  1. Hello there lovely people...

Has anyone stayed at the Paradiso Boutique Suites? Any info/ opinions good or bad would be most welcome. Have considered staying there in the past and checked it out from the outside. The obvious question of course is if it’s guest friendly (it does turn up in most guest friendly hotel searches I’ve done but you never know)

Looks like a no thrills kind of place (not sure if they even offer food) and the rooms seem fairly small, but it sounds decent enough from the reviews I’ve read (aside from the food thing) and is reasonably priced. It’s also on soi 10 where I’ve stayed several times before so at least I’m familiar with the area. I’m trying to cut back on a few things next trip so it may have to do as long as it’s an ok place...otherwise I may go to Pattaya...

  2. By the way (if anyone is still paying attention to this thread) and for future reference...does Chinatown close up earlier than other parts of Bangkok to make way for the streetfood ?

The day I visited Mega Plaza I went at around 5-6 pm and it looked like it was closing up for the day as did most of the regular shops in Chinatown. Wasn’t a problem as I also came to check out the street food, which I did haha...Just curious

  3. Hi guys,

Anyone stayed before this hotel: Galleria 10?

It is located in soi 10 alley, opposite the road will be thermae

Looks good from the photo, with a rooftop pool as well.

Yes I’ve stayed there...There’s a slight walk up and down soi 10 from the main road but the hotel does offer a free tuktuk which I’m not sure ran late at night (I didn’t mind the walk personally ...it’s only 5 minutes or so but some don’t like that sort of thing esp in the heat) I brought a girl back from thermae so it’s definately within walking distance. Definately guest friendly hotel too. Also keep in mind you need to cross sukhumvit road via bridge/overpass to get to and from thermae so once you get to sukhumvit road you can’t just cross over to thermae you need to walk a bit further up or down the main road then cross over via bridge then head back towards thermae on the other side (but yeah not too far) and vice versa...

Didn’t try the pool (I had a look at it ...the pool area was near the bar so a bit crowded for me the one time I went to check it out...I like to chill by a pool haha)

The hotel is also in a good central location for getting around. I’d recommend galleria 10 if you get a good rate in fact I’m staying there again in 2 weeks, so yes imo it’s good enough for a return visit.

  4. Hi where is Nam ... is it a bar or night club ?

    Thanks for you help

I assume ‘nam’ is short for Vietnam ...unless this is some funky lingo I’m unaware of????????????
  5. S Sukhumvit Suites, I know it's across the street from Soi Cowboy, is this a pedestrian overpass where you can bypass the traffic? Decent deal very close to Cowboy, thinking about this one. Nana and Cowboy aren't that far away from each other when you think about it.

May 18-23. First 8 days of the trip is in Pattaya.

yes I think I’ve read the main entry/reception/lobby is directly off the ramp on the second floor. I’ve considered this place myself but I think theres a glass panel in the bathroom walls meaning if someone was in bed or in my room they can see right in (if I’ve got the right place) ..not something I’m comfortable with haha I do hear they have blinds that can be lowered but not good enough for me. Not necessarily an issue for others. There’s a review/discussion about the place in the hotel section of this forum

nana and Cowboy aren’t far apart really, as I think already pointed out. I stay sort of between both (near thermae) and haven’t had trouble venturing back and forth between the two. Also S Sukhumvit Suites is pretty close to thermae as well if that’s your thing and is generally a good central location as you also have easy access to the bits and mrt and it’s next to terminal 21.

Since this is a thread about may trips, I suppose I ought to mention I’m heading into town May 4th (international Star Wars haha) to 16th 2018 still debating a visit to Pattaya (never been) but that’s kind of open at the moment cos I feel like there’s still enough to keep myself occupied in bkk so I’ll see how it goes. Probably return again in August or November so plenty of time later.

    Have fun everyone.

  6. Second what birdhouse said. Mega Plaza Wangburapa in China Town. It can't get geekier, this place is on a par with Akihabara

I will absolutely be checking this place out. Was watching some YouTube vids last night. It’s exactly the sort of place I’m looking for. Wish I’d known about it previous trips but now it’s something to look forward to this time.

