  1. Want to ask if anybody stayed at Aloft on Sukhumvit Soi 11. Currently I stay on Mercure on the same street. But am debating on switching to Aloft for points and status as I'm planning to get the Marriott Card. Currently looking at my trip during Songkran and am looking at USD200 more for the total stay at Aloft. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

  2. If you are fit you can do it in 15-20 minutes. There are nice shops and cafes and massage all along the road, so for a one night stay it is good. Silom Village is a nice place to look around, and you can walk to the Chao Phrya river in 20 mins too. I am loyalty member and got a free night and a free beer. You should be able to get a hotel room for about 2000b RO; the rooms are really nice. You can always take a motorbike or taxi to Patpong if it is too hot to walk.

Might end up booking Holiday Inn express. Slightly closer and a hundred baht or so cheaper with breakfast included. But still scouting around in the meantime. Seems both Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express runs between 2500-2700baht per night. Granted I'm looking for the flexibility to cancel as my plan isn't exactly set in stone yet.

  3. Why don't you stay at one hotel. Transport is cheap enough in Bangkok.....

Only reason I'm considering this is because the travel distance between Patpong and Sukhumvit. Planning to hit up SOL and then seeing how the GoGo are in the area at night. Knowing if I do LT someone at Patpong don't want to rent out another room nearby and rather retreated to my "own" room.

  4. Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for hotel recommendation near Patpong. Plan to visit the area in April and check out what the original Bangkok Red Light district is like. Will probably do a 1 night stay before moving back towards Sukhumvit area for the duration of the stay. Will be traveling light so I won't have any problems checking in and out of hotels.

    Thanks,

  5.

Someone mentioned the Boxtel by the hour hotel at Suvarnabhumi in a thread recently. I used it for 4 hours a couple of days ago. My flight home was delayed from 9 am to 2.15 pm. The airline should have sent me a mail, letting me know so I could have stayed at my hotel in the city. But no mail. So I got up at 5.30 am, and was at the airport by 7.

The taxi did not use the highway by default for some reason. Every time I take a taxi to the airport, the driver takes a new route, so I did not notice at first. Had I been in a hurry, it could have been catastrophic. Always tell the drive specifically to use the highway!

Anyway, here is what you need to know about the Boxtel @ Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Location. The Boxtel hotel is located at the B level by the Airport Rail Link and the exchanges. You need to use the elevator to get there, at least from the departure level. BKK have this weird thing where the arrival level is blocked off.

Booking. They have a website for booking, but it is not intuitive at all. You need to select dates for check in and check out, and they can not be the same date. Yet, it is all by the hour. So just don’t bother with the website. I showed up and payed cash by the counter. Staffed by a friendly woman who spoke good English. The place did not seem to be very busy, and there are plenty of rooms. You can choose from 2 hours up if I remember correctly.

Price. 3 hours was 950. 4 hours was 1250. Then there is a 100-baht deposit. Wifi included.

Standard. The rooms are very basic as expected. DIY style. Very clean. Overall quiet, but I did hear the occasional suitcase being dropped. There is an outlet for charging and a fan in the roof. Keep the fan on as it gets very warm inside. I am 180 cm and had no problem with the size of the bed. The toilet is further down the hall, so better make a visit before you settle in. There are a few vending machines outside and a seating area.

I do not recommend it as a ST hotel.

I was really glad I had this option! So much better that hanging out at the departure hall for 5 hours.

I agreed. Helped a lot when I arrived in the wee morning hours from my flight. Only thing that was opened when I arrived was the sim card shops outside of the baggage claim. Strolled right up to their tiny check in booth and ask for a room for 3 hours. Enough to power nap and have most of the shops open (ie ARL line and Currency Exchange). Only down side is no bathroom/shower. If you need to use the bathroom, head on out to one of the many public bathroom in the airport which is annoying for me.

  6. So did a 5 days stayed in Sukhumvit Suites on my trip to Bangkok. $1900baht per night including tax. Small room but if you are just there to sleep it is decent. Normal amenities are available. Toothbrush, towels, water kettle, fridge and 2 free bottles of water per day. First floor is there bar so their front desk is on the second floor. Floor 3-6 requires a keycard to access. Now I liked this hotel for the location. Directly next to Asoke BTS and Sukhumvit MRT for transportation. Food, I could walk over to T21 food court. And then right around the corner is Soi Cowboy. Rooms are either facing the street, extremely noisy at night, facing the skybridge that links Asoke BTS to interchange 21 or one facing the alley leading up to The Continent hotel. Hotel is guest friendly. In the elevator, it states that all guest are required to drop off their ID at the front desk, but 2 times that I took somebody up, we just went straight to my room no problem. Highly recommended, but make sure to not get a room facing the street.
