So I stayed here last month.

Pros: room quite big, bed is very soft (for those of you who like soft beds this is better than St Regis Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency).

Extremely well located if you prefer Soi Cowboy or Thermae and not far from Nana either.

Gym is big, nice sauna too.

Hanging around the pool during the day is excellent.

Cons: bathroom very tired, blue ceramic wall tiles are mouldy (but was obviously too expensive to replace on their recent very limited refurbishment).

On balance (and for the same price) I would stay at St Regis or Hyatt Regency.

They have a cigar lounge and a bar downstairs where you can supposedly pick up quality freelancers but it was dead when I checked it out.

Thanks for your review.  I'm still on tap for my Feb trip and will split my time between here and the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park, which I have stayed at before.

  2. Anybody know what happened to Bangkok Redeye Website?  The guy was posting information and updates on a regular basis, and he all of a sudden seems to have gone away.  I did send him an e-mail through his website, and didn't get an answer.  He sight was very informative, and I looked forward to the updates.  Was also hopping he would do a section about Kapoo Clubs.  Miss his updates!!

  3. When  was there last September, I ran into a gentleman whi had flown in from Saudi Arabia, just to have testing done at Bumrungrad.  He said it was far superior and far cheaper than any care he could get in SA.  My local friend in BKK verified that as well, and said that you could go in 1 day and over a 3 day period get every test in the book at a great price.  I have not experienced it firsthand, but people who have rave about the Medical, and Dental Care in Thailand.

  4. First time visiting in the month of July Will be there the 9th - 17th.  I was there in August last year and it was hot and rainy, so I am expecting the same, but there still were plenty of ladies last year.  I'll be at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit for 3 nights, and Marriot Marquis Queen's Park for 5 nights, and would love to hook up with any fellow mongers if you are in town.

  5. Marriott Elite Member (Platinum and above) get

    - Free Breakfast (They have a special Executive breakfast for elites in Rossini's but you can also go to the main buffet)

    - Free Tea and coffee in the living room or room service all day

    - Free cocktails 4pm to 8pm in Bar Su,  6pm to 8pm in the Living Room (food options are quite limited compared to most lounges, just some small snacks)

    - Buttler Service

    - 2 pieces of free laundry per day

-Upgrade to better room if available (unfortunately upgrades to suites are rare these days as they are too popular)

    - 4pm late check out guaranteed

Thanks for the info.  I actually got a contact at the Hotel and they are setting me up pretty nicely.  Since I am also a Travel Agent, they are going to have me meet with their Sales people and the GM, and give me a nice tour of the property.  Looking forward to staying there at least for part of my July trip.

  6. I am a Platinum Elite with Marriott, an dthey have great benefits at the JW and the Queen's Park in the Lounge.  Like 2-3 meals a day and Free Cocktails.  Hard to pass up, but I would like to try the Sheraton Grand for a couple of nights on my next trip.  Anyone have knowledge if they have an Executive Lounge, and if so, what service do they have there?

    Thanks!

  7. Last week while I was in BKK, I booked a Tour of the River area and China Town, using Patti at www.thaitravelcorner.com.  I found her on Craig's List, so I wasn't sure if she is a legit Tour Operator or not.  I also am a Travel Agent, and have a couple of clients coming to BKK in the next couple of months, so I wanted to check her out.  She is not licensed, but in my mind that is a good thing, as her prices are great.  She is also willing to take clients to the night spots such as Nana and Cowboy.  So, she would be great for 1st time visitors to BKK.  She has lived in BKK most of her life, and knows the area inside out.  She is a very pretty MILF, and you will be tempted, but she is not available for more than her tour Guide gig.  So, if you want to enjoy the sights in BKK, look Patti up.  A great price, and a really nice lady who knows her stuff.

I forgot to also add, that transfers to/from the airport are also available.

  9. The tailor that I used (Royal Tailors) was the best I had found in BKK, but has changed his shop to a sandal shop on the corner of Soi 4.  But his sister and nephew run Hermann's Tailor on Sukhumvit near Soi 4.  He also said that Majestic Suites across the street is excellent quality.  Prices are great vs the US, but not cheap by BKK standards.  But, he quality of the fabrics, and the workmanship is 1st Class.

  10. I've stayed at this Hotel quite a few times over the years, but haven't been in BKK for 5 years.  Overall location to Nana, makes this a good place to stay.  The staff remains Top Notch, but the Hotel is starting to show a little wear & tear.  It is going through remodeling, and I do think that it needs that.  The room I am in on the Executive Floor has not been remodeled, and it is due.

After staying at the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park, the JW is a little bit of a disappointment.  For the money, I would stay at the Marquis.  If location is the primary reason, then the JW is fine.

I have almost 3,000 nights at Marriott, so I have seen quite a few.

  11. Spent the 1st 3 nights of my BKK trip at the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park.  Have to say, being a Platinum Elite Member has its advantages.  Upgraded to a very nice Suite, the service and amenities are terrific.  Full Breakfast, Nice Lunch, and Light Snacks and Deserts at Dinner, along with Cocktails, all included in the Executive Lounge.  Nice Pool and Gym, and the Staff was terrific.  The Hotel also has an excellent Bar on the 37th and 38th floors with entertainment.  Great spot to take your lady for a nice niightcap.  The Hotel is also Girl Friendly.

The next 5 nights will be at the JW Marriott, which has always been my stop in BKK.  I'll report on that later this week, but it will be hard to top this place.
