  1. I have no intention of driving in Bangkok

I plan to rent a small bike when I get out and away from the big cities and wanted to stay above board so went and got my IDP here in Canada, it cost $30 and took about 30 minutes.

I am still a little concerned about "other" drivers in Thailand.

I am hearing many people drive drunk which is not cool.

I think I will play it by ear and ride if I feel comfortable enough.

I have been riding motorcycles for over 50 years so it's not my ability I am worried about.

    Cheers

It might not go well, but you won't know that until you arrive. You might think everything is fine with a reservation you made over the phone, but the language barrier and human error enter the picture if you try to book by phone.

Thats fair, I will likely just try and book through an agent. Either way I am sure things will work out one way or another.

    Your input is appreciated.

    Cheers

    Online.

Check at least Agoda and probably Expedia.

Some large Western brands might give you something for frequent customers if you book directly.  But you have to have racked up a few (dozen) stays with their rewards to bother.

It's usually the same price anywhere.  And Agoda and Expedia are generally very reliable, and have agents available.  There can be some limits on what you can change if you do a pay now deal (usually cheaper than paying when you check out), which kinda puts it on you to not fuck up, but hotels are usually a little forgiving if you talk to them directly.

I'm sure the vast majority of hotel reservations are done electronically in most of the world. Every company that has employees traveling is using a corporate travel agent who does all this through the same systems Expedia and Agoda are using. (or are using Expedia or Agoda directly as the corporate travel, cause I know at least Expedia does that).

Do remember to get a very exact hotel name and address printed out to bring with you. Makes sure the Taxi knows where you going. There are several places with very similar names and several chains with multiple hotels that aren't far apart.  But, really, I've been in 100's of hotels and showed up at the wrong one once or twice, it's no big deal, they'll usually sort you out once they realize it wasn't their mistake to try and cover up.

Thats some great and helpful information right there. Much appreciated.

I will likely use Agoda, especially considering they take calls.

I am old school and just prefer talking to people.... in case I have questions.

    Thanks again for the input.

    Have an awesome day!

I'm traveling a lot for business. I'm from France, and we have lot of ALL-ACCOR hotel here. So I'm using hotels from ALL brands when traveling to BKK, which is easy to book on the phone apps. It gives sometimes good deals, and prices are usually lower than booking/agoda .. for same service. Or you get better service like breakfast included. But no problem to book through online agencies.

Fair and thanks.... when you say booking using phone apps. What apps are you meaning specifically? Is Agoda not a phone app?

Considering how cheap LOS hotels are post-Covid, I see nothing wrong with using the online agencies like Agoda or hotels.com. I've done two three week long trips to Thailand and had zero problems with booking ahead of time. As a newbie, there's no reason to make things more stressful than they need to be. It's easy enough to pick good places to stay using the reviews here and on Pattaya Addicts as a guide. Before my trips, I read all of Lottellee Winna's reviews on PA, which were a big help.

I often see newbies trying to reinvent the wheel, asking about obscure hotels there are no reviews of. There's a reason people recommend certain places over and over again and that's because they can be counted on to be good.

Thank you, I definitely have no intention of re-inventing the wheel.

I have made notes of the recommended places and going to just simply short list it to the one's that have what I am looking for and will book.

I may however try to book by phoning them directly to see how that goes.

    Thanks

  6. This may be a real dumb question but I honestly haven't ever travelled over seas so I am going to ask anyhow.

When booking a hotel what seems to be the best method, on line, through an agent or can you actually call them direct and speak to someone in english to get it done?

    Thanks for any info

    Cheers

Stayed at Alt Nana for 4 nights at the start of August in an Alt Deluxe Suite. Booked through Agoda and got it for AU$44 a night (1090THB) a night). Superior rooms are available for AU$32 (800THB a night). Smoking not allowed in some rooms but okay on balcony’s.

Its located 850 meters away from Nana Plaza. They run a free Tuktuk from about 8.00am to 2.00am.

Price i paid included breakfast for 2 people. Breakfast was a buffet, few Asian dishes, bread, fruit, tea/coffee, juices. Eggs cooked to order available on request along with ham and sausages. I took a LT down for breakfast once and there was no additional fee.

Is guest friendly. I asked if they take ID’s and they said yes. I bought 3 girls back. Only one was asked for ID. I think it depends which staff member is working reception. I found all staff to be friendly and polite.

Its not strictly a mongers hotel. As its good value for money and centrally located you do get some civilians, families and back packers staying there. I loved the look on a young backpacker couples faces as i walked out one morning with a tattoed, rather skanky Lust de jour.

Its  split among 2 buildings. Main part housing reception is building A while Building B (about 20metres away) contains the pool and gym and other rooms.

