Shadowman2013 Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Trip in 4 weeks . Staying in bangkok for 3 days before I go to Pattaya . I know mostly how to get to the city some say get off makkasan but others say phaya thai . Which is it
nagatoro Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Makkasan for the MRT blue line or phaya thai for the BTS green line. Assuming you want to end up around Asok BTS by Soi Cowboy? There's not much difference in it. Tbh I'd just get a grab or whatever from the airport its like 300/400 baht.
28templarknight Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Heard people waited long time for their Grab ride. If you are going to Asok BTS (Terminal 21) you can get off at Makkasan then walk a bit to Phetchaburi MRT then ride 1 stop to Sukhumvit MRT and take the Asok exit Or take the longer route to Phaya Thai, change to BTS Green Line and ride 6 stops to Asok BTS Or are you talking about the Asoke train station right near Makkasan airport rail link?
JVHyatt Posted April 24 Posted April 24 (edited) When I do the train, I always get off at Phaya Thai bc I typically stay at Hyatt Regency or on Soi 4 or 6 so the BTS switch suits me better. As others may have advised to get to Asok proper, you can do Makkasan but then you have to switch to the MRT but that takes credit cards at the turnstiles (whereas the BTS does not), so I always buy a prepaid BTS card from Klook which you can pick up at the Klook counter at Sboom, and then get the Airport Express token in the basement. eta: I would not do Grab from airport as last two trips I saw the wait there was incredible. Much easier to get a taxi just tell them to put on the meter, me I typically just agree to 400 baht as I really dont give a shit about an extra five to ten bucks if I am arriving late. You can go via MRT or BTS but BTS is probably going to have a station along Sukhumvit closer to a hotel. It's not which as in only one connects, they both connect at different places.

Note while the Airtrain might be OK for luggage the BTS sure isn't. Depending on the time of day. And the sidewalks are shit for towing a suitcase.
