  1. The beach is OK in Hua Hin once you get through the area with the sunbeds and umbrellas, keep your eyes open for jellyfish though. Usually a few washed up on the beach.

As for the nightlife, plenty of beer bars in the Bintabat area near Hilton but keep expectations low..

  2. The problem with the Phuket minivans is they tend to randomly stop at a tour shop for a few minutes to try and give everyone on the bus hard sell to people for the various popular trips in HKT.

You can get a meter taxi at the booth outside the airport but be aware the meter ticks over much faster than in a BKK taxi. Airport to Patong will set you back about 700.

  3. I've only had it happen one time before where the meter was going up suspiciously fast, ended up being 150bt for a journey probably should be 70-80 baht.

I've heard good things about these "All Thai" Prius taxis that are on the rise but I've not had one in the vicinity when I've needed a ride. Apparently they always put the meter on plus the drivers are well presented and careful.

  4. In the same Soi as Irish Clock and Top Mansion very close to the Day and Night bar complex.

I quite like Home@ Udon which is quite new, decent rooms and a couple of doors down from Irish Clock.

  5. For getting around the middle of BKK then BTS or MRT all the way, cuts through the traffic like a hot knife through butter.

Had a bad taxi ride recently where the guys meter was blatantly on the diddle. the amount of kms on the trip seemed to be creeping up way too fast giving a total 150B bill when it should have been 80 or 90. At the end of the night trying to get one who will go to my end of town (near Bang Kapi) is always fun but I find if I flag one near Asok then I am usually ok and they use the meter.