The suite I had was clean, well furnished, good air con, decent sized safe, lots of hot water, comfortable bed etc.

Some of the furnishings are a little dated but for the money I think the place is an absolute bargain.

The website https://www.altnana.com/ has a few good package deals.

Thanks for that, this place looks like a win for sure.

I think I just found my first accommodation.

  8. Greetings all,

I will be arriving in BKK late November and have a month to check out Thailand.

I apologize up front as I have another question with nothing to report yet as this is my first trip to LOS, however I will be sure to contribute reviews and information once I have it.

In the mean time I am asking for advice those are well Travelled  throughout Thailand.

What would your top 6 spots/destinations within Thailand be, I have my own list but would love to hear from others of great spots to see... both for the culture and the ladies.

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

You're looking at a thread that's mostly 6 years old. Any current info would be appreciated.

Yes, I see the thread start date is old, most recent post was 2020.

I have no new information as I have not been there yet, however I have noticed a lot of nice looking ladies on TF that appear to be  in this area.

I am chatting with one, had a video chat and she is verified... not a "working girl" but damn cute. I am going to see how the conversation progresses and if all is good it might be worth a trip to the northeast for a visit or two.

I will share any finding for sure.

    Cheers

  10. Hmmm, some great info here as like a few other I was considering heading to Udon for an adventure. Mainly because I met an extreme cutey off TF and she lives there. Not a working girl but beautiful and seems open to meeting a foreign man for fun.

So now I am torn as I was hoping to check the rest of the Udon scene... there are several lookers on TF from there so I am still holding out hope.

If I make it there I will be sure to report back!!

The far i went was deep fried grasshoppers, and i loved it. That goes fine with some beers, i think. Larva and scorpions, well, not yet.

Good for you, I am adventurous but will likely stick to meat, noodles and the semi regular stuff.

With that said I did eat a plate of grasshoppers with nachos in Mexico one time.... was drunk so didn't seem all that sketchy.

Flying over the pacific from North America puts you in Bangkok around midnight local time (at apt or hotel by 1:30am.  After that 21-27 hours traveling as a younger man i would be heading out immediately.   Now, getting some sleep and starting fresh in the morning has it's adavantages.

Agreed, after nearly a full day of flying I am sure a good rest will be needed.

I will just play it by ear and see how I feel... might be running on some adrenalin for a while...LOL

  13. Great topic,

I have no idea what I will do specifically but likely check things out at the airport, take my time absorbing the environment then find a cab I guess and off to the hotel to check in then.... honestly I have no idea... Lol but something tells me I will find something to do. As mentioned a massage would be nice as I am also traveling from Canada 21-27 hours.

I will be sure to report any interesting finding.

    Cheers

  14. Very cool topic, I have been watching some youtube vids of night markets in Chumphon.

Apparently this place is a hidden paradise so therefore I have put it on my list of places to visit.... but yeah night markets sounds and appear amazing. I just don't think I'll be eating any of the deep fried larva...

The other food like chicken and stuff looks freaking amazing!

  15. Not booked but planning to land in BKK late November for a month, first time and looking forward to it.

I plan to travel around to a few spots in the country as well as a week in Vietnam.

Traveling solo and always up to meeting new good people for some partying, touring or whatever... not heavy partying though... LOL I am in my 50's but in decent shape. Just more of a daytime guy as opposed to the 4am stuff.... but I am sure it will happen anyhow.

    Cheers all

  16. Hello all,

just looking for some help regarding a decision on cell phones.

From what I have researched it sounds like I should just bring a basic phone (iPhone 7 or 😎 and buy a SIM at the airport with a package.

    Does this seem accurate?

    Any other advice?

    I am travelling from Canada.

    Thanks

Wrapping up my 3 night stay here and I found it to be a great hotel. Booked through Agoda for a 1 bedroom premiere suite was 190 cdn taxes in, when I arrived I got upgraded to 1 bedroom executive suite which was nice little more square footage.

Hotel staff accommodated my late check in on the first night, super nice, cleaning staff followed up with my extra towel request every day and even kicked in an extra water. Room is spacious bigger then my condo 555 2 flat screen, large lounging area with couch and dining table, mini bar and a window to the bathroom from bed room if your girl wants to shower alone you can still see 555, Decent size roof top pool with nice city views.

Location is perfect 7/11 is a 1 minutes walk on soi 4, nana 5 minutes and 5 minutes to bts.

Guest friendly they called when my ladies arrived but didn’t call on the way out but had no issues anyways.

    Highly recommend

I have photos of the room if anyone wants to see but pretty well the same you would see on Agoda

Thanks for the info, for a first timer planning this is on my list for possibly my first night or two.

    Cheers
