  1. Free Thailand visa on Arrival through October 2019

     April 25, 2019

The good news now is, that the Thai Government has extended the period when you can get a free visa on Arrival between May 1 to October 31, 2019. The countries that can get free VOA are:

    • Andora
    • Bulgaria
    • Bhutan
    • China
    • Cyprus
    • Ethiopia
    • Fiji
    • India
    • Kazakhstan
    • Latvia
    • Lithuania
    • Maldives
    • Malta
    • Mauritius
    • Papua New Guinea
    • Romania
    • San Marino
    • Saudi Arabia
    • Ukraine
    • Uzbekistan

Getting a short stay visa on Arrival in Thailand is a breeze. All you need is a return ticket, a recent 4×6 cm photograph, a proof of income. You fill in the VoA form, hand over the fee at the designated counter and you should get your Visa. I’ve done this before and the whole process for me took about 20 minutes.

    Bottomline

Thailand’s decision to waive off the visa fee is a good move for tourists and the local tourism industry alike. If you are travelling to Thailand until October 2019, you can save quite a bit of money

  2. I think this is a no frill hotel where a guest gets decent accommodation around the center of action in Sukhumvit.

Rooms are pretty much standard as Ibis all around the world with decent breakfast. Very much girl friendly.  There is a security person sitting on his desk near to the elevator but he is a mere spectator if you take a girl to your room. He does not ask for any ID and pretending to be ignoring you having a guest.

Overall it is good value for money...😎

Try Hama-ichi on soi 29 next to the Legacy Suite hotel.  I ate there once and I was very satisfied with the menu options. I saw several Japaneses eating there at the time which for me is a good sign of an authentic Japanese

I have eaten here 3 times. First time, my Japanese colleague took me there and then 2 more times with friends. Ambience is very good and food is excellent. Also have a decent parking area. There is a big menu with good prices. Service is also very prompt and friendly. I have seen many Japanese eating and enjoying there drinks which confirms it's authenticity. As far as I am concerned, I loved the food here.

  4. I read in some of the thai news online portals that VOA fee exemptions have been extended till Oct end. Anu updated information if can be shared by anyone will be highly appreciated.

  5. This hotel has a great location, I have stayed here 3 times in the last couple of years. On the ground floor there is a nice bar with a couple of pool tables. Drinks a little expensive. Across the road there are a few beer bars, Nice cold beers and friendly chatty ladies. A few hundred metres up Soi 22 you will find Queens Plaza - Lots of bars to drink and play pool. Queens Plaza is a bit run down - but still OK for a bit of fun. About 10 minute walk along Sulhumvit and over the road you’ll find Soi Cowboy. Terminal 21 is also close for lots of shopping. The hotel itself is quite modern-although the rooms seem cheaply furnished - but comfortable enough. Breakfast buffet is good. Nice pool area. Indian themed restaurant on top floor which I didn’t try. Hotel is guest friendly with no joiner fee,

Yes i agree with you. It is at the corner of Soi 22 and there are lots of massage parlours down the lane

  6. Someone mentioned the Boxtel by the hour hotel at Suvarnabhumi in a thread recently. I used it for 4 hours a couple of days ago. My flight home was delayed from 9 am to 2.15 pm. The airline should have sent me a mail, letting me know so I could have stayed at my hotel in the city. But no mail. So I got up at 5.30 am, and was at the airport by 7.

The taxi did not use the highway by default for some reason. Every time I take a taxi to the airport, the driver takes a new route, so I did not notice at first. Had I been in a hurry, it could have been catastrophic. Always tell the drive specifically to use the highway!

Anyway, here is what you need to know about the Boxtel @ Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Location. The Boxtel hotel is located at the B level by the Airport Rail Link and the exchanges. You need to use the elevator to get there, at least from the departure level. BKK have this weird thing where the arrival level is blocked off.

Booking. They have a website for booking, but it is not intuitive at all. You need to select dates for check in and check out, and they can not be the same date. Yet, it is all by the hour. So just don’t bother with the website. I showed up and payed cash by the counter. Staffed by a friendly woman who spoke good English. The place did not seem to be very busy, and there are plenty of rooms. You can choose from 2 hours up if I remember correctly.

Price. 3 hours was 950. 4 hours was 1250. Then there is a 100-baht deposit. Wifi included.

Standard. The rooms are very basic as expected. DIY style. Very clean. Overall quiet, but I did hear the occasional suitcase being dropped. There is an outlet for charging and a fan in the roof. Keep the fan on as it gets very warm inside. I am 180 cm and had no problem with the size of the bed. The toilet is further down the hall, so better make a visit before you settle in. There are a few vending machines outside and a seating area.

I do not recommend it as a ST hotel.

I was really glad I had this option! So much better that hanging out at the departure hall for 5 hours.
