  1. I'm close to the Sukhumvit MRT or Asoke BTS and I have an 8:15am flight at BKK.  I believe the train opens at 6:00 so I'd have enough time.

Might be cutting it close if I choose the train to the Airport Express Line...  Last time I took it I remember stairs and some pretty long jaunts with my luggage so I'd probably be sweaty as hell when I get to the airport.  Just wondering what the MRT looks like at 6am, might be bedlam.

Might just pay 500b for a taxi, all inclusive of tolls like I did last time.

  2. Don't know why but I'm bored during the day in Bangkok and Ter 21 doesn't have much beside clothes and a food court.  Wondering if anyone has gone to this mall, if it's safe to buy as I've read they sell fakes and pirated stuff.

Just wondering if it's worth my sweat in the subway to do it.

If anyone is interested, is in the Ter 21 area, wants to split a cab, PM me.

Was thinking about looking at a new tablet.

  3. I've stayed at Furama, if I walked in with the girls nobody asked at all but if the girl came up alone they would call to check and a second call when the girl leaves.

I really enjoyed my stay here (also because they upgraded me to a suite) but that being said the location feels a bit outside of the main fun areas.

You can't go up the elevator without a keycard so they just called the guest and brought them up, I'm sure.

Breakfast is okay, nothing that special.  Best dishes are the couple stir fry they have.  Haven't found a good American breakfast yet in Thailand, doubt I ever will.

It is removed a little farther from the action than I'd like, almost nothing for 500M to Terminal 21 except for 6 lane highway.

  4. Short vacation trip: arriving in 9 May till 13 May. Staying just opposite thermae hehe

Good location if you like that bar.  Feel free to post a review of your experiences there.

I'll be a little walk away from there but I'll be there at least once during my trip.  Here's hoping the Heineken isn't piss warm like last time and it's not 30C inside the bar.

  5. I just completed a 4 night stay.

    Pros:

    -yes, guest friendly

    -room in fine condition

    -nice comfortable bed

    -excellent WiFi

    -good size deluxe room

    -nice staff

-included breakfast (but I never tried it)

    -close to BTS / MRT

    -separate shower and bathtub

    Cons

-I didn’t care for the location as I felt a bit removed from the center of action

-front desk never once called my room when girls left hotel

I didn’t check out the pool.

In the future, i would consider other hotels before choosing to stay here.

Removed from the action sounds like a good thing to me as there would be less noise.  But, on a map it doesn't look more than 500 meters from Soi Cowboy or Ter 21.  That's probably less than a 5 minute walk.

Guest Friendly doesn't mean they track the girls movement, as the last hotel didn't do it either.  Did they accept their ID or write down their name and info when they came in?

  6. Yeah i've stayed there. It was adequate for the price. The major thing is that the breakfast is only average and fairly tasteless and the rooftop pool sucks. The "pool" is actually two small plastic wading pools sunk into a wooden deck on the roof. So if the pool is a big deal I would cancel the booking.

Otherwise the stay was comfortable and rooms okay but overall nothing really special. I would give it a solid 7/10

    Hope that helps.

I don't care about the pool, I try to avoid the sun as I'm pale.

Guest friendly, clean, nice size room, value for money, proximity to Cowboy, is what I like.  The free breakfast will save me money if it's decent.  Cheap food in Ter 21 blocks away, BTS and MRT close by... good location.

  7. I guess I did some searches and got the answers I needed.

The price dropped a couple bucks more and I booked.  Tons of good reviews of it being guest friendly, blocks from the MRT (easy from the airport rail) and a couple minute walk from Soi Cowboy, included buffet breakfast (which I've read is good), etc.  Lots of positive vibes.

Was going to book S Sukhumvit Suites but the tiny rooms killed it for me.  Their 'suite' is about the same size as FuramX's regular room.

  8. This more upscale hotel is coming up at a reasonable price for me, although non-refundable, it has free breakfast and a LARGE room for Bangkok standards for a decent price.

It's a couple dollars more than S Sukhumvit Suites which has a better location, but small rooms and no free breakfast.

