If price was not an issue then Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit for their pool, but it is one more for relaxing in than doing laps.
Other SPG/ Marriott group hotels to look at are The Westin (across from Sheraton Grande) and Four Points (close to The Westin) and both have pools you could do laps in.
The Sofitel Sukhumvit would also be worth checking out if wanting a really nice hotel and there are plenty of other hotel options in Bangkok.
A night in Nana Plaza and a night in Soi Cowboy is easily done, walking between them is 10-20 minute walk or get a moto taxi.
Agree, I commonly stay at Four Points since is right in the middle between both locations and practically right next to Thermae. Their pool is decent size on the rooftop, and they have a casual rooftop bar there if you just wanted to relax during the day before goin out.

Normally I just take a taxi. I know it is much more expensive than the train but I am usually extremely exhausted from the flight and prefer to just sit in a A/C car directly to my hotel. If you take a taxi, be ready for the driver to potentially try and rip you off by not wanting to turn on the meter. I usually just tell them meter on please and easily pay the highway tolls to my destination. I guess another reason is because I usually combine my Thailand trip with a business trip I take yearly in Asia so I generally have two pieces of large check-in luggage and do not want to lug that around the train/bus.

Airbnb would be good if you were staying a while, but as pointed out earlier most are hesitant for short stay. Many countries in Asia are changing rules because of airbnb, because they can bypass a lot of the hotel rules and regulations. I did a quick search for bangkok and noticed rules such as "if asked you are a friend staying there" and "nothe guest friendly". Personally not worth the hassle IMHO.

I actually went with Majestic Grande Hotel for the first part of my trip. Price was around 60 and checked on www.oyster.com for pics. I use oyster because it contains pics from people who have stayed at the hotel and appear more honest and less Photoshopped IMHO.

Got a couple days available on the tail end of a business trip so looking at spending a couple days in Bangkok. 30 Jun - 04 Jul. Was considering checking out Pattaya but with only 5 days total available figured I would just stay in Bangkok. I frequent Nana and Soi but might see Patpong since I have never been there.
