new words in each chapter. Search google and you can download a PDF for free. I have the original Thai version as well as an English transliteration on my computer. Could maybe upload it but not sure if its copyrighted material.

I like baan rai as well, but they are not similar at all. I put off going to Tawandang for quite a while, but after spending an evening there about two weeks ago I'll be back within the month for sure. I had about 5 dishes between the 3 of us and was pleased with them all. The shows weren't anything spectacular, but just created a fun atmosphere. It seems like a place foreigners would really love, but I was the only white guy there during my visit. At Sirocco they will ask if you want dinner or just drinks. Tell them you want the sky bar. Worth a drink to enjoy the view and have a Hangover moment (the drink named the hangover martini wasnt great) but it can often be quite crowded and kills the atmosphere a bit.

Don't waste your money! I went there and spent over 20,000 baht on dinner and A drink with 3 friends. The view is amazing. The food was awful. On topic- albeit many moons too late for the OP- German microbrewery and live show at Tawandang. Amazing food, great beer (3L towers) fun show and overall great atmosphere

I drive a click 125i as well and have been stopped probably 4 times. Paid the same as Thai people, 100-200 baht, generally half or less than the face value of the ticket. Each time I was stopped they told me what I was doing wrong and the reasons were never fabricated. I've also passed the same check points doing everything correctly (helmet, stay to the left even though that's where they setup the road blocks) and haven't been stopped. It's a shitty system and annoys me that they wear face masks and big sunglasses so they don't end up on YouTube or Facebook like a few have, but then again I was in the wrong each time. Most people do enough traffic violatioms the cops dont need to fabricate reasons. Each time I've been stopped there were plenty of Thais getting the same treatment. Wish more violations were corrected to be honest. My buddy drives a big Ducati all over bangkok and only got stopped once. I don't think they could catch him on their little piece of shit bikes anyways but I wouldn't want to test them on my 125cc haha.

Update 8/5/13 Went to the pharmacy near nana around 2am. The large one was closed so I went to the smaller one closer to macdonalds. Asked for Zpack- they didn't have but had various similar options. I got Azycin 6 caps 250mg Azithromycin. Cost, 150 baht Asked for Imitrex (migraine med) they had Imigran 50 mg sumatriptan 2 tablets. 300 baht. Asked for Apcalis (Thai brand cialis) they had real cialis (2,000 baht) and Sidegra, Sildenafil (Viagra) 100mg 4 tablets 180 baht. I opted for the cheap one and will try it out.

They also rent for short time and I have used it for taking a waitress from The Game. I agree it was clean and spacious enough for the task at hand and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Can't recall the exact price but it was inline with other ST places. If I expected another round later I would have just gotten the nightly rate as it isn't much more expensive.

What type of visa are they getting you for one year? After you have the visa you can apply for a multiple re-entry permit for something like 5k at immigration without their help. Are you sure they aren't just offering to do that portion for you? I have a friend who used Siam Legal for his wife and children who go to school here. They charged him about 30k and the wife still had to fill out all the paperwork and go to immigration with their 'helper'. He wasn't thrilled but didn't know how to do it himself. I got my triple entry converted to a Non B for learning Thai (good for 90 days) and a 1 year (no need to leave every 90 days) visa extension for a total of 15 months and I didn't need to leave Thailand to get it converted or do visa runs, just 90 day reporting. This is done like a University student... Not a risk everyone wants and costs 30-35k (also got a proof of residency paper for my 5 year Thai drivers license) but it sure beats the visa runs which I was getting tired of

Wat Po is the most famous school of massage but general advice for finding a good (non sexual) massage- find the oldest and burliest masseuse at any parlor outside of a tourist area and she will probably be amazing. I've got one in ladprao who is just awful to look at but she has been doing it for over 30 years and almost makes me cry she is so fucking good. It you want a real Thai massage tell them they can't hurt you and go strong. Like Thai food, they think most foreigners can't handle the heat of the real deal.

Gonna be a bit tough to find an apartment that wants to rent out for only 3 weeks in that area for 25k I think because the going rate for someone who has a 6-12 month lease and 3 months deposit is 25k and up up up for a decent apartment. Have you checked Craigslist or couch surfer type sites? You might luck out and find someone who will be gone that same period and wants to just do a short term rental. 25k for 21 days is 1100 per day so you might need to sacrifice the location you have in mind or get a cheap hotel that will discount you a bit for a long stay. Hope you find something that works out.

My apologies, my post was tongue in cheek. The touristy bar areas will always have Thai guys advertising to take you to a ping pong show, or in their imperfect English to 'Show!!! Ping Pong!!' Meaning of course the sex shows (famous for girls shooting ping pong balls with their pussies) A different kind of fun, but bring your paddle and you'll get a laugh. :)

There are a lot of Thai guys in the tourist areas who play. They must love it because they always shout that they want to show ping pong to anyone who will watch.
