Business Visa

If you are just coming in to see some clients/customers or meeting potential clients to do business from your own country then tourist visa is fine. I have been doing this for 10 years. If however you are exchanging money in Thailand for goods/services you will may need to look at a different type of visa.

I travelled last year for business(only 5 days) and did not realise that you might have to have a visa, phoned the Thai Consul up to be told I didn't have enough time to get one, but they told me just to say I was going on holiday, luckily my brother lives in Bangkok so I did have a contact if challenged but sailed through immigration without any trouble.

Do you need to get a business visa if you are going to do some business in-country or can you just get a tourist visa and use that?

Technically, yes. You are coming for business not tourism so of course you need that class of visa.

Does anyone do that for the situation you describe? Probably very few.

Many people live and work full time in Thailand on just a tourist visa, albeit illegally.

For your situation it isn't going to raise any flags or seem suspicious at all.
