  2. Only time ive gotten a refund was last xmas when i bought an ipad in BKK, the refund was worth about 1300 baht so i was happy, i forget excatly but if spend over a certain amount at department stores your entitled to a vat refund at the airport, dont think hotel is included or dinners etc, the big stores can give you that information while your paying for your goods.

I think you can claim a VAT refund for goods purchased over 2000 BHT but i did notice on the form that the department store filled in for me to give to the VAT refund office that there is an admin charge or 100 BHT, the department store told me that if they fill the form in it is free if the VAT office fill the form in they charge the 100 BHT admin fee

  3. please remember you are liable to pay

vat in the country you are returning to

at their rate of vat on goods brought abroad

    duty free

I think that in most western countrys you can bring goods in for your own use under $500 or $1000 without paying any duty or vat, and your not going to tell them you just bought it even if you have to pay vat.

  4. Found this great live band / restuarant. Just 15 - 20 metres up from the corner of Soi 5 and halfway to Soi7 (opposite Landmark Hotel) is Checkin99 -sort of a wierd mix of old style night club / cosy bar / dancing. Great steaks.. Decore looks like it is out of a time capsule from the 1970s... some of the staff have worked there for over 30 years. The incredible Philippine girl band do almost nom-stop Caberet style entertainment from about 8pm to 1.30am every night are both gorgeous and immensely talented. They sing anything all the oldies, rock and in between - and an amazing array of Aussie rock (new Oz owner)! for the Aussies - they sing everything from Skyhooks, LRB., INXS, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, Daddy Cool, Men at Work ACDC Midnight Oil...Wife and couple friendly (not a girlie bar - but many hostesses who will join your table if asked) and a real oasis for good entertainment in that area... plenty of dancing. Can't imagine that I have walked past so many times and not gone down that ally!! great place... and a real best kept secret of Bangkok night life.

Just what me and my Girl like I will check it out next week.

    Many Thanks

  5. With the flooding going on, and Bangkok evacuating somewhat, are the hotel rates dropping in the city?

Im there next week for 10 days have 2 different hotel booked in Bk and one in Krabbi but havent noticed much of a price drop, Im back agian in mid December so with a bit of luck due to the floods flights might drop in price then ?

    Here's hoping :)

  6. Any good tailors in Bangkok? I know there are many shady ones but I've used Armani's on Sukumvit Soi 8 a few times. If anyone has been there would they vouch for the quality and prices? Fashion is not my forte so I can't really be a good judge myself.

You say that you have used "Armani's on Sukumvit Soi 8 a few times" if your happy with what you get and the price then why do you need to ask, your happy alls good.

  7. Hi - Can anyone recommend a bar where i can watch the Aussie rules grand final this Saturday arvo? in Bangkok!

    Thanks

You could E-mail The aVa bar and wine room (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/AVABarWine-RoomResturant/212734785422965) they have a sports bar upstarts with cable or just down the road from it there is The Australian Pub & BBQ (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Australian-Pub-BBQ/115788258466607#!/pages/The-Australian-Pub-BBQ/115788258466607?sk=events) both are in Sukhumvit 11

Dont know if any of it helps

  8. Looking for an experienced punter to hang out with 1-2 nights on my trip. I'll likely be available around the 18th and/or 19th. This will be my second trip and I would really like to see Patpong but am too much of a pussy to go alone because of all the negative things I've heard.

Just get out there and do it, treat it like home dont walk up any dark alleyways late at night the same as you wouldnt at home.

Or find a nice girl and get her to show you around :)

  9. @Geep: Thank you that's great help. :D

Have you used one those yourself?

    Do you speak Thai?

Any tip, how to learn best?

    +2 Thank you B)

  12. Going to be arriving in Bangkok on the 8th of November, yet to find somewhere to stay. Trying to find a open style hotel room, the only ones ive found so far are Luxx XL and 4points by Sheraton. Luxx XL seems to be to far from all the action. Can anyone suggest any others?

Here is a big list of hotels that you can cross reference with road names/areas

    http://meetthaigirls.com.r24.asia/bangkok/

If you end up with a Hotel 10 to 15 mintues fron Nana or Soi Cowboy it will only be 35 to 100 Bht in a Taxi even cheaper on the Skytrain
