Wonderful Soi 11

Today here's what's left of the Federal Hotel, a Soi 11 institution since the 1970's, making room for new Condos. I never stayed there but had breakfast in their coffee house once, and their website is still up.

So that's why they are not answering my calls, .....I feel a little choked up looking at those pic, lots of great memories from staying there.

Stayed for about a week in soi 11 at the Grand President hotel. Good hotel, price and view.

Now that the cocktail vans are all gone it feels a little empty around soi 11. I would have preferred they kept the vans and just stopped all the parking of taxis, motorbikes and shuttles.

The vans were kicked out for encroaching (more like existing 100%) on public road and walkways. They were told to move to private property and actually lease their spaces. Before they would just pay fees to the police and Tessakit to let them operate. Don't know how permanent their absence will be but they haven't been there the last three times I've been to Soi 11.

Food stalls were still operating and plenty of illegal parking happening. A lot more laws are being applied around Thailand, albeit still rather inconsistently.

I went to Soi 11 the other day with a lady specifically to hit the cheap cocktail bars! I was so bummed and confused when none of them were there. Those things were the perfect place for a quick windown after hitting one of the Soi 11 discos or to get a little bit tipsy on the cheap before catching a taxi home.

 

There's still the tiny sukhumvit bars, but those bars give off a sleeze vibe that the Soi 11 bars did not.

 

 

Soi 11 is now quite a bit more lame.

I too enjoyed them for a quick few rounds before or after the discos. Often get some interesting characters coming together there and can be a lot of fun.

Those small bars on sukhumvit can be ok but anymore they are overrun by Africans and Ladyboys so I haven't stopped at one for a while.

Will be interesting to see the next thing that goes if and when the Junta hones in on the adult areas more.

I'm embarassed to say that I've been to BKK twice, NEP about 20 times and I've never walked to Soi11. lol

 

I'll check it out next time I'm there. :D

How close to Grand President is construction of holiday inn and the federal site?

 

I would be bummed if I stayed at Grand President and had to endure constant construction noise.

hmmn good point, I've made a reservation at the prez palace for a west facing top floor room..if it's noisy it will just be the one night only, glad I didn't pay up front now.