  7. I'm no expert on games, but I found this article on Bangkok game stores (it's from 2014, so it may be outdated):

    https://coconuts.co/bangkok/lifestyle/quest-authentic-video-games-these-6-shops/

There was also this Reddit on where to buy Nintendo Switch, which lists some stores:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Thailand/comments/5w9i23/where_to_buy_nintendo_switch_in_bangkok/

    Cool thanks for the info.

  8. isn't MBK a good spot for something like that?

So I hear...I’ve only been to MBK once and I found the place really confusing but I wasn’t exactly looking for anything in particular ...think I left in a drooling mess after trying to navigate my way through the endless bootleg T-shirt’s level...but dammit I’ll give it another go!

Mega Plaza in China Town along Ratchawong Rd. Every game is here, so many choices plus this place is Otaku heaven. Trust me you'll love it.

On Sukhumvit go to MBK on the 6th floor there's a store there called Art & Gun. They are best for Nintendo products but also have PS4 and Xbox One, no bs hassle too.

Yep think I’ve seen a video of this place on YouTube (art & gun) but didn’t know their name...seems exactly what I’m looking for. Cheers. I’ll look into Mega Plaza too...sounds cool. Looks like the kind of place I wish I’d known about before.

Thanks guys I’ll give MBK a go...Sadly it’ll probably be the first thing I do when I arrive haha.

  9. ..time to get geeky for just a moment...

Does anyone happen to know any good videogame shops (or any other places that happen to sell video game related products) in or around the sukhumvit area ...im looking specifically for places that sell current/new video game releases and am mainly looking for Nintendo Switch products (I’m a game addict and a particular game I’m waiting for happens to be releasing the very same morning I leave for my next trip to bkk in May at 3am so I won’t be able to make it to the shops before I leave and it’s a game that can be played on the go and would be ideal for those long lonely flight...it’ll irk me to no end if I don’t manage to acquire this game on or around the day it hits the shelves)...

I say I’m specifically looking for places that stock new games but while we’re on the topic, anything to do with gaming/video games both new and retro (eg collectible game related memorabilia such as figures,T-shirt’s etc) is of interest to me if anyone happens to know of anything that fits the description as I like browsing through such places in my travels. Not sure if that sort of place is a thing in Bangkok though...oh and I’m only interested in genuine products not fakes btw. A true geek will only accept the real thing.

I have been in a shop up in the cinema and tech area in Terminal 21 that sells lots of PS4 and Sony related stuff. Not sure about Nintendo though...I also saw a YouTube video of a shop in MBK that was seemingly exactly what I’m looking for but they neglected to mention their name...If I know of some places in advance I can try contacting them beforehand to make sure they’ll have the damn thing when I arrive...a man can Dream...

Feels weird asking a question on this site that’s not nightlife related haha....but any help will be greatly appreciated as I’ll be needing to find this game ASAP dammit.

  10. As you've struggled with walking in the heat and don't want to pay taxi fare or motisai rates, Perhaps you could pay a little more and get a hotel on or closer to Sukhumvit, between Cowboy and NEP and all your favorite food places at T21. Maybe check out S15 or On8 rates

(Not wanting to digress too much from the topic at hand but)...is On8 guest friendly? I'm guessing it is.

  11. This is the hotel on the third floor up near Billboard in the corner next to the hair salon (not the one upstairs next to Erotica).

yes it is. I think last year I was in one on the other side of nana (also on 3rd floor) which I remember being dingier but I might've just been weirded out by it as it was my first time in one.
  12. In case you were still wondering/looking , here's a pic I took about 2 weeks ago of one of the st hotel rooms at Nana Plaza. I thought it was clean and basic, suitable for what was needed... Cost 3-350 baht for 2 hours (pretty dim photo and it may not look that great but the pic doesn't do it justice. It was fine)
