Still in Nana, if you're around
-
5 of us here, if you fancy a beer
-
On the ground and running, Spanky's last night was a blast.
Anyone still up for Gulliver's tonight?
-
You have to use the one in the post and not the signature.
Hi Rowy
Could you change the code in my post to the one in the original post please.
I only set this up so we could all keep in touch.
Thanks

There already is a Line group for members on the ground.
The last time I tried it, albeit months ago, it wasn't working.
If you want to ask one of the mods to change my post to include their QR code instead of the one i set up,
I don't mind.
Just whatever keeps us all in touch whilst we're there.

Coming in Nov 29 thru Dec 12.....................Daytime culture and night Mongering............
If you fancy it, me and a couple of mates will be going to Ayutthaya during the morning before the meet up on the 6th at Gulliver's bar.
Feel free to come along, http://thailandforvisitors.com/central/ayuthaya/sri-ayutthaya/
Most likely getting the train, then hire some scooters and go around the different monuments and temples, heading back to Bangkok for 4 or 5pm
before getting ready for the night's activities.
If anyone else fancies doing this let me know.

Good to hear, as long as you're there, that's the main thing. Concerning the chatm there's a guy with me who'll talk for all of us.
;)

With a little more than two weeks until our planned night on the 6th,
I thought I'd just to check to see if everyone is still interested in coming.
I will be at Gulliver's Bar on the 6th of December around 6 pm there will be 4 of us, plus whoever
wants to come along from here, I don't have any set plans, but beer, pool and girls will play a part
in the night. :)

Bandithaifur, you're here on the 6th, do you fancy a few lemonades and a game of pool?
Are you still planning on meeting up? Don't worry if you can't make it, but it would be handy to know if you're not coming so
we're not hanging around for you.
I'll PM you guys too, in case you miss this post.
Plus any of the guys who live in Bangkok, it would be great to have you there, to show us the ropes sort of thing.

They must read this thread, as I have now had a reply.
I guess they're fair enough,
as I've booked a double room and there's only me in there, No charge
but if there was 2 of us in there, and i still wanted to bring a 'friend' the charge would be 1000 per night.
If there were 2 of in there, I'd still be game, but I think the Mrs may have a word or two to say.

Looks like the pound is having a bit of a resurgence anyway.

One of my friends tell me, On Nut is the new up and coming area to get a trendy apartment.
-
If you don't get an answer here go to the hotel website and look for a way to email them. I've done this before and the hotel owners have always been prompt and gracious in their replies. If they're in Paton they know the story.
Tried to email them, have sent the same email a few times, no reply so far.
I'm taking that as a no no, and will be expecting a few funny looks when I book in.

Thanks Vandefraich, handy little link that, with plenty of other stories
from around Thailand that I enjoyed reading also.

It should run around 1,000 baht one-way between Bangkok and Ayutthaya ...
Many years ago I've done the slow train up as well, it was pleasant and slow and gives a great opportunity for people watching Thais.
I rented a bicycle to get around and would recommend that. It was very peaceful to glide around the majestic ruins in quiet.
But I stayed the night there at a backpackers guest house. I think I also took a local river cruise through the waterway that goes around the ruins IIRC. Enjoyed the local guesthouse and restaurant. Not the hustle and bustle of the city, but peaceful and serene. I recall eating some insanely spicy and delicious dish on a restaurant balcony over the river.
Great memories. Enjoy!
I have been up on the slow train, you can then hire a tuk tuk to take you around the temple.
I got a taxi back into Bangkok - but to be honest it was awhile ago so can remember the amount of time it took.
Its nice trip if you get chance.
I go there regularly and it is quite a large place. The idea of hiring a bike or tuk tuk is a good one. There are so many places to see and visit.
I took a tour which included the boat trip from BKK then a guide/bus in Ayutthaya. Lots of fun and worth it.
Thanks for the info guys,
I think bike and train is the best for me.

Thanks for very handy info, I think bikes are the way to go for me

Again,thanks for the report,
after reading that, I can honestly say
Udon is definitely not my sort of noodle.

After quite a lot of scouting around I found this comprehensive guide to get there
some top info for anyone interested in this place

I was on Koh Samet about 5 years ago,
lovely ride over on the ferry, and there's several different piers, we got off at the 3rd one I think,
no idea what the name of it was. Only to be met by a very butch LB who rents out the scooters
he/she was not really farang friendly, but my mate spoke Thai and she warmed to him :)
ended up giving us a good deal, but getting them out of the small ferry area was tricky.
Great hotel we stayed at, pool was top notch, with a bar you could swim up to, and order drinks
and food. Of a night, there's not a great choice, and seems to be Lb heavy if you ask me.
Though they were all very pleasant and we had a laugh with a few of them.
The beach is great fun, with different shows as you walk along, from jugglers to fire eaters,
take plenty of insect repellent though, I got eaten alive,
and not the way I wanted.

Thanks Kimao
very handy few sentences you've given me.
I'm hoping to say "Bai Tiaw" as often as possible.

Thanks Viandefraiche
I just had a quick check anyway, I have a British passport so should be able to sneak in for free.

Do we need a visa for Thailand now, I thought we were exempt for the first 30 days.?
-
Has anyone made the trip by train to Ayutthaya from Bangkok,
I'm thinking of trying to do this in a day trip, say leave around 9am from Lamphong station, spending 6 hours or so doing the
temples and then the train back.
Is this feasible ? is 6 hours enough to go around this magnificent old city, should I hire a bike to get around, or are the tuk tuks better
due to the distances involved.
