Anything less than 1000 baht a day makes you a cheap Charlie. .

If you mean that you need a new visa then you need to leave the country and apply at the Thai embassey/consulate for a new 2 month tourist visa. You may be able to get 2or 3 at that time. Each visa can be extended by 30 days when you get back to Thailand.
If you mean your passport is expiring then you need to apply for a new passport via your embassy or consulate.

Morning all.
I'm arriving 21st May and planning to stay in Bkk for a fortnight, with maybe a few days in Pats.
Have been to Los many times back in the 80's and 90's but have been MIA for the last 10 years.
Did a search on the forums but nothing came up for Dentists.
What I'm after is some advice on getting some work done while I'm in Bkk.
Basically I'm looking at getting a complete replacement for my upper teeth via implant dentistry and was wondering if anyone has had experience and can make some recommendations.
Looking at a few sites it doesn't seem their prices are any better than what I can get the work done for in Australia but I was always under the impression it would be a lot cheaper in BKK.
As an expample the sires I've checked quote an implant to be about 2k US, which is what I can get an implant done for over here.
Cheers
Friend of mine had the whole upper set replaced by implants here in the UK: for £10,000 . Look good though

Just wanted to mention that Suda on Sukhumvit Soi 14 is a great little place to sit down and have a cold beer and some authentic Thai/Chinese food, all at a very low price. I have had the short ribs several times and they are great, as is everything on the menu. I just love to grab a meal here and then sit around and drink a few beers and chat with the Thais and Westerners that come in to dine there. I highly recommend it if you are in the area and want a grab a casual bite to eat in an open-air, non-pretentious environment. Cheers.
I agree one of my favourites and right next to the Asoke BTS so handy for Soi Cowboy

Thia Food
Over the years I have found there is really very little radiance in the quality and flavours of Thai food served by the roadside or in the big swish restaurants so unless you want Air conditioning ,table cloths , flunkys and mood music settle for somewhere on the street or with an open front with fans.
Another alternative is the food centres in shopping complexes and offices. One central paying point and use 2 or 3 different vendors.
Falang Food
Some of the "falang owned bars can be excellent value but you will find more of a differance in the styles of cooking between the "pub grub" and the high end haute cuisine restaurants and hotels..
and if you want fish speciality you could try the Fish market and restaurant on Sukumwit Soi 24

Skip the train unless you're arriving or leaving during Rush Hr, staying close to a station, and are traveling light. Personally, I'd rather not lug my shit all over the place and up and down stairs and getting all sweaty, to save 200B. BKK Taxis are still remarkably cheap. I've taken the train 5 or 6 times and it's not all that fast when you start counting from your hotel front door or vice-versa. Sometimes during the BKK clusterfuck, it just makes sense though. wj
I agree
Even if the traffic is really bad I'd rather sit back and watch the world go by in the back of a taxi
Once you've added up the total cost of travel including linking from then BTS station to the hotel by taxi (unless you want to walk with your luggage) the total saving is probably going to be less than 150baht..
The express bus is even cheaper but I've stopped using that because it's not cost effective
Having paid 14000 baht for a flight saving 150/ 200 baht is not worth the extra effort involved
and if there are 2 of you taxi will probably be cheaper.

If you have the whole lot amputated it reduces the chance of an std even further. :D
I think I'll stay with using a rubber overcoat

Stayed the a couple of years ago and was happy with the room and service

The reason for so many mobile bars that the article complains about is the closing times imposed on the ordinary bars and clubs a couple of years ago.
If later opening ours were to be brought back there wouldn't be a market for the mobile bars.

Thanks , I'll have to investigate the rail fare.

Strangely on my last visit to the Nana hotel reception objected to me taking two ladies back to my room. "one musr wait in reception and then you can change over" :)

Why not have a look on Agoda or one of the other price comparators to see if they are showing any special deals?

Typhoid, Hep A, and Tetanus and Hep B if you are doing the p4p thing ;). These are the main ones I am advised by my doctor for SE Asia.
The western medics always suggest Malaria tablets, even if you are sticking to the cities, but I haven't bothered with this for a few years.
If you are going rural, then consider yellow fever.
Yellow fever???
Thought that was only f you were coming from West Africa.
Polio diptheria updates and
Rabies pre shots maybe or Japanese Encephalitis
Unfortunately nothing possible for Dengue fever
For best advice check on a proper government site. CHC (Canadian Health) is about the best

Might be something to do with the calendar days of the week being out of sync with the dates.

Yes there is, it is called Holland Beer. It is on Rama II, so go over the bridge on Rama II (Palam Song for the taxi) and you will see it on the right hand side of the road. It is across from a Big C, and make sure you make a u-turn there at the Big C, because if you don't it is a long, long way before you can reverse your direction and come back. It is on the other side of Chao Praya. I went there in late June. It is huge, at least as large as Tawan Daeng German Beer Hall or possibly bigger and using an escalator to to up to the entrance.
Anyway, the place had the same show premise as the German Beer Tawandaeng--big band, lots of dancing girls and guys, and changing singers virtually every song doing covers of Thai hits with a few English songs thrown in every once and awhile. Holland brews its own beer (three varieties, a lager, a dunkel, and a wheat beer, if I remember correctly) and has a large menu similar to Tawan Daeng, and priced about the same.

As for a review--I went there on a Thursday night (usually a big night out), Holland had only 8 tables full at about 11:00 PM in a place that had 100's of tables. The show was well choreographed, the singers were good, and quite frankly there were more singers and dancers than any of TD's, and they were younger and better looking. The band large band (guitars, piano, horns, etc.) was good. On the downside, the home-brewed beer there was not as good as TD (IMHO), nor was the food we tried. I certainly will give it another try, since the entertainment was good. But, I just don't understand how they can stay open if what I saw was indicative of their general attendance. Maybe, they pick up a lot on the weekend, or maybe the day I saw was an anomaly, but TD (almost all of them) are pretty crowded any day of the week, and have some major queues on Friday and Saturday.
Thanks for that I've made a note of the location

Isn't there also a Dutch bier hall of the same type somewhere. I remember being taken to one that I'm told opened a couple of years ago: but as I wasn't paying attention to the route taken by the car I can't recall the location exactly. somewhere in the South East suburbs maybe?

I'll agree the Aspen has very nice rooms, but rather more expensive than the Nana. I would suggest that they are not really comparable on a like for like basis, but draw your own conclusions from their web sites.

Try using the right mouse button and use the open in a new tab option from the drop down menu

It's not easy to find better for the same money in the area. OK it's a bit shabby and tired because of the sheer numbers of people staying there over the years.
Whenever I go there I see rooms being renovated but it must be like painting the Forth bridge.
It must have one of the highest occupancy rates of any Bangkok hotel; pretty well full most nights even during the tourism downturn.

Plenty of places on both sides of the Sukumvit in the side sois. Just choose the one that you like the look of.
