  1. Visited Bangkok for a few days with Cerberus and Alleycat and ate at Rosabieng Restaurant on a Thursday night. It is located on Sukhumvit Soi 11 almost directly across from the Ambassador hotel. If you walk down Soi 11 from Sukhumvit, the restaurant is about 75 yards down on your left hand side. It has space for car and motorbike parking, but if you walk like most, it is very easy to reach by foot.

The restaurant looks like a big house from the outside, and has outdoor deck seating for approximately 50 or 60 guests as well as a separate bar and live music.

The restaurant itself has a train theme to it, from the sign outside to the working scale train set inside.

There is seating on three different floors inside the restaurant, with party rooms on the second and third floors (first and second for you Europeans biggrin.gif) They seat 40 - 50 guests on each floor for a total occupancy of almost 200 guests. That said, reservations don't seem to be required due to the size of the restaurant. If I were coming with a large party, I would still call ahead though.

This is not an upscale or hi so restaurant, but it is far removed from being a hole in the wall food stall. The majority of guests seemed to be Thai and other Asian nationalities, and I would have no problem bringing a girlfriend or wife here. The service is prompt for the most part, with the food coming out much quicker than expected. Quality and flavor of the food was good in my opinion, not excellent, but definitely a place I would eat again. There is a main serving table (an expediter station in restaurant speak) in the middle of the dining area. Makes for good food watching as you can see what each table has ordered and if so inclined you could ask for the same.

The food was not as spicy as expected even though we asked for some dishes to be extra spicy. One small complaint is that our appetizer came out second to last, but again, all the food came out quickly so it was not that big of a deal. The menu is quite extensive, probably close to 40 pages in total. That makes ordering difficult if you're new to Thai food or are just indecisive like me. Prices here are about average for a restaurant of this style, with six dishes and a few drinks for three people totaling less than ฿1,500. I didn't pay attention to see if a service charge is added. Good food with good company always makes for a good night out.

I've eaten there before.  Looks like they've take a new approach to Marketing their venue.  I'll be sure to revisit next trip to Bangkok. Thanks for the update...

  2. Looking to spend a week in November in one of the Hilton group properties in Bangkok for reward point and keeping up the status reasons. The idea is to mostly spend time looking around the city. Also would be good to have food/shopping options in close proximity as I don't want to be stuck with eating at hotel restaurants.

I am blind and people have been warning me about difficulties with walking in BKK. Not sure if having the company of a local lady is helpful but it would be good to have public transport nearby. I can always jump in a cab of course.

So among Hilton Millennium on Chao Phraya River, Conrad on Wireless Road and yet-to-open Hilton Sukhumvit, what would people recommend? Forget the doubletree. I find rooms in those places to be too small.

    Thanks for inputs.

    Conrad Hotel Wireless Road, Bangkok.

  3. It is girl friendly however, you can find so many more options on Soi 11 for a better price.  It's not the biggest room but it is comfortable, girl friendly & centrally located.  LeFenix on Soi 11.  Smart Suites right opposite LeFenix is girl friendly as well but a bit smaller but definitely value for money.  Check them both out on the website Agoda.com.

  4. Hey fellas I am coming into town in June. Just wondering if anybody would like to meet up to go out for some drinks. Just my second time in Bkk. About myself young Asian American coming alone. If so let me know guys. Maybe do a GOGO tour. I am staying near Soi 4 Suk.

Sounds like a plan! When in June? I'll be there myself. Still don't have a concrete date but, I will be there...

    Around the 15th

Got it! I'll keep you posted with my travel dates...
  5. Found this great live band / restuarant. Just 15 - 20 metres up from the corner of Soi 5 and halfway to Soi7 (opposite Landmark Hotel) is Checkin99 -sort of a wierd mix of old style night club / cosy bar / dancing. But they have Great steaks - reasonable prices. .. Decore looks like it is out of a time capsule from the 1970s... some of the staff have worked there for over 30 years.. waiters with bow ties. Inside is like Ricks Bar from Casblanca!! It even has waterfalls, stork statues and old style plaster parrots on the walls! The best part of this place is the incredible Philippine girl band that do almost non-stop Caberet style entertainment from about 8pm to 1.30am every night are both gorgeous and immensely talented. They sing anything... all the oldies, rock and in between - and an amazing array of Aussie rock (new Oz owner)! for the Aussies - they sing everything from Skyhooks, LRB., INXS, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, Daddy Cool, Men at Work ACDC Midnight Oil...It is totally "Wife and couple" friendly (not a girlie bar - but many good looking hostesses who will join your table only if asked and make sure the singlies have company...they are great with single expat women and making sure everyone is up and dancing) it is a real oasis for good no-hassles entertainment in that area... plenty of dancing.. or just watching the band. Can't imagine that I have walked past so many times and not gone down that ally!! not much they can do with the small entrance but still a great place... and a real "best kept secret" of Bangkok night life.

Interesting! I like beer bars off the beaten path with live music & a cozy atmosphere. Thanks for sharing! I will definitely pass it a visit next round in Bangkok. Cheers!
  6. Hi guys, i am looking for an advice regarding a hotel in Bangkok. I will be there 2 nights with a friend and i was hoping to find a 2 bedroom apartment with a shared living room, nice location and girl friendly. I am prepared to pay around 3000 thb per night.

Also, if that is not within the pricerange for a good 2 bedroom, what would you recommend for 1500 thb per room? I am not looking for anything special, but mainly to be a nice hotel and maybe have a nice pool and a convenient location for the nightlife is a must. Thank you

Try the Omni on Sukhumvikt Soi 4. I've actually stayed there before in a two bedroom apartment with a shared living room. Reasonably priced & girl friendly.
  7. Majestic Suites at the start of Soi Nana(1200-1500) per night. Ibis is good for comfort, cleanliness, wi-fi & free buffet breakfast also on Soi Nana. Omni which is located right behind Ibis is also good. You can choose the apartment side or the hotel side. Their rooms are THB1200-1500 per night. Ibis & Omni provide tuk tuk service as well to the top of Sukhumvikt. Those are just a few that come to mind. There are loads of reasonable hotels on Soi 4 right next to all the action for THB700-1500. All of these hotels are girl friendly. Stop by a check it out...