Just wondering if anyone has stayed at the FuramaXclusive Asoke which looks to be about 500M from Soi Cowboy, has done the walk and has seen the neighbourhood, etc.  Anything interesting on that walk, like massage places or other similar activities?  Guest Friendly???

    Thanks.

  9. May 10-23

So this is a 2 part trip, 8 nights in Pattaya, 5 in Bangkok.  I stayed close to Soi Cowboy last time, should I stay nearer to Nana Plaza this time or keep it the same?  Any nice and clean hotels near Nana, if I should want to stay in that section?

I went into a few GoGo's in Nana plaza some had some really good looking girls.  Has anything changed in Nana that I should know about?  Are there a lot of massage places and cheap places to eat near Nana area?  Been to a couple beer bars down there, nothing special to be honest - unless I missed the ones with young hotties.

Massage and GoGo quality with hot, young girls is my main concern.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Regular washing, body hair removal, decent underwear and weight loss.  That's what got me away from the dreaded rashes that I suffered endlessly when I first arrived in Thailand.

That's probably the best course of action right there...  more than one thing that causes it, multi-pronged solution sounds like a winner.

  11. Just arrived on cab to hotel. A gentle soul wants to meet up for a beer and show a newbie the ropes? I'm staying near Nana. Add me on line Happyviking83

A couple guys told me they wanted to hang out (from this board) when in country and I told them to PM me, nobody did.  Not a big deal, but you can find people to hang out with there as long as you are willing to meet people.  I met a guy from the US and hung around with him for a day.  It was a lot of fun...

If you go by yourself and don't interact with anyone, it'll be hard to meet anyone to show you the ropes.

  12. How much did pay for the pizza?

If you want to splash some money another night try Medinii restaurant at the 35th floor at The Continent Hotel (at Asok junction). They have a deal with free flow of pizza, pasta (and I think one main dish from the ala carte), dessert, beer, wine and cocktails for 999 baht. The food is definitely ok but the view and the setting is great. Just make sure you reserve a table by the windows.

I spend a few nights at Continet Hotel last year and can really recommend it. GF, great location and good value (although not cheap). Don't know why it's overlooked in our community.

The whole bill at the Italian place was less than The Game, ripoff joint.  I think the pizza was around 325B.  It could easily feed a man and woman out for dinner.  Two adult Western guys, maybe it would be a stretch.

I'm not big on all-can-eat buffets (that's what it sounds like) but I'd keep it in mind.  Seems like something I'd do if it was my last night and I was blowing the last of my Thai money.

  13. Last night I was craving some pizza, after a long massage session - I felt refreshed, but starving.  Looked online for a pizza joint close to my hotel.  Found one that was rated well on google, Big Mama Pizza.  A few minute walk and the weather had cooled down around 9pm.  Some of those driveways were slanted on the street which made me walk sideways.  What are the city planners thinking?  I guess it goes well with the potholes and huge plants right in the middle of the sidewalk.

Sat down and ordered a personal pizza.  Damn, it was quite large and I could only eat 6 of the 8 slices.  Breakfast for the next day!  Got free flat bread and butter, a mango smoothie and of course - the pizza.  Thin crust with lots of cheese, generous toppings.  I was impressed.  I was looking for parmesan cheese and the pepper flakes I'm used to in North America, nowhere to be found.  Some extra hot ground red pepper was there, I used it sparingly.

I woke up this morning and I realize there is an NFL game I wanted to see.  I found out that The Game near Nana is playing it and they open at 8am.  It's pretty strange having a Heineken at 8am with an omelet...  where I live, we don't serve alcohol until after 11am.  To be honest, the place was overpriced, catering to American tourists, would be my guess.  At least I saw my team win today!

Will not repeat at The Game, as the only draw to me was that they were playing the particular game I wanted to see.  Met a cool guy from the US in there.  The breakfast I ate there looked like a child's portion.  I think I paid 300B for it too.  Ripoff.

Big Mama Pizza, I recommend it.  Not the cheapest, but that pizza would feed 2, easily.
