Plan to track all foreigners sim cards

Outlandish

AIS (and probably other operators but I haven't worked with them) have a solution in place which records all network traffic coming through their mobile network. They are storing this data for different amounts of time after they run the data through various classifications and algorithms. Along with storing a history of sites being visited by using the HTTP flow they are also storing details such as location of subscriber per transaction, applications they have installed, favorite apps, most visited sites and many many others.  So its possible for them to build a map to see where a user's location changes during the day. They are not actively reading everyone's messages unless there is an order from the police to track a particular user's history. The major function at the moment is just for providing reporting on where network congestion, predicting customer churn and other things.

The tools that they are using to do this are called CEM (customer experience management) and have existed for a few years now. Many vendors such as huawei CEM, ericsson do this for them.

Well AIS has only 3 guys maintaining the system that is harvesting all network data for all of bangkok and surrounding areas. The system does it automatically really. Like I said, they are not actively following people as there is nothing to see but they can go back in time if a crime was committed for example to see where someone was.

I was thinking the same thing, LOL.  All they would see on their GPS maps of me is the back and forth from Nana to my hotel with  the one time side trip to MBK.

The worst part of all this is that ANYBODY committing a crime here who had registered their SIM (any premeditation and you would pay a homeless person a couple of B100 to go into 7 and get your SIM) would immediately drop the SIM in a bin somewhere.  Cleverer still they would post their phone (still on) to another location in Thailand just for a good laugh!

1) Buy a good Android phone supported by Lineage (check: https://download.lineageos.org/)

2) Install Lineage from https://download.lineageos.org

3) Install only free and open source anti-police state software from free and open source software repositories like fdroid: https://f-droid.org/en/

Recommended apps: https://prism-break.org/en/categories/android/

Use signal for calling: https://signal.org/

Don't use Line if you don#t have to: Line is a proprietary Korean software that tracks everything you do, like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Cheers

... and don’t use the data connection on your phone. Ever.

Because as long as you are connected to a cellular network, even data only, your whereabouts are known to the network.

So, only use WiFi hotspots, and enjoy your paranoia.

Have you ever tried to get a SIM in India as a tourist ? Neigh on impossible. I tried when I visited last year and the hoops you have to jump though. You need a local person to verify who you are with their own contact details. As a tourist how are you supposed to know a local person well enough to verify that you are not dodgy?

I just gave up and used wi fi wherever I could. hotels turn off your access the minute you leave, and often times I would have to go back to reception to ask for access to get an Uber to my next destination.

So for me, the compromise of being tracked rather than no access at all is a no brainer. I’m sure the authorities know why guys come alone to a Bangkok. Lol
